Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4

六兆年と一夜物語

ah, Persona 4. Great game. SMT really pulled out the stops for this one...its more forgiving than P3 (tho that game also rox) and it's easier to battle...

Gameplay: 9/10 - Many irritations from Persona 3 are taken out, but one still remains. If MC dies, instant game over. No using ur teammates to Recarm him. The Social link system also saw a more practical approach, for unlike in P3, where if u max out a link with your girlfriend, you can date someone else, in this game...if you insist on being a player (which I do NOT reccomend) you have to be as careful in game as you would with two-timing in real life.

Storyline: 8/10 - great, emotional, expressive. Very interesting, and works well with the setting. It is bested by P3, however...because the overall plot is a bit weaker...The path to the final boss left me feeling like the plot device was a bit rushed there...

Soundtrack: 8/10 - also enjoyable. the music in this game doesn't have to "grow" on you like P3's did (although after a while, you end up liking it/hate it more). Excellent composition, when it comes down to matching the scene. Some tracks themselves aren't all that great on their own, but when coupled with the game, it's golden. Also, Voice acting was pretty much right on the dot for this game. I admit P3's Fuuka was atrocious, and I am glad that many of the problems seen there are not present here.

Visual Quality: 7/10 - The overall art style was appealing and nice on the eyes, but still...shadows remain shadows...and some as bizzare as ever. I enjoyed the shadows that took forms of giant robos. That was a creative idea. Some others were...disappointing...like the initial enemy MC (Seta Souji) and Yosuke face. The enviornments are created nicely, and they do fit the theme of a small, country town. Personas saw more changes as new ones appeared and old ones vanished. The main character cast also holds personas of Shinto Origin, which adds a bit more to the plot, theme, and fits better with the setting, as opposed to the Greek theme in P3 (which only fit lesser due to the fact that it was still set in Japan).

Overall Rating: 8.6/10

Great game overall. Some few quirks can get annoying, but on the whole it is still very enjoyable. I'd reccomend picking it up if you have the money. Probably still $40, this game is (IMO) worth it.

Preface: I dunno, I thought the social link were already important in themselves. In more end game content you could get 1,421,782 experience(8 levels with Beelzebub), but I digress.

===

Other than that, I basically agree with the above comment except I would rank soundtrack higher and story lower XD 28/30

Anyways I love a few things they added(which would of been VEEERRY helpful in 3).

- Guarding

- Ability to control your partners

- Your partners can save you from dying by taking the attack

but, yeah I kept hearing oh the story has better pacing than 3(from the nature of persona games I doubted that, but I didn't care I liked the social link aspects) but I felt it had worse, maybe because I spent half the game going. "Who's the criminal, it's that guy! wait no there's another!"

at some point it looks like they were just doing it to mock me =/. Also physical attacks finally made much more useful but still not as good as magic and not worth the HP sacrifice. The Almighty spells...Continue to be less than almighty unless the enemy has it.(Seriously what the hell >.>)

EDIT: Also just throwing this out there if my signature didn't make it obvious. Naoto = <3
