Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii. So far, the 3 best consoles made thus far, what with all the feature, downloadable content, and video games. Wii games are kinda flushing right now, 360 is going in circles in my opinion, and PS3 is turning itself around (though it is kinda late in the game). All systems have great games right now, awesome new ones are being released and newer ones being made. DLC's are rocking the consoles left and right. All I have left to say is that I have to agree with Adam Sessler of G4TV's X-Play: WE DON'T NEED NEW CONSOLES YET!! Anyone else agree?

  • 3 weeks later...

there has been a war in our school about the next gen consoles of ps3 and xbox 360 now i need your vote to see which is officially better

ps: there is no poll so you need to reply to the post sorry for the inconvenience

lolwhat? There's no next gen consoles yet.

Anyway, I've played both and it depends on your opinion.

If you like playing games, get a Xbox 360.

If you like watching movies, get either one.

If you like playing some relaxed games, get a Wii.

If you like a giant media station, get a PS3.

Wii is better than both systems combined. Yes I am a fanboy, but no I do not like some of the titles there are for Wii. However, Graphics are only important if they do not interfere with my gaming experience. For all I care, Wii has good enough graphics and they focus more on the playability and control ok?

I am just gonna make a list about the 3 pros and cons. In my opinions feel free to voice your opinion(read: complaints) about it.

((Also I'm tired and I'm just blabbing on so my thoughts are everywhere, if I get the time I will edit my post and make it look...Well presentable[and better written]))

Hardware: Exterior

Xbox 360: Comes in either a pure white or pure black(excluding the special skins on certain releases like the Modern Warfare skin. Pretty big in size on par with the PS3's size. Aside from only pure black/white you have the choice of customizing it with limited face plates, some were nice some were...Didn't sell very well so a bit harder to find and not many look good. However thanks to the ability to take off the actual faceplates, you can find alot of great custom colors and skinning on ebay and similar). +

Playstation 3: Comes in pure black in fat or slim, customary to Playstation releases. It looks very nice, but possibly just being me a person that travels often it is very easy to scratch, and it doesn't have as much customization color/skin wise as the 360 has. Also it is famous for being not the biggest but rather the most annoying sheet to carry in the world. However it looks pretty, so can't complain. /

Wii: Comes in white...Uhh as for skinning just like the ps3, you are left with limited options. Of course people have done it, it's plates are also more annoying to take off and makes the most hilariously terrifying noise in the world when you do. However I do love the wii for this(I suppose since it's a party console) it is the easiest thing I ever had to carry in my life and since it's small you probably guessed it's easy to carry. ++

Hardware: actual important stuff

Xbox 360: Has the feature of exchangeable hard-drives, memory sticks, and supports usb. It also has alot of airholes to keep it from overheating. People have mentioned countless times RROD(red ring of death). If you don't know it, it is how the xbox 360 tells you that the 360 is having hardware problems. Be it overheating, corruption, broken pieces, or simply your cable is not connected properly or all the way. Of course everyone made a big deal about this but as for me...I still have my launch date 360 and never had a RROD(it is not working however, my video card melted so I can agree it does have overheating, however I was playing for 20+ hours for multiple days in a room filled with other xbox 360's PS3's computers etc..)

and strangely my PS3 has had the YLO H/D(yellow light of hell/Death) twice. So to not sound like a pretentious douche(too late =V) I kept looking up both and yes I did find more complaints about RROD but the PS3 YLOH went up by huge amounts(2008/2009) as soon as it started becoming the popular console. Hmm? Maybe you think ...Nah it couldn't be, how could it. [yes it is.]

However both the PS3 and 360 has equal warranty, with 360 being kind enough to throw in free xboxlive to compensate for 360 failure and free arcade games, but that's simply petty. "I'm sorry."

Also a pet peeve that some online users might find for the 360 is that it does come with wireless support, you have to buy a special adapter which is not pretty cheap AFAIremember.

One last thing before I go to PS3, since my mind seems to be all over the place. The 360 has one nuisance(only really visible with older models I believe, aka mine) The disk tray loves to make alot of noise. /

PS3: -^ Read above. As for the hard-drive, it is much more annoying to change and upgrade compared the 360 and require alot more work. However you have the freedom to choose a wide variety of hard-drives from not only 1st party developers. Just need a little computer knowledge or google. /

Wii: You know, I was always curious about the wii in this regard. Maybe because it's simple, but I have never seen an error for the wii(that is not related to hacking or trying to play illegal games). Or maybe I'm just not playing it enough.(I also dropped it like 4 times lol).

but simplicity has a price, WHERE THE HELL IS THE ETHERNET CABLE! NOOT COOL WII! NOT COOL! (opposite of 360 problem...Ethernet user) /+

Interface

Xbox 360: When the Xbox Live Experience came out(or whatever) everyone was confused, and didn't know what to do, what's going on!? This went on for about...1 hours. As for new comers, it took them probably about 10 minutes. It's easy to understand, nice looking, supports themes, and nice. May have alot of directories, but you become easily accustomed. +

Ps3: Equally as simple, there's no complaint. If you played any PS3, PSP, most sony products now, etc.. they have the same interface. Short section, but nothing to complain. Maybe too sensitive in scrolling through interface.

Wii: Bland and simple, but too simple...I feel soul-less looking at the menu. Customizable themes only if it's hacked(AFAIK)

Graphics

Graphics? Are we seriously debating this.

1080p3.jpg.jpg

Get out if you really care about the difference lol, but yeah the PS3 has much nice graphics. Of course, Blu-Ray > HD(picture quality, that's all). However is it really THAT much of a difference. /(for argument sakes. PS3 +, 360 /)

Wii: Sorry...Sorry wii. It's not you, it's me. --

Disks

Blu-ray vs HD. (Warning: Blu-ray hate here)

Blu-ray is known to give one of the best qualities in mainstream for a very nice size exchange. Blu-ray disks can also hold much more than there HD counter part. However they have a huge flaw, which almost any PS3 users have seen. Loading, because Blu-ray has great size management but poor management on the disk it would usually the more hectic scenes would show up crap or choppy (anyone who has seen a Blu-ray movie can attest to this happening occasionally.) So of course to avoid this they make you have to pre-install some/most/all of it on the actual PS3 before playing or in the middle of playing.

One prime example, Metal Gear Solid 4. In between Act 1 and Act 2 when it's loading for about an hour Otacon makes a joke.

"Ok Snake time to change the dis- Oh! That's right, where in the age of Blu-ray we don't have to change disks anymore haha!"

Am I the only who laughed my ass off for the wrong reason?

Loading - 1 hour

Changing disks - 18.41 seconds if you're casual and taking your time. I want to go back to the days of multiple disks.

===

So me? Picture quality and space. Blue-ray. Practicalities and awesomeness, HD.

Controllers

I'm lazy, I flat out simply prefer 360 controller. It feels better to me, and the R2 and L2 on the PS3 controllers make me feel weird, is it me?

Wii controllers, I have been playing silent hill for the wii and realized the down side of panicking. (also because of the controllers, I notice games feel force to make some gimmick out of it so meh, however it is pretty cool in a sense; we'll wait till 1x1 mapping comes)

Online

Xbox 360..What I have to go into detail? Dammit...

Xbox 360: Very stable, much more capable dedicated servers, can hold much more people, more features. Downside you have to pay 50$. Upside, 50$ a year.(4.00$ a month basically)

PS3: not as stable as 360, half-dedicated servers. I say half since most games rely on your connection, it's free!...Yep...

Wii: Very stable, less features than 360, but this might be the lack of online players, evident in SSBB(I've experienced lag). Not much to say, I only used this online like 4 times.

Game Library

Every system has a great game library! :D...What, what do you mean show me? Too lazy. Look it up yourself. Also because I know people are curious and have been complaining about it.

The wii has 47 enjoyable exclusives that I can count.

Too lazy to post.

The winner? Obviously. Playstation 2!

Seriously thought, it's all preference.

(and yes I got lazy about half-way and realized I have homework. Also yes I missed out on alot of stuff but meh)

On one more note since people love to bring this up.

Who frankly cares the Ps3 can play blu-ray movies and you can use the internet? If you go online on a PS3 that means you have an internet connection, if you have an internet connection, you have a computer with internet! Most people use there internet on PC/Mac over there PS3/Xbox 360 counter parts. As for blu-ray movies, well it's nice if you don't have a DVD player but if you do. Don't be gloating about it, but it is a nice addition. Just pissed I don't/can't afford blu-ray movies and I download them all blu-ray/HD quality on my computer anyways. :P

WRONG!!!

Wii has just as many good games as the PS3 and 360. And guess what' date=' most of those are exclusive. So that gives the Wii a HUGE selling point.

Although the Wii has a few exclusive franchises, it's graphics suck, and the only unique game worth playing on it that you won't get sick of after awhile is SSBB. And that's going to die out as soon as the various customizations you can haxx on it run out, and people get bored with it.

I'll give to Nintendo that they have the DS, and that somewhat competes with a PSP, but just like the PS3, the PSP can do more...

STFU. As soon as you said "graphics" I wanted to hit you though the internet. GRAPHICS MEAN NOTHING!!! People need to learn this fact. They are eye candy only. Are the Wii's graphics as good as the 360 or PS3's, no, but are they bad, by no means. They are PS2 level, and last I checked that system had good graphic.

Also learn to look things up. The Wii has a large libary of good games. And unlike the PS3, most of them are only on the Wii. And unlike the 360 most of them aren't shooters.

The simple fact is their is none are best. The Wii has great exclusives but doesn't have the multiplatform games. The 360 has great online, but it's games are limited. The PS3 has a much shorter list of good exclusives, but the ones it has are varied and it also has the multiplatform games.

The PSP is a not good in terms of it being a gaming system. Yea as a multi media system it is good, but if I want something that can play games, music and shows I'll use my iPod.

The DS has a huge number of great titles that cover many different styles of gaming

Another of my many arguments

Their is no "best." It's all a matter of what kind of games you like.

Wii: Not counting all the half ass party games just a general system. It has a good verity of good titles most of which cover many different genres. If I’d pin one genre to it I'd say it's the more of an action adventure system, but again it's hard to say since the good games do cover many bases, I'd even say of the 3 it's the hardest to pick the genre that stands out best. Another plus is most of it's good games (of which it does have many) are exclusive giving it a huge selling point.

360: It's an online system. Really, take away Live and it's a shadow of it's current self. That being said most of the good exclusives are FPSs or some kind of shooter and so make for great online games. One of it's major problems is the 50% failure rate. Even with newer models fixing the major problems, they still fail.

PS3: Like the Wii it's more a general system. It has a wide verity of games, but I'd say the RPGs are still the PS's main focus. It's one problem is that a lot of it's good titles are also on the 360 so it's main selling point is the exclusives (of which it has less stand outs then the 360, however it has several good ones on the horizon).

Since I can get into them

DS: Like the Wii has many good games that cover many different genres.

PSP: It's a multi medi system. As far as games go, it has very few good, stand out ones. It makes up for this with by being able to watch movies and play music.

Woah did a Mod just break a rule???

No. Saying that graphics are the facotor breaking the Wii is simply one of the stupidest things for any one to say because not only is it groundless, it shows how little they know about gaming.

PS3 is the best free online any time and games have good grapics and alot of them have good grapics.

There's only 3 topics about this? Really?

[spoiler=Since I'm a PS3 owner]

I personally think GT5/PS3 (Gran Turismo 5) will sell more than Halo Reach/Xbox. Simply put, this is THE FIRST GT game on the PS3. Halo has already released 3 games on the Xbox, so the majority of the fanbase will already have a Xbox. No doubt some people will buy the Xbox just for Reach.

GT5 is the first GT game on the PS3. And, still, some GT fans are waiting for it.

Anyway, discuss INTELLIGENTLY about your preferred console.

Fanboy is more of a derogative term than it is a widely-accepted term for one who supports a console. Think of a fanboy as a [insert religion here] extremist, and that would be a nice parallel. Fanboy isn't something you'd want to be, despite common belief.

Now that I got a tad bit of logic into this thread, people say I am a Nintendo "fanboy". Not really. I just avidly support Nintendo and think they are cool beens. And I actually considered getting a PS3, but I decided against it and went with the white thing. No, not that. The Wii.

I always like the new things Nintendo brings to the table, to be quite honest. With the DS, they brought a level of touch screen that is still unsurpassed. Seriously, I have a touch screen iPod and a touch screen phone, so I can safely say that the DS probably has the best touch screen capabilities at the moment. Because when I use my stylus to hit something, it -gasp- actually works. Unlike my iTouch, where I hit one app and it brings me to another. No, not the YouTube app. I wanted to go to Tap Tap. <_<

And although Nintendo didn't have the most creative ideas (like Italian plumber and generic save-the-princess-wield-a-sword), they always found a way to make it appealing to the player. When I am actively playing a Mario game, I never once think, "Hey, this is bullshit. How the hell is a plumber doing all this stuff?" I focus on the game, and the illogical thoughts tend to leave my mind.

While Nintendo may not be in the business for realism, it's quite obvious that they have a strong fanbase behind them. And hell, 99% of my favorite video game series are in Nintendo (counting cross-console games), with the only exception being GTA. Even though GTA may be on the Wii, you can be sure as hell I won't buy it.

The XBOX360 and PS3 have their merits, but I wanted something new, and I got it from Nintendo. A common misconception is that the Wii is a "kid console". If you think that, gtfo out. Every Nintendo-made game for the Wii is at least decent, so ignore all those Baby Party Timez or some other bullshit. That was put on the Wii for the sheer fact of munzies.

Exactly, but you can't say Move and Natal are bullshit either, since Move was in development before the WiiMote and Natal was refused by both Sony and Nintendo, because they think it won't work (which it won't, since you need a HUGE living room and it's mostly casual games).

And:

3DS.

That is all.

I didn't say they were bullshit. Move was in developement, yet those are the key words. Nintendo was the first to realease sensored (not censored, xD) games. I far from consider them the father of sensory gaming, but I just have to point out that Nintendo came out with the Wii first, not developed it first. I can "develop" an idea for an air-powered car, but unless I patent it, the first person to make it has me checkmated.

And yes, 3DS. I'm still a tad bit skeptical, but I'm sure videos will comfort me and remove any ounce of skepticism I may have. It's Nintendo, yet I'm worrying this might be a gimmick-flop-thing.

PS3 is clearly the superior of teh 3 next gen consoles.

It doesn't overheat and break. *Cough* 360 *cough*

It's Blu Ray.

You don't have to pay to stay connected. *cough* 360 *cough*

And Sony actually cares about what it makes you. *cough* Microsoft *cough*

The Wii usually doesn't overheat nor break.

The Wii doesn't have Blu Ray' date='[/size'] but it has an internet browser (Opera).

The Wii's WiFi is free for all games, but priced content is available.

Nintendo actually cares about their customers.

Now the next time you go claiming the PS3 is the best of the three consoles, make sure to bash on the other two.

So far, the only person I know who actually plays the Wii is Stubby (VK).

The Wii is kinda good, but it gets boring.
