Nirvana and Foo Fighters

Instead of clogging up the forum, I decided to make this a two band discussion. I'm sure we had a discussion of these bands before.

Both of these bands are really good. I recently got into them. It was sad to hear that the lead singer for Nirvana killed himself (what was his name?). My dad said he thinks he have a Nirvana album I can rip. Both bands are really good.

Do anyone like one or both of these bands? What's your favorite songs? I'm hooked on "The Pretender" (Foo Fighters) and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana).

Here's your guide to Nirvana:

It's great that you just got into these bands. I usually tell Nirvana newbies to pick up the "Nirvana" 2001 compilation to see what style they like.

The first album you should pick up from Nirvana should be "Nevermind". It is their most accessible album, and every song in that record is perfect. Then you should take a look at their humble beginnings with "Bleach", which contains the "punk/grunge" sound SubPop was pushing for (their record label). Finally, pick up their last and best album "In Utero". Not only is that album one of the greatest albums of all time, it also contains some of the best song writing Kurt Cobain (singer/guitarist) has ever recorded. Be warned though, it's a pretty noisy and uncompromising record.

after those albums, move on to B-Sides (which most of them can be found on "Incesticide") and then some concerts (MTV Umplugged, From Muddy Banks of the Wishkah).

Songs that are better than "Teen Spirit":

Everything on "In Utero".

Sappy

I Hate Myself and I Want To Die

Drain You

Terretorial Pissings

Lounge Act

Polly

Aneurysm

Scoff

School

Negative Creep

Love Buzz (Shocking Blue Cover)

...There's alot more.

Look them up!

Wait on till the Foo Fighters realese their Greatest Hits albums to get some of their material. Their first and second album are classics. Everything else after that is "meh". Their best songs (to me) are:

Alone+Easy Target

I'll Stick Around

This Is a Call

Everlong

Hey, Johnny Park!

Hoped I helped!

I agree that "smells like teen spirit" although great, is alittle overplayed and such. My favorite nirvana song is "Drain you", or "Lithium". "In utero" is a great album, so is "Bleach" , obviously "Nevermind" and "incesticide". The Unplugged session is fantastic if you can find a good copy. As for Foo fighters, Dave Grohl is a god.
