Custom Sprite Tutorial

This isn't really a tut.

It is just stating hat someone should know with common sense.

 

I mean outlining Duh

Making sprite from outline Obviously

Color.OMGGNOWAI

Shade. Didn't even explain how to shade.

 

This "Tut" is a Vague description of what one should alredy know.

 

 

This is the oppisite of Sex.

Yes I said sex not Smex.

I agree with Sk8tr. This is just a broad description of the steps. I could probably add description of steps within the steps you gave, and that would still be shallow and uninformative of a tut. It does very little in the way of teaching.

 

There is another major point. What is this "Blur" and "Dodge" tool you speak of. When spriting, these things should NEVER be used on a sprite. Never use things like textures, and other tools either. These things go into the sprite and alter things on the pixel scale. This makes it so it has far too many colors for a normal palette, which is suppose to be limited. Usually a high palette sprite might only have at most 32-bit, which 32 is a lot. Using those tools create too many, makes the sprite unfriendly and uneditable, and in general make it actually look low quality and fuzzy and make it look out of place.

 

Also you forgot a very important thing to mention. Perhaps if this was meant only for seasoned spriters I could understand its exclusion (but judging by the simplicity of this 'tut' it isn't meant for them). However I'm guessing this is meant for beginners or just anyone. #1 rule of all spriting, always, is you must save as .png! People don't know they need to do this, and it has to be said.

Spriting is MUCH different than casual GFX.

 

In fact, in most cases it's more of a physical art form rather than a media application. Due to how it's made and presented. You're creating each part pixel by pixel. Cell by cell. Whereas, Graphic Arts are done more about it all at once, with rare subtle nuances.

 

Hows about you get out of your closet and learn some common sense? This "tutorial" if you can call it that is very very bad. And goes against nearly every basic fundamental of spriting.
