YU-GI-OH! CARD MAKER GRAND PRIX!!

RULES:

-Unlimited Entries

-Make cards from one of the sets that stand in the appropriate section. You may pick more than one set if you want, and they will be judged as separate entries, effectively multiplying your chances of winning.

-You have to make a minimum of ten (10) cards from each set. However, you can make as many cards as you want. Making more cards increases your chances of winning (see "Rating").

-At least half of the cards you make must be Monster cards. Normal, Effect, Ritual, Fusion, it doesn't matter, but they have to be Monsters. And at least one-quarter must be Spell or Trap cards.

-Your grammar must be flawless. I'm not referring to the grammar in your posts (although I would appreciate that being decent as well - you all have the ability to use a spell-checker, if not the ability to spell correctly yourselves...), and while I will tolerate a few OCG errors here and there, the grammar on the cards themselves must be perfect.

-When you sign up for the contest or submit your entries, you must specify whether I am allowed to use the cards you submit in my fanfic (Chronicles of the Ascension, link in my signature). This will not affect your chances of winning at all (there will be special prizes for those whose cards I do use in my fanfic though - see "Prizes").

Your entries will not be considered valid unless and until they meet all the above requirements.

THEMES:

~~~IRRELEVANT~~~
===
RATING:
Rating will be a complicated procedure.
-Each individual card you make (I do not care if they are a hundred, I am a patient person who likes to judge and review other people's work =/) will be judged on a scale from 1 to 20 on the following categories:
1) How well the effect is described (OCG)
2) How good / fitting the picture looks (Artwork)
3) How balanced it is (Making it under-/overpowered will cost you ponts)
4) How original it is as an individual idea
5) How well it can be used together with other cards in its set, or individually (depends on its purpose)
Therefore, each card will receive a percentage as its final score.
-The rating of your set will be the average percentage of your cards (NOT the value of all cards added together. So, a person with 10 cards will have equal chances to receive a higher rating as a person will 100). Just in case you... don't know what I mean (I think that's impossible, but oh well), I will break it down: I will take the individual score of each of your cards and add it together in a sum, then divide it by the number of cards you made.
-After the rating is complete, I will add an extra point to your final rating for every 4 cards you've made beyond the obligatory 10. So, if you've made 100 cards, you'll receive an additional 90/4=22.5 points to your entry. Not a bad bonus.
-The person with the highest final rating will win the contest.
===
PRIZING:
-There is only one actual prize. The winner of this competition takes all, six (6) Positive Reputation points added to his count by yours truly.
BUT.
-Since I actually want to use these cards in my fanfic, and I encourage you to make original ones (not ones existing in Sets you've already made), I will probably use everyone's cards as long as they have allowed me to use them in my fanfic (hence the last rule).
If I decide to use your cards in my fanfic, you will receive a number of Reputation points according to how many of your cards I use. This is not part of the contest's prizing.
===
DEADLINE:
-Entry Submission Deadline: January 10th, 2008
-End Judging / Rewards Date: January 17th, 2008
Both dates may still be subject to change as seen fit.
===
NOTES / UPDATES:
-FIRE theme added (I had been pondering with the idea of adding one, and a request made up my mind)
-Just don't forget to post whether your entries are allowed to be used by me in Chronicles of the Ascension, although that can wait until you make them.
-As you have noticed, I may add new themes if I hear some idea I like. So if you want a particular theme but it isn't on the list, don't hesitate to post it, and I may approve of it and add it.
-Specific themes are discarded. Pick whatever theme you like, and make a set. Prizing rules still apply, and you can still enter with more than one sets.
-IMPORTANT: Entry Submission Deadline set at January 10th.
As for the four eligible contestants, I'd like to congratulate you on your work, and I will definately use all three of your sets in Chronicles of the Ascension. I also want to remind you that there is still plenty of time for reviewing / tweaking your entries, as well as submitting new ones to increase your chances of winning.
Fine. I had thought of adding one anyway.
How popular it stays, is up to you. I'll keep everything updated though.
Check for Notes/Updates in the main post.
Also, sonictheweasel, will you participate?
Count me in- this contest seems really interesting. And if you like any of the card I produce, I'm perfectly fine with you using them in a fanfic. I'll be trying for the Aqua theme though. Maybe a Deck with fan-made cards centered around the advantadges of A Legendary Ocean and Umi. Mermaid-based cards are okay for the Aqua theme, right?
Ah, yes, Mermaids are perfectly fine. Just a heads-up, if you make a full, usable deck, I might use it intact (without adding or removing cards from other people's sets or my own) which naturally will earn you more reputation points as gratitude for your work.
Also, a point I did not stress. The Attribute / Types I specified next to each set do not dictate that every monster of that set must be of those Attributes / Types, just that the main theme should contain them. You can easily make support cards that are of a completely different type.
EHA, your entries do not match one of the posted themes (and I don't think I will accept Neo Warriors as a new theme, since it's essentially a development of an existing theme). I may accept your cards as valid entries, depending on a number of factors, but I strongly suggest that you change them with a Set that matches one of the preset themes (or suggest a new valid theme). It is your choice, though.
Filipe, feel free to take your time. There will be a lot of time allowance until the contest ends.
You lost me there. Theme doesn't refer only to attribute and type, it refers to the general style of a set (for example, Jaden has an E-Hero deck, Mai a Harpie deck, Zane a Cyber Dragon deck, Hasslebury a Dinosaur deck etc). A theme refers to the inspiration, the idea behind your set. I'm not sure what exactly you intend to change though.
Though my chances, in my opinion, of winning seems low, I will enter. Nor do I mind my cards, if they are worthy enough, to be used. When I first came on to the YCM forum, I started on a set of cards known as the "Hellbound" series. It is almost similar to your Hellfire theme, except I added nearly every type of monsters. Will it be okay to continue to finish it with nearly all the Monster-Types? Or should I just keep it at Dragon, Fiend, and/or Pyro?
@Malik: Like I stated in the rules, I have no objections whatsoever with your cards spreading over a wider range of types / attributes than the ones defined. Those are merely... guidelines, to give you a general direction, an idea of what I'd like to see in a deck I want to use. As a rule of thumb, I'd prefer the core monsters to be of the specified types / attributes, and the support monsters of any other type, but feel free to experiment all you want with them - as long as the general idea of the theme is followed, I have no objections.
Also, thanks to all who have joined so far - just remember to actually make and submit your entries, don't just forget about the contest. ;>_>
Remember, everyone has a fair chance, no matter how many cards he makes, to win the prize, and even if he doesn't, he will still win Reputation points if I introduce his cards in my fanfic.
@Mr.Po: I'd prefer not as a main theme (support cards being of that type are, of course, alright), but if you feel up to making a very good Spellcaster / Warrior themed set, I may accept it as a valid entry. It's just that if I put that up, the contest will be flooded with such entries, so...
@oplo: Just use Saurian theme, it's very similar. Nothing restrains you from adding Pyro-type monsters there, what I give is just the main idea.
@Malik: I haven't decided yet. From the looks of it, it's going to be sometime January - we have a lot of entries. And yes, you can. In fact, it's better if you do - I might be able to give you some hints on how to improve them.
Also, a general reminder: everyone must specify whether I can use his entries in my fanfic or not, otherwise they will not be considered valid.
Ok then.
The theme of my set is to have a evil theme. It is made of cards that are powerful but yet costly to use.
