Skippy Canoe
So... I had another idea. I am not stopping Andrea's Sinful Art, however. This idea is not based off of anything. Some of the characters are based off family members, especially Alexis. Alexis is my niece's middle name, and I will not reveal her real name.
Vibe]
Prologue] Vibe "Come on Alexis, we have to go!" shouted Angela Stark at her two-year-old daughter. She was wailing and crying for no apparent reason. Finally, Angela scooped up Alexis and walked out of the door of her lonely apartment. Angela was a single twenty-six-year-old mother. Alexis' father had walked out on Angela years before. She had blue eyes, and long, straight, dark hair. Angela looked a lot like her, with green eyes, a round face, long dark hair, and the cutest smile. Alexis had been acting strange lately. She had been seeing things Angela hadn't. She took it for having a growing imagination, but it seemed to be more than that. Angela had a long and unpredictable history with her parents. They were currently speaking with each other. Angela relied on them, her siblings, and her cousins to watch the baby when she worked. ... "Alexis, what's wrong?" asked Angela of her child, whom was crying in the corner. "The big bad wolf's gonna get me!" she cried. She wasn't easy to understand, but Angela could. The corner in which Alexis was looking at was completely empty. "No he isn't. Come on! I need to go to work!" yelled Angela. Alexis continued crying. Once again, Angela simply picked Alexis up and began walking towards her apartment door. She stopped when she felt something wet. "Did you go-" Angela started, then stopped. Her fingers were covered with blood. There, on Alexis' arm, was a claw mark.
Chapter 1] "Alexis, what happened?" asked Angela frantically. "He scratched me!" cried Alexis in return, yet again in her barely audible baby voice. "I-I have to go. I'll get some Band-Aids," said Angela. It was normally very dangerous for a child this young to lose blood, but Alexis' wound didn't even seem to have broken skin. It had already stopped bleeding. Angela bandaged Alexis' wound and rushed out of her apartment. ... Angela walked with Alexis up the driveway to her mother's home. She was leaving Alexis with her twenty-three-year-old sister, Claire, whom still lived at home. "We're at Grandma's house, Alexis!" Angela said sweetly. Alexis giggled and knocked on the door. Soon, Claire answered the door and brought Alexis in. Angela, in turn, returned to her car and drove to work. ... The day had gone by normally, and Alexis was just put to bed. Claire then lounged in the living room and watched television. "Breaking news. Benny the Wolf from the Detroit Zoo dies. The cause is still unknown-" Claire turned the television off, for she knew about Alexis' claw mark. Suddenly, the screen of the television set shattered, and screaming could be heard from her bedroom where Alexis was sleeping. Claire darted upstairs to where her bedroom was, and flung open the door. Alexis was wailing in fear, tears streaming from her eyes, which were wide open. Claire picked up Alexis lovingly and held her close. No wounds were found on Alexis, yet she cried as if she were in terrible pain. "Alexis, what's wrong?" asked Claire in her baby voice. "B-B-B-Big bad wolf broke the light!" cried Alexis. Claire staired at the standing lamp in the corner of her bedroom, which was ripped in half. She gasped, and the windows in her room suddenly shattered. Alexis screamed. Claire put her free hand over Alexis' head and neck, and scurried out of her bedroom. While she shuffled through the upstairs hallway, clinks and cracks and thuds could be heard throughout the house. Something strange was happening for sure. It seemed as if the whole home was being turned on its side. "We have to get out of here!" cried Claire to herself. Luckily, her parents were out, one of her brothers was sleeping over at a cousin's house, and her other brother was at a concert. Claire stepped through the large broken window of the front door carefully, and moved to the end of the driveway. Shockingly, when she looked at her home, it was silent. It was dissheveled, but now completely silent and inanimate. She exhaled as Angela's car pulled into the driveway to pick up Alexis. Angela hurried out of her car and slammed the door. "What's she doing up and outside?" asked Angela suspiciously. "Something was happening in there!" Claire cried dramatically. Alexis continued crying loudly. Her cheek had been cut by glass, and was dripping with blood. Angela took hold of Alexis. "We have to take her to the hospital," said Angela.
Chapter 2] "Well, Alexis will be fine, Ms. Stark. The cut on her cheek will need some time to heal, but the claw mark on her arm is a headscratcher," said Dr. Johnathan Kovski. "What do you mean?" asked Angela, confused. "Well, the claw mark doesn't actually break skin. There's this thing called psychosomatic bruising. Alexis' blood vessels in her arm engorged themselves, and she bled through her skin. Since this was controlled by her mind, and you said she was afraid of a big bad wolf, I think you can put two and two together. This is still highly illogical to me, but explains her symptoms." "What about the house?" asked Claire. "Why was it shaking, and why was my lamp broke?" "You see, I have no idea. There's no reason that your home would suffer such damage for no apparent reason. Perhaps you should hire an inspector?" "Will do," said Angela. "So can Alexis come home now?" "Yes, Angela. I just need your insurance information to pay for this visit." ... Angela and Claire pulled out of the hospital parking lot anxiously with Alexis in her carseat in the back seat. "What happened, Claire?" asked Angela, almost accusingly. "I don't know. The TV screen shattered, and then Alexis started screaming. I went into her room, and she said the big bad wolf broke the lamp in my room. It was torn in two. Oh, and on the news it said that Benny the wolf from the Detroit Zoo died. There may be a relation, but then the windows in my room shattered and everything started shaking! Then more glass breaking, and wood cracking, and, oh, it was bad! I held Alexis close and covered up her head, and got out through the broken window of the front door," explained Claire quickly and choppily. "How could that have happened? It's not like Michigan would have any full-on earthquakes." "Maybe the foundation was sinking?" "No, we don't live over any sewers." "Maybe-nevermind. Bottom line, the house isn't safe. You're staying with me tonight, and you have to make sure Mom, Dad, Evan, and Robert stay away." "I'll call them when we get there," Claire assured. The car was now stopped at a stoplight, about to head into another busy street in a three-way intersection. Angela let up on the gas as she approached. Suddenly, the car jerked up without Angela doing anything. Alexis started crying loudly from the back seat. "What's happening?" asked Claire, frightened. "I-I don't know!" squeaked Angela in reply. The car jerked up again, and was part of the way into the busy street, bustling with fast-moving traffic. Alexis wailed from the back seat. Angela tried moving back, as the car behind her didn't move up, but both pedals were jammed. She tried to move again, and the car jerked forward. "Stop!" screamed Claire. Angela looked around frantically. The car jerked up twice, and was now most of the way into the street! "STOP! STOP!" screamed Claire, crying now. Angela shakily looked out of her driver's seat window. A semi truck was coming quickly towards hers, and Alexis' side of the car! "STOP! STOP! STOP!" Angela screamed, as if commanding the car. The Sebring jerked forward again, and the semi failed to stop. HONK! HONK!
Chapter 3] Hers and Alexis' lives flashed before Angela's eyes. While the semi was still speeding towards them, she flung open her car door, and Claire quickly did the same. Claire ran to the back seat door on her side to get Alexis, but the door was locked. Angela, stupidly, was standing still in the semi's path. "IT'S LOCKED!" screamed Claire. Alexis wailed with terror in her carseat. Angela reached in her pocket quickly, but then looked for the semi truck was extremely close. It suddenly swerved. Claire continued trying to open it shakily, tears running down her cold face in the night. The enormous truck slowly turned, but it was no use. Angela ran to the other door and tried to open it. Then, the moment they dreaded came. The semi collided with the front of the small Sebring, smashed it, and tore part of it completely off! The Sebring spun and rolled onto it's top. Realizing that Alexis' part was still preserved at the moment, Angela darted to the now on fire car. She broke the glass with a firm fist quickly, and flung open the door. Alexis sat in her carseat upside-down. Angela quickly stepped in and unbuckled her, careful to make sure she didn't fall. After scooping Alexis up, Angela ran with Claire down the street they had came from. Shortly after, a ground-shaking explosion occured and enveloped the intersection. Luckily, the two had gone far enough with Alexis that the explosion didn't affect them, besides Claire falling head over heels when the ground shook. "Alexis, are you okay?" asked Claire quickly. "Okay," said Alexis, almost cheerfully. Angela, Claire, and Alexis then took the toddler back to the hospital. ... "Alexis surprisingly escaped from this with only a bruise and a scrape on her shoulder!" exclaimed Dr. Kovski. He then took her blood pressure delicately. "That's a miracle. Thanks so much!" thanked Angela. "Now how do we get home?" ... Claire called her and Angela's mother, Anne. After around twenty minutes, she arrived at the Mount Clemens General Hospital. "So the car just started moving by itself?" asked Anne, bewildered. "You know what you need to do? You need to call the Sebring people and say 'My car almost cost me the life of my sister and my child," or something. Sue them!" Angela nodded slightly. "Grandma? Grandma's house?" asked Alexis cutely. Anne smiled and took her from Angela, and hugged Alexis. Alexis didn't seem to be tired, even though she hadn't gotten but a half hour of sleep during the whole night. It was now past two in the morning. "Will Robert be able to watch her tomorrow? I need to get a rental for work," proposed Angela. "I'm sure he will. He's so attached to that baby," replied Anne. "Wait! You haven't been in the house tonight, have you?" suddenly asked Claire loudly. "No, Dad and I have been out all night. He's in the car," replied Anne. "It isn't safe there. You guys have to come to my apartment or stay at a hotel," Claire said. "What do you mean?" asked Anne suspiciously. "Weird things happened tonight. That's why we were out with the baby in the first place!" cried Angela. "Whatever. What am I supposed to wear then?" asked Anne. Claire and Angela scowled. ... "Hah. Yeah. Bye!" yelled Evan, the sixteen-year-old son of the Stark family out the front door of their home. He had just returned from a concert. "Mom, Dad? I'm home!"
Chapter 4] Evan entered the dark home, and quickly noticed the damage. "Mom, what happened in here?" he yelled. Instinctively, he grabbed his cell phone from his pocket and called Claire, whom was in his "Fav 5." Evan waited for an answer. "Hello?" greeted Claire. "Hi Claire. Have you been home lately...?" asked Evan slowly. "You're home? Listen, you have to get out right now. Go to, uh, a friend's house and sleep over or something. Just stay away from the house!" "What do you mean?" "Something, or someone, is in there. Get out, NOW!" "You're scaring me. Is this a joke?" "No, get out!" "This isn't funny!" "I'm serious. We're at Angela's apartment right now. You can walk from there." "I'm not going in the woods at night!" "Go, please!" Claire begged. Then, Anne grabbed Claire's phone. "Listen, Evan, you have to get out!" she warned. "Mom's in on it-" Evan started. Then, he heard a crackling from the ceiling above him. Evan stared up to his zenith. Cracks spread across the ceiling, and all at once, it collapsed inward. Evan dropped the phone, and was crushed by the weight of the falling second floor. "Evan? Are you there? EVAN!" Anne screamed into the phone. ... "Yes, I cannot figure out any answer to this conundrum!" shouted Dr. Kovski into the phone. He was speaking to a fellow doctor, Dr. Worth, an expert in psychological events. She was also puzzled. "Psychosomatic bruising would indeed explain the claw mark, but what about the Stark home? Apparently, it suffered a lot of damage for no apparent reason. The toddler said that the big bad wolf did it, right? And she also said he scratched her, right? Benny the wolf from the Detroit Zoo passed away recently. I think this may be paranormal," she mused. "That's purely science fiction!" "You have any other theories?" After pausing, Dr. Kovski continued. "D'you think this may be merely foundation problems?" "No, their home is rather new, and not near any sewers, and isn't in a watershed." "I have two paranormal related theories, that is, if you want to hear them." "By all means." "My first is that the child is being possessed, or followed by spirits. I think that some sort of ghostly form is attached to her and won't leave her alone." "Possible... Did I just say possible? Oh my. Continue." "My second is something completely unfathomable. It may be Alexis' imagination. Alexis has a deadly imagination, I think. I don't favor this, but it seems like that's just it." "What about Benny the wolf? "I also think that spirits can control her imagination. Something or other. Either way, this is completely new to the world of medicine. I can't think of any reasonable solution." "Wasn't the baby crying each time this happened? That may support your second hypothesis." "Yes... Yes. Oh, WAIT, sorry, I have to go. Kids are waiting. Buhbye."
Chapter 5] "EVAN?!" screamed Anne into the phone again. "Mom, I don't think he's there," muttered Claire. Anne hung up the phone and quickly dialed 9-1-1. "Clinton Township 911, what is your emergency?" said a female operator. "My son's hurt! Send someone to 1382 Barkwood Lane!" cried Anne. "Okay. What happened?" "I'm at my daughter's apartment, and was on the phone with my son. Then I heard this huge crash, and he didn't answer again." "Stay calm, ma'am. Help is on the way to that address. Do you need me to stay on the line with you?" "Yes please." ... A small squadron of police officers entered the Stark home cautiously. Easily they found the pile of rubble and Evan'c cell phone beside it. After about a half an hour, they had cleared the rubble and found Evan. His dead body was mangled. ... Evan was soon buried and his memorial service was held. The Starks, excluding Angela and Alexis, were staying in a hotel room. In all of this, Angela had managed to also get a new car. ... Angela was currently at work. Robert, the thirteen-year-old, and youngest, son of the Starks, was at her apartment, babysitting Alexis. It would soon be time for her to go to sleep, but now, she was happily playing on the carpet with plastic horses. "Evan, play?" suddenly asked Alexis after random mumbling. "Evan's... Gone," Robert said carefully, "Evan, lay on, coutz!" said Alexis, pointing to the empty sofa. Robert looked where she was pointing. "No he isn't, silly!" he said, trying to change the subject. "Evan, play? Plea-ea-ea-ea-ea-ea-se?" "I think it's time to go ny-night, Alexis." "Temo minnus." "Okay, ten more minutes." "Evan, play?" Alexis asked again. Robert shivered. Thinking nothing of it, Alexis continued playing with the horses, periodically neighing or making other unaudible noises. Soon, she was put to bed. Robert was staying at the apartment until Angela returned. He watched Nick at Nite on television while he waited, and his eyes became heavy. He suddenly jolted awake when he heard a shattering sound from the kitchen. Robert got up, and tiptoed slowly to the kitchen area in the apartment. On the linoleum floor was a broken ceramic jar, which had had toothpicks in it. Robert bent down to pick it up, and while doing so, a large china platter fell from above him somewhere. It landed straight on his face when he looked up. This didn't wound him at all, but scared him out of his wits. Robert quickly got up and went back into the living room to watch television. It was now a blank static screen. Robert began shaking in fear. Then, without any prior warning, his throat split open, and blood spilled out. He soon fell with a loud thud on the white, living room carpet. ... "Yes, I have chosen a more sensible solution to our little conundrum," said Dr. Worth. "What is it?" replied Dr. Kovski. "I think this baby has a deadly imagination. For some reason, I'm drawn to believe in this. Now one of her uncles, uh, Evan, yes, Evan, well, he's dead. That had nothing to do with Alexis though. The ceiling of the house fell in on him." "You're sure about this?" "Obviously not, but I prefer this theory. Bad things only seem to happen when she's around and someone died. The ghosts are using her to get through to here, somehow. Alexis has a deadly imagination."
Chapter 6] Angela unlocked the door to her apartment and walked into the kitchen. Naturally, she went into the living room to take her shoes off, but stopped when she saw Robert on the floor, in a puddle of blood. Angela shrieked, but then ran to Alexis' bedroom to check on her. Alexis was sound asleep, but shifting restlessly. Angela then ran back out to Robert's body, and knelt down next to him. He had no pulse. Angela quickly called the police. "Clinton Town-" started a male operator. "Hello? My brother's dead! Come here!" cried Angela. "Where are you, Miss?" "Uh... Lakeview Apartment Complex, building 2. unit 29945!" "I'll stay on the line with you until the help I sent arrives at your residence." "Th-th-thank you." Soon, sirens could be heard from outside, and seconds later, loud knocks came at the door. "Clinton Township Police! Open up!" a hefty man shouted. Angela rushed to the door and flung it open, tears streaming down her face. Without any greeting, two men came in and shuffled to the living room. A women came in shortly after, and went the same way. Angela followed. "Three hours dead, approximately," announced the woman, kneeling next to Robert, examing his wrists, temples, ankles, and neck. The other men searched the scene for any sort of evidence. "Quiet down, my baby's sleeping!" warned Angela. "So?" asked the woman in a sassy tone. "So? So?! You could all be in grave danger if she wakes up! You are right now! My doctor called me at work and said she has a deadly damn imagination!" lectured Angela, in a yelling voice, but quietly. All three officers stared at her as if she was an alien. The two men looked at each other, and nodded slightly. One man spoke in a monotone voice. "Angela Stark, you're under arrest for the murder of Robert Stark. You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions. Anything you do say may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without an attorney present you will still have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to an attorney. Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?" ... "Yes, Dr. Kovski? I'm sorry for calling you so late. I have been informed by the authorities that Robert Stark has been killed, and they've arrested the baby's mother for the murder!" said Dr. Worth. "Wow, really? Does this make any changes in our problem?" said Dr. Kovski groggily. "No, but-" "Then I'm going back to sleep then. Night night..." Dr. Kovski said firmly and hung up.
Chapter 7] "Me? Why am I under arrest?" cried Angela, outraged. "It's obvious you committed this murder, Miss, and we're taking you in for questioning," replied the man that was handcuffing her. "My baby's in there! She's sleeping!" "Well, it appears that we'll have to call a social worker, then, huh?" "No! No! UGH! Call my mom! She'll take her in for now!" "We do not know if this woman is certified to take care of children-" "To take care of children? ARE YOU MENTALLY CHALLENGED?! SHE'S MY MOTHER! MUH-THUR!" "She sure did a great job with you," murmured the autopsy woman sarcastically. "Just call my mom!" said Angela. ... "Oh, oh!" wailed Anne. "Two kids in one month!" Angela had been taken to the police station, and Alexis was handed off to Anne. "I'm sorry for your loss, ma'am, but I also have to ask you some questions," said a female investigator as she walked into the lobby. "I'm Trista Pollick." "W-why?" "Just come with me. No worries." ... "So, Mrs. Stark. When did Angela start acting strange?" asked Trista. "She never was acting strange," said Anne. "Did you ever-" "Look, I know she didn't do this. These questions are worthless, 'cause I got no answers." Suddenly, an outburst of crying came from Alexis, whom was being held by a different investigator outside the room. Anne looked up at the blind-covered window to the hall where she was. "Ignore it. Did Angela ever act as if she could commit a crime like this?" "No." "Did she-" "No." "Cooperate, or I have the permission to take you into custody as an accessory." "No you don't!" Alexis continued crying, which distracted Anne. She was now in plain view through a floor-to-ceiling window across from her, which led to the hallway outside the interrogation room. "Has Angela ever disappeared for long hours at a time?" asked Trista. "Shut the hell up!" Anne screamed, and suddenly the large glass window burst and shattered. It seemed as if a huge impact had hit it, and glass shards pelted Trista. Trista gasped, for one pierced directly through her neck. Alexis' crying was very clear now. Anne just sat with her jaw almost hitting the table in front of her. Blood began covering the table as Trista slumped onto it. Soon, investigators with guns brandished piled into the small room. All of them were pointed at Anne.
Chapter 8] "Ma'am, I need you to put your hands on your head!" ordered a man in the room. Anne obeyed, and spoke. "What did I do?" she asked. "Like you don't know," replied the man. ... "Yes, doctor. They have proved Angela innocent, except it appears that no one did it. No DNA was found on the scene, and the cut in Robert's neck wasn't even made by a weapon. It's as if it was ripped open neatly or something," spoke Dr. Worth. "And?" replied Dr. Kovski. "Ah, yes. An investigator was killed during Anne's questioning, and they thought Anne did it. Fortunately, camera footage has already proved that she couldn't have done it." "So...?" "Alexis' imagination did this. The thing is, there's nothing to do. It's not like we can stop it, ans we've hardly diagnosed it!" "Dr. Worth, in case you didn't know, this is now one of your cases, and I don't need to be kept posted on it." "Well I thought-" "You thought wrong. Bye." ... "Big bad wolf's gonna get me!" wailed Alexis. "I thought we got over this!" cried Angela. Angela ran to Alexis to calm her down before a wound appeared. "Gonna get me!" Alexis continued. Angela picked her up and hugged her. No wound had appeared on Alexis, luckily. "Alexis, see? There was nothing to be afraid of," comforted Angela. It was almost time for Alexis to go to bed. "Evan? Robert? B-b-wolf?" suddenly spoke Alexis. Angela gasped. ... "Hello?" said Dr. Kovski. "Sorry to bother you. Before you hang up, I have to tell you something. I'm thinking of having a paranormal investigator look at Alexis," reported Dr. Worth. "I'm busy, Katrina!" "I know, sorry. I just had to tell someone." "Katrina, Dr. Worth, we are not that close. I hate to be so rude, but I have a life to carry on with, and so do you. You have family. Bug them," Dr. Kovski said sternly and hung up.
Chapter 9] "Alexis, they're not here. They're gone," Angela explained. "Ober day!" shouted Alexis after holding in a huge breath of air. "They aren't over there Alexis!" "Yeah?" "Yeah, 'Lexis." "Yeah?" "Yeah. Time to go n'night." "Yeah?" "Yeah, n'night. Let's change your butt." ... "UGH! Why did I do such a stupid thing?!" screamed Dr. Kovski, slamming his head on his hospital office desk. Suddenly, the phone rang. Dr. Kovski picked it up. "What?!" "Dr. Kovski-" "You again? I told you, Katrina, QUIT CALLING ME!" "But-" "No," Dr. Kovski finished, hanging up. The phone rang again. "Listen, Katrina, I'm serious. You'd better quit calling, or I will have to do something even worse than screaming," Dr. Kovski warned menacingly. "What?" asked Dr. Worth. "Quit calling me!" "This is important-" "Share it with your-" "NO! I'm serious. I need to talk with you. I know what you did to Alexis. I know how this happened." Dr. Kovski sighed. "How?" "Well-" "HOW?!" "I-I searched your office, your records. You injected ACC0-G63 into Alexis at birth. It was an experiment. All your adult patients dies when testing it on them. Alexis was different, however. She is a toddler, and has a less developed brain. The chemical infected her brain differently. It gave her a bridge to the paranormal world. You didn't know that the unkempt imagination of such a young child would cause so much harm, did you? That's why you're avoiding speaking to me!" "I'm avoiding speaking to you 'cause you're ANNOYING AS HELL! You do know what I have to do now, Katrina, don't you?" "Is that a threat? I've got enough to threaten you with." "Oh-ho, trust me, no you don't. I'm on my way to your apartment-with a knife." "No, no! Don't! I'm warning you!" screamed Dr. Worth. Dr. Kovski didn't answer.
Chapter 10] Dr. Worth quickly hung up and clumsily dialed 9-1-1. "Southeast Michigan 911. What is your emergency?" asked a female operator. "Oh! A man is coming to my apartment to kill me!" answered Dr. Worth. "Wait, why don't you just-whatever. Squad cars comin' your way." "Th-th-thank you. Hello?" The operator had hung up. ... While Angela watched television, Alexis was wide awake in her room. For some reason she wasn't able to fall asleep. Nothing much was on her mind, so what could be agitating her enough to make her exhibit insomniacal behavior? Eventually, Alexis decided she wanted her mother. "Mumma!" she cried from her room. Angela entered the room and flicked on a light. Alexis was scooped up and held in a warm hug. She was looking down. Angela also looked down, and gasped. Drops of blood were falling onto the carpet. Angela's right index finger was splitting open! At once, Angela cried out in pain as the cut spread up her hand, and along her arm. She bent over slightly and set down Alexis quickly. As Angela rolled up her sleeve, writhing and screaming, Alexis crawled to a large air vent hole. She somehow managed to pull the vent cover off, and crawled into it backwards. Angela immediately saw. "Alexis, NO!" she scolded. Alexis continued, and, air blowing in her face, slid down a one-story shaft. She softly landed, and crawled onward. Eventually, she came to another vent cover, and screamed into it. A woman sitting on her bed looked at her frightenedly. "Alexis?!" cried Dr. Worth. She quickly got up and removed the vent cover. She then pulled the dust-covered Alexis from the vent and held her close. ... Angela watched in pain as the cut traveled closer to her neck. "AHH!" she screamed. Blood made the white carpet a dark red. Angela was standing in a puddle of her own blood. "HELP!" she cried. Then, Angela fell to the floor, sighing loudly. ... "Alexis? Wh-h-wh-th-how?" Dr. Worth managed to spit out. Alexis looked alert. "Mean guy coming, ober he?" said Alexis. "Y-yeah. We have to-" Suddenly, a loud bang shook Dr. Worth's lowly apartment. "I know you're here, Katrina!" yelled Dr. Kovski in a voice that seemed to shake the air.
Chapter 11] Dr. Worth scrambled through her bedroom and quickly stowed Alexis in a mostly empty drawer of hers. Dr. Worth then ran to the doorwall that led to a balcony from her bedroom. She unlocked it and flung it open. "Nice try," spoke Dr. Kovski, appearing from the other entrance to her balcony. Dr. Worth screamed at the top of her lungs, hoping that someone would here her. Dr. Kovski retrieved a large butcher's knife from his pocket, and held it in the moonlight. Meanwhile, Alexis had somehow managed to escape from the drawer, and had her face pressed against the doorwall. Neither doctor noticed her. "P-please, I won't tell!" begged Dr. Worth, a single tear streaming from each eye. "I cannot trust you, Katrina," Dr. Kovski whispered menacingly. He then, with one swift motion, jammed the knife into Dr. Worth's stomach. ... Angela was lying inert on the carpet in Alexis' bedroom in a puddle of her own blood. Suddenly, the door to her apartment burst open with a loud crash. "Hello?! Ms. Worth?!" yelled a police officer through the apartment. "Are you okay, Ms. Worth?!" The man strolled through the apartment, and entered Alexis' lit bedroom first. "Oh my God! Ms. Worth! Can you speak?" the young officer asked frantically, kneeling down to Angela's motionless body. Well, not completely motionless, for the officer discovered that she had a faint pulse. "I'm going to take you to the hospital, Ms. Worth. You hear me?" the man asked. Obviously, Angela hadn't. The man put his arms under Angela's bloodcovered body and carried her as if carrying his eight-year-old daughter. Fortunately, Angela was short and thin, and wasn't too much of a load for the strong officer. ... After an hour or so, Angela came to. She immediately tried to sit up, but fell back in pain. "Where's my daughter?" she asked quietly, but frantically. The officer sat with her. "Ms. Worth, you don't have any children. At least none were at your apartment," replied the man, confused. "Worth? I'm Angela Stark! My two year old daughter is awake at my apartment!" "No she isn't, you must have lost memory. I searched that apartment high and low." "Find my baby!" "You're not thinking your own thoughts, Ms. Worth!" "I'm Angela Stark!"
Chapter 12] "Ms. Worth, you aren't-" "SHUT UP! MY DAUGHTER'S ALONE AT MY APARTMENT!" Angela said, quickly sitting up with a loud groan of pain. She then, followed by her rolling IV pole, ran out of her tidy hospital room. Angela darted through several hallways, being pursued by the officer. "Ms. Worth, I command you-" started commanding the man, but stopped when he toppled over a frightened nurse. Angela found a linen closet, and hid inside. To her luck, a cellphone stood on a shelf next to a pail of water and a sponge. She picked it up and dialed Claire's cellphone number. "Yeah?" said Claire. "Claire, this is Angela. I'm at the hospital for some reason, and I need you to go to my apartment and get Alexis. They think I'm someone I'm not. Please-" "'Kay. I'll go pick her up." "Thanks, call when you've found her," closed Angela, hanging up. She then slid slowly down the wall and sat on the tiled closet floor. ... Claire entered Angela's apartment with ease, for the door was open. She gulped. "Alexis?!" Claire called loudly through the apartment, but could not find her. Looking in Alexis' room, Claire gasped. The cover of a vent was removed! Claire quickly called Angela back. "Claire?" "Angela! Alexis isn't there, and the vent's open!" "Oh! Uh, check in the apartment below mine!" "Wh-h-okay. I'll, I'll keep you on the phone." Claire held the phone to her ear and made her way through the dark hallway of the apartment building to find the staircase. Once she found it, Claire studied the position of Angela's apartment, and found the one directly below it. Its door was busted in. "Hello?!" Claire called through the stylish, dark, apartment. After searching, Claire found a bedroom, and Alexis' face was pressed up against a doorwall. A woman was standing there with a man. Claire picked up Alexis. "Claire? Did you find her?" said Angela through the phone. "Yeah, one sec," replied Claire quietly. She opened the doorwall carefully, and the man gave a cold look. "Uh, I found my niece here, and-" Claire started. Suddenly, the woman groaned in extreme pain and fell to the concrete ground of the balcony. The man jumped at her with his large butcher knife. Dr. Worth appeared motionless, and Dr. Kovski backed Claire, whom was still holding Alexis, into a corner of the room. "Claire?" Claire heard from her cellphone. "Uh, mister, please, I have a baby with me!" begged Claire. The man put his index finger to his lips as if shushing her, and smiled evilly. He raised his bloody knife slowly. "No, no, no, no, NO!" screamed Claire as the knife approached, but Dr. Kovski stopped. He clutched Claire's neck and pushed her against the wall. Then, he smiled even bigger, and after pulling his arm back, pierced Claire's neck with the knife.
Chapter 13] Claire screamed, knelt to the ground, dropping Alexis gently, and fell slowly onto the posh carpet. Dr. Kovski then looked at Alexis coldy. Dr. Worth was breathing deeply on the concrete floor, facing inside her bedroom. What she saw was gruesome. Alexis was spattered with blood, Claire was lying inert on the floor, and Dr. Kovski was covered in blood. Alexis then turned around and looked straight at her. Her eyes seemed to light up. Alexis stared at a curtain rod hanging above the doorwall, and suddenly started bawling at a deafening volume. Dr. Kovski picked her up and covered her mouth with a bloody hand, cursing under his breath. Then, it seemed as if the walls were breathing quietly. The room became hot. Dr. Kovski set Alexis down, and she screamed at the top of her lungs. The curtain rod above the doorwall creaked, and came loose. It then flew directly at Dr. Kovski. Dr. Kovski simply grabbed the rod, knowing of the abilities of what he had injected into Alexis two years ago. ... "CLAIRE?!" screamed Angela into the phone, hearing Alexis' screaming. The door to her closet burst open, and two men grabbed her forearms and dragged her out of the closet. They forced her all the way back to her hospital room. "ALEXIS IS AT MY APARTMENT!" screamed Angela. "WHERE ARE MY OLD CLOTHES?! I HAVE A PICTURE OF HER ON MY PHONE!" "Ma'am, calm down. Your sister will be here shortly to pick you up," said the officer, who was waiting at her room. Angela felt lightheaded, and fell into a deep sleep. ... "Here she is, Mrs. Welford. She'll have to stay overnight-" "That isn't Katrina!" shouted a woman at the foot of Angela's bed. Her face swirled around Angela's vision dreamily. "Wha?" mumbled Angela foggily. She tried to sit up, but couldn't move at all. "She tried to get out of here. She has amnesia it appears, Mrs. Welford," explained a doctor standing with the woman. "But this isn't my sister," repeated Mrs. Welford. "It has to be. She called the police and we found her at her apartment all cut up and bleeding half to death." "It isn't Katrina. Are you sure they went to her apartment?" "Yes, 9B." "She lives in 8B." "Are you sure?" interrupted the officer. Angela let out a small groan, and tried to nod. All three looked at her. "What is your name, dear?" asked the doctor. "Gela Tark," tried Angela. "Pardon?" asked Mrs. Welford. "Negela Star," said Angela groggily. "We put her under some anesthetic so she'd calm down. She said she's Angela Stark," chimed in the officer from the background. "Someone needs to go and help Katrina!" cried Mrs. Welford. The officer mumbled something quickly into a "walkie-talkie" and left the room.
Chapter 14] It's time to step back a bit. Anne, Angela's mother, passed away suddenly and mysteriously at the police station. It was never proven that she murdered Trista. I bet you weren't expecting that! But all this is beside the point; let's cut the suspense and return to Dr. Worth's apartment. ... Dr. Kovski bent down to grab Alexis, and she started crying as loud as ever; possibly deafening. It didn't seem human. He scooped her up anyway and placed a bloody hand over her mouth to silence her. He then stood for a moment in silence and thought. Suddenly, he dropped Alexis in pain. She bit him! Alexis scrambled over to the sliding doorwall, who's window shattered immediately. She climbed out onto the balcony determinedly and lied down next to Dr. Worth. Dr. Worth looked over at her, breathing deeply, and suddenly, her eyes brightened. She stood up, blood dripping from her wound lightly as it closed as if by magic. "Alexis?" said Dr. Worth, extremely confused. Alexis then stood and made her way to the balcony fence. Sliding between two bars of the fence, Alexis gracefully jumped from the balcony. "STOP!" screamed Dr. Worth, nearly diving off the balcony herself. ... "Hurry!" cried Mrs. Welford out of the door. "Mrs. Welford, would you happen to know this woman?" asked the doctor. "Of course not!" replied Mrs. Welford, crossing her arms. The doctor nodded and took down some notes. "Well, we know who she is now, but it appears her mother and brothers are both dead. The only contacts she has are her father and her sister." "Why should I care?" "Alexis!" suddenly cried Angela. A machine began beeping rapidly. Several nurses rushed in, and the doctor rushed to Angela's bedside. "She's in cardiac arrest!" shouted a nurse. The doctor rubbed two pads attached to a machine together, and firmly pressed Angela's chest with them. "No response!" shouted a nurse. "Try again!" shouted another. The doctor rubbed the pads together and attempted to revive Angela again. It didn't work. Beeeeeeeep...
Chapter 15] Dr. Worth leaned over the balcony. Alexis had landed somewhere she couldn't see. Suddenly, Dr. Kovski leaped at her from the inside of her apartment. He tried to strike her with the knife handle, but her reflexes had improved somehow. Dr. Worth grabbed his wrist, and forcefully pushed him over the balcony, actually accidentally. She threw her hands to her face, and peered over the ledge. Kovski had landed on a wrought-iron fence; he had been impaled. Then, she gasped again at a different sight. Alexis was hanging onto the balcony below her own. Dr. Worth wasn't sure what to do. She thought of climbing down to her, but that would be too dangerous. Finally, she decided to go to the apartment below and hope for a positive outcome. She quickly darted from her apartment, and found the one directly below hers. She rapped on the door loudly. A groggy older man opened the door. "Who do you think you are, Katrina?" said the man angrily. She didn't care. She pushed the elderly man out of her way and ran to his balcony, where Alexis was hanging precariously. Dr. Worth grabbed Alexis' hands, and held her tightly. Alexis began crying, but Dr. Worth shushed her quickly without a fuss. She then heard a loud siren approaching. Several patrol cars pulled into the apartment building's parking lot, and one pulled over to Dr. Kovski's body. "HEY!" screamed Dr. Worth from the balcony. Three officers came out of the police car, and they rushed into the building, appearing moments later on the balcony above her. Dr. Worth then returned to her apartment, and one officer approached her with a grim expression. "What happened here, ma'am?" she asked gesturing towards Claire's body. "Uh, oh, my colleague tried to kill me, and, well, he succeeded killing her, and he tried killing me again, and I accidentally pushed him off the balcony!" Dr. Worth explained loudly and dramatically. "Are you sure? That man is pretty far away from where he should have landed from a push from an average person." "Y-yes. Something weird happened. This baby healed me and made me all powerful and stuff. I don't know what happened!" "Of all the excuses I've heard in my time-" "You think I did it?! Look at phone records. Examine the body!" "We will do that. But for now, you have the right to remain silent..."
Epilogue] Almost immediately, Dr. Worth was proven innocent. "We do need to take you down to the station for questioning, though," spoke the female officer. Dr. Worth nodded with an exhausted look on her face. ... So Alexis had in part caused the death of five people. As she grew, her strange ability seemed to fade away. Angela was forced to raise her alone, the only family left she had being her father. He would stay alive for several decades to come, but his death wouldn't come before Angela's. During Alexis' high school graduation party, a tragic event occurred. At one point, she consumed alcohol, and became extremely depressed. Everyone at the party dropped dead. Alexis' grandfather wasn't attending the party at the time, however. By this time, Alexis was considered an adult, and had to live on her own for the rest of her life. Alexis kept in touch with Dr. Worth, calling her once or twice a day. Dr. Worth was now a motherly influence on her. Eventually, at aged thirty-seven, Alexis was all on her own. Both her grandfather and Dr. Worth passed away on the same day. At this time, however, Alexis was married. She decided not to reproduce, as her ability could be passed through genes. She was constantly having to keep her emotions under control, for risk of murdering her husband or anyone around. Alexis' life ended the next year, having become angry at a vandalism occurring at her house. Both her husband and her were found dead with glass window shards piercing their neck. Three people attended her funeral. Alexis Stark's life was not a happy one, killing near everyone around her. The Stark family tree ended here, for no other descendants were alive, and any distant live ones had chosen not to reproduce as well. Looking forward to death in a way, Alexis was glad to be among her late family. But does heaven exist? Where is Hell? Alexis learned this too early, as well her entire family. Kendo Fish
This should be interesting... It looks good so far. That story was TIGHT. I guess. But to be picky, when you say 'whom' it should be 'who', methinks.
Kaisu
I don't get this, but it's a prolouge, so yeah. Write more, it seems good..

But to be picky' date=' when you say 'whom' it should be 'who', methinks.[/quote'] Thanks. I am never sure when to use whom. I think it makes me sound professional. -_^ I don't get this' date=' but it's a prolouge, so yeah. Write more, it seems good..[/quote'] Yeah, it's a horror-ish fic. Mysterious right now. It's based off members of my family. ^_^ I'll be in it later, except I'll have a different name, and appearance. Same position in family and personality, though. Skippy Canoe
Yes. Real characters, fake story. My niece didn't really get clawed for no reason. She did say "The big bad wolf's gonna get me!" though, even though nothing was there. It's 2 year old imagination growth. -_^

RyanAtlus
This prologue looks a lot like a short story to me. How long are you planning to make this?
Skippy Canoe
Yes, the prologue is short, but it won't be like that for the rest of the story. There will be a lot more content in the following chapters to make it look less like a short story. ^_^

Skippy Canoe
Yeah, I actually tried making it exciting, and not making the chapters a mile long each unlike some others who's names I won't mention. *coughcoughdejacrucoughcough* No, but she's a great writer anyway. ^_^

Skippy Canoe
Yeah, I normally write much longer chapters, but to make more suspense and to prevent the reader from getting bored, I make action-packed smaller chapters.
