Dad
Rap doesn't deserve a bad name because of a few lacking figures from your perspective. You don't need instruments to make music, but you need talent. It takes a lot of work that these guys put in, and when their albums top charts, they get nothing but hate. You don't have to like it, but it's still a musical industry, and it does deserve to exist, just as Metal, Rock, Country, Death Core, and others do. There's no changing it. And it takes a lot more balls to admit you don't like it than it does to trash it. The African American community as a whole made it, and when it's tossed aside, it's just like placing the community in a corner. Let it go. Amaterasu
Meh. I think instruments > Lyrics. It is all opinion. Rap only uses synthesizers which I don't particularly like. Writing lyric is rather easy for me though. Any rapers like Brittany spears even mod the voices which is completely talentless. Personally, if a song can show as much emotion as vocals can, without vox. Then the song is 1000 times better than the song with vox. BTW: I don't particularly hate rap. I just don't like the raper lifestyle.

I have more feeling for instruments because a human voice is very distracting. I cannot do my homework with rap music because of that. But, music with a lot of instruments I can do homework with, despite the Vox. I really like songs like call of Ktulu, and the Hellion because of the mood they present with out the need for vox. Classical music didn't need Vox, and the vox I write are quite random. They just give flow, rhyme, and rhythm. Some people like vox because they find it insightful. I personally think that mortal humans are incapable of showing insight that appeals to me.

CinnamonStar
*cheers* \(O_0)/Agreed with Ken-chan.^^ I think rap got such a horrible reputation for being posers and talentless wannabe musicians because some bands/singers, mostly the popular ones, are like that. But they completely toss the rest aside who know what they're doing. Personally I disagree with the whole instrumentation vs vocals stuff. I see Rap kinda like poetry or instrumental arranges of poetry. Like the Rilke Project or Schiller. But then again I mostly know Rap artists who write lyrics with some sense. Also I think someone who makes freaking CELTIC RAP like Manau shows a lot more creativity and talent than Black Metal spin-off Nr 74928756. Mind you, I do get a lot of crap when I say that I listen to both Metal and some Rap.-.- People praise tolerance and openness but don't apply it. Amaterasu
To add to that. I mostly like old school rap. Like public enemy. They don't seem as bad to me as popular stuff. And I can't find rap that is unpopular, because I don't know enough about it.
Guest JoshIcy
Eh, I have my disdains with the genre. But it's all personal. So it's not bad to my ears, just... Yeah, content and stuff. Probably same reason I don't like the upper Metal genres. It does have to be said though, I do like some rap.

Eury
I like that one song Rapper's Delight, Eminem, Beastie Boys, and all those other old-school Rap artists. That's how all Rap should be. Not that crap like Kanye and 50-Cent.
CinnamonStar
^Agreed to the above. Many people just hear the popular stuff which is often horrible and dismiss the rest. Old Rap wasn't mostly about shooting people, drugs and the next whore they laid down.50 Cent is a disgrace, sorry but... I think he's really a poser.<.< And:"Yo Kanye, Im really happy for you and Im gonna let you finish. But 2Pac/Notorious B.I.G./Public Enemy/the Beastie Boys made better music than you.">.>

Dark
If anything, I hate country more than I hate rap. I don't know why people bash it. It's half-decent. :/
Guest Supreme Gamesmaster
The trouble is, effort is very rare, and even when it is, the voice is horribly dissonant and clashes with the synthesizers of evil. That said, J-rap tends to be listenable (obviously; Japan > everyone in entertainment), and Libera Me from Hell is still epic. And even American rappers can create excellent rhythmic and linguistic poems. Just take the music out of the background and you're fine.
Lord Metallium
Well the only thing i will say is yes they deserve to exist but many poeple out there need to open their eyes you see in experience i was humiliated by rappers when i was like 12 years old i was trying to make friends but their style is not acceptable and so we all have problems my friends listen is not that hip hop sucks one thing im not a hater but you got to see thing even more clearly and think in what is going on when you realize it let say you have a family member that joins that music but you understand that its not a good idea and then one day the very sad news he just got killed and that is what's happening. THIS IS BETTER CALLED AS THE GENDER WARS so i really hope that one daywe could not fight against other genders and that right now is happening in my country many people dying all because of a music gender so you see nowDark Phoenix now you should understand what iam saying. :(
CinnamonStar
^4 years ago I got humiliated by classmates who listen to stuff like Rammstein and Rage Against the Machine. Now everyone who listens to Rammstein/Rage is evil?>.> People must understand that there's music and lifestyle. It's just human if someone doesn't like a certain music genre and these guys who humiliated you are probably idiots. But yeah my eyes are open and I know enough people from every musical horizon, also exceptions:I had that dancing teacher who kinda became a rolemodel and completely changed my views on Rap and Hiphop. Some guy with children, totally against drugs, never beat anyone up and who really lives for his passion. I loved going to his courses. He didn't have a horrible clothing style either but was more like a dancing movies type of guy. Like Step Up and such. Not all rappers sing about drugs, whores and beating people up or wear their caps and throusers in a strange way.;) Needless to say I believe there are extremists (I consider them posers) who will beat people up for no reason. In every music genre there are people who take things too far and give all the others a bad name. But most of the time these people are simply idiots and not everyone who listens to Rap is a bully or killer.Example: my dancing teacher. IDK, do you live in a dangerous place where many people get killed like that maybe?0_o

CinnamonStar
Me?I'm female, and the thing with these guys happened 4 years ago.Had quite a bad connection with most people in my class and some, mostly guys, kept harrassing me. 3 of them were Rammstein fans, don't remember about the others. CinnamonStar
Yeah I understand that. These guys are idiots. But have you asked yourself if it's not because of their idiocy that they're doing such stuff? Not necessarily the music they listen to? Maybe if they listened to Pop they'd still be idiotic and aggressive? I do hope you'll meet the decent kind of people one day though.:/
Darkest Hour
Is 2pac still considered talented or was he the generic stereotypical bad rapper?
