I started to listen to Japanese rock and Japanese pop a month ago and got addicted into it. They're pretty good overall, I'd say about the same level as American music (just my opinion). Their music is kind of different from American music but they're still great to me.

^Well Tokio Hotel are a German band with their own music style.

Not really J-Rock though.

And of course.^^

I think J-Pop is way better than "Western" Pop. J-Rock sometimes, as for Metal though I think they still have to catch up... (minus the big legends like X-Japan, Mucc or Onmyo-za)

Faves:

Utada <3

Ayu <3

Every Little Thing

Yuki Kajiura <3

FictionJunction

Keiko <3

Asobi Seksu

Nami Amuro <3

Well anyone got any favorite songs or favorite bands by any Japanese bands???????????

I don't know much about the other styles like Visual Kei or J-Goth but I think I've heard of J-trance before and I think I heard some kind of J-trance music before. I just mainly listen to J-rock and J-pop.

Songs:

Utada - Kremlin Dusk

Ayu - A Song for XX / Teddybear :3

Every Little Thing: Fragile / Time Goes By

Yuki Kajiura: Vanity, Break the Sword of Justice, Hear our Prayer, so much stuff <3

FictionJunction - Parallel Hearts

Keiko - Synchronicity and all her live performances (she's so underrated, everyone thinks she's the pretty one behind Wakana but haven't heard her outside of back-up singing)

Aya Hirano - Super Driver / Speed Star

Asobi Seksu - I'm happy but you don't like me

Nami Amuro - Four Seasons, Full Moon

I only like Kopperia no Hitsugi by Ali Project though. Sometimes Seisohjo Ryoiki but it gets annoying.

Overall' date=' the Japanese music industry, despite its flair for over-the-top hightech effects, sucks.

:o Really?

There's always bound to be people who don't like something but I do agree with it sometimes because when I listen to some J-rock or J-pop song that I've never heard before they do try to incorporate all or some of these musical effects to their song which makes it sound funky and bad sometimes. It sometimes screws up of how the song could've played like before they incorporated those into the song itself.

Oh sure. From the start, the corporations took over and made Jrock into something resembling today's Western music scene (at least the mainstream one) - a bunch of cookie-cutter prettygals (or boytoys) warblin' some trite songs on equally trite issues. Only difference is that, by and large, it has been like that all these funking years.

For some reason I just don't like Japanese music. Just not really my thing.

You listening to the wrong bands.

Try this....

Wait... they have heavy metal bands in Japan other than visual kei?

Well - 1) I've heard more brutal-sounding black metal (me or my predispostion to Norwegians, for better or Norse); and 2) they do a poor imitation of Western black metal.

Oh young padawan.

Metal is universal.

Calling metal 'western' is just silly. Even if we are better at playing it.

I'm thinking it might just be you "predispostion to Norwegians". ;)
