Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

Recommended Posts

That's right~ I started the thread about the pyscho horror anime that we all love ;D

It's seems to be the highlight of anime talk between the people I know in real life, so I decided to let that discussion be a part of the YCM life.

If you don't know what Higurashi is, please look it up and explain your thoughts on the images and description it gives. Sounds pleasent, doesn't it?

And although it's not as gore as Elfen Lied, it is much more creepy.

Let's discuss the wonders of Higurashi~

I decided to look it up~

I watched the first episode, and really, I didn't think it was that bad, gore-wise, anyway. The story really kept my interest, and the quality of the animation was great. But just for kicks, I decided to Google image it, see how bad the gore gets, out of curiosity.

Needless to say, it wasn't one of my better ideas. xD

I'll be sure to keep watching it, though. I've become hooked on the series already.

KI KI KI KI K- Wrong one.

And I personally like Umineko better than Higurashi. :/

I liked Umineko better until halfway through the second arc. Then... o__O

I haven't seen Elfen Lied, but I will say this: I think people tend to overstate the amount of gore in Higurashi. The show is far more based on suspense than anything else. Murder only occurs once every four episodes at most, and when it does, it tends to be seen through a Gory Discretion Shot - we just see the shadows on the wall, or a shot of the nearby floor that suddenly has a red splatter on it. The biggest exception, obviously, is Meakashi-hen - but then after that, murder becomes absurdly rare, happening maybe three more times throughout all of Kai. So, without having seen Elfen Lied, I will guess that Elfen Lied is more gory and Higurashi is more creepy.

Elfen Lied is gorey beyond believe(before the actual core story kicks in.) After that(especially in the manga) the gore and nudity becomes less often however the beginning of the series is very bloody.(the entire episode 1, festival scenes, flashbacks, train scene, the beach, etc..)

Of course no matter how much gore an anime/manga has, it will never surpass Gantz because the creator just loves drawing the characters dying in the worst possible way in every chapter >.>.

@Notorious, oh it is. No doubt about that. If you love horror/suspense. You'll love it.

Also based from alot of manga/animes I'm reading, I'm waiting for that day until "Hopelessness" becomes a genre.

Just the tense that this anime has makes me not wanting to watch it for several reasons.

Watch it at night, with the lights turned off. I couldn't sleep for 1 week.

I know. Especially at Halloween. It just makes it scarier due to the fact that its horror intensfies on that day for some reason.

Exactly what I did, and all that really happened was that I couldn't eat regularly for four days. Whenever I would eat, even just plain rice, it would all give me a stomach ache. Prolly cause I'm so sickened from everything, rather then scared.

Same thing with School Days.
