Reviving A Dead Archetype

Hello. Some of you may remember remnants of this archetype scattered amongst various sets. This is the Gradius series of cards based on the video game series of the same name.

 

Currently, only the following Gradius cards are available:

 

-Gradius

-Falchionβ

-Jade Knight

-Lord British Space Fighter

-Victory Viper XX03

-Gradius' Option

-Cyclon Laser

 

 

...and other related cards, such as the B.E.S. series. But I want to focus now on the Gradius themselves as they deserve a little time in the spotlight. Note that most names of cards have been altered but all are taken from the Gradius video game series.

Name: Sabel Tiger

Attribute: LIGHT

Level: 4

Type: Machine/Effect

Effect: While this card is in face-up attack position, face-up Machine-Type monsters you control with 1200 or less Original ATK cannot be destroyed by the effects of Spell Cards. When this monster destroys a monster as a result of battle, select and activate one of the following effects: -During your next battle phase, this monster can attack your opponent's life points directly. -Add 1 "Option Counter" to this card. This card gains 300 ATK for every "Option Counter" on it. -Remove any number of "Option Counter"s from this card. Destroy spell or trap cards on the field equal to the number of "Option Counter"s removed.

Name: Thrasher

Attribute: LIGHT

Level: 4

Type: Machine/Effect

Effect: While this card is in face-up attack position, face-up Machine-Type monsters you control with 1200 or less original ATK cannot be destroyed by the effects of Effect Monster Cards. When this monster destroys a monster as a result of battle, select and activate one of the following effects: -During your next battle phase, during battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent. -This card can attack once again in a row. -Increase the ATK of this card by 300 for every monster destroyed by this card as a result of battle until the end of your next turn.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This monster can only be Special Summoned by selecting 1 face-up LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. The ATK and DEF of this card becomes the same as the ATK and DEF of the selected monster. If the selected monster attacks, this card has to attack, if able. You can tribute this card to destroy 1 card on the field. If the selected monster is removed from the field, destroy this card.

Name: Vector Option

Attribute: LIGHT

Level: 1

Type: Machine/Effect

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This monster can only be Special Summoned by selecting 1 face-up LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. The ATK and DEF of this card becomes the same as the ATK and DEF of the selected monster. If the selected monster attacks, this card has to attack, if able. Once per turn, you can double the selected monster's ATK. If you activate this effect, Vector Option cannot attack during this turn. If the selected monster is removed from the field, destroy this card.

Name: Flanking Option

Type: Machine/Effect

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This monster can only be Special Summoned by selecting 1 face-up LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. When this card is summoned, tribute this card. Then, special summon as many "Option Tokens" (LIGHT/Level 1/Machine-type/? ATK/? DEF/The original ATK of this token is equal to that of the monster selected by the effect of "Flanking Option". This token cannot be tributed for a tribute summon.) as possible from your deck. If the selected monster is removed from the field, destroy all "Option Tokens" on the field.

Name: Guardian Option

Type: Machine/Effect

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This monster can only be Special Summoned by selecting 1 face-up LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. The ATK and DEF of this card becomes the same as the ATK and DEF of the selected monster. If the selected monster attacks, this card has to attack, if able.If the selected monster would be destroyed, you can choose to destroy this card instead. If the selected monster is removed from the field, destroy this card.

Name: Stage 1

Icon: Field

Effect: This can only be activated if you control a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. Monsters with 2000 or more ATK cannot declare an attack, except for LIGHT Machine-type monsters with 1200 or less original ATK. If a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK destroys an opponent's monster as a result of battle, you can send this card from the field to the graveyard to put "Stage 2" from your hand, deck, or graveyard into play. If you activate this effect, you cannot activate the effects of LIGHT Machine-type monsters during this turn.

 

Name: Stage 2

Icon: Field

Effect: This card cannot be activated except by the effect of "Stage 1". Increase the ATK of all LIGHT Machine-type monsters with 1200 or less original ATK by 1000. Monsters with 3000 or more ATK cannot declare an attack, except for LIGHT Machine-type monsters with 1200 or less original ATK. If a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK destroys an opponent's monster as a result of battle, you can send this card from the field to the graveyard to put "Final Stage" from your hand, deck, or graveyard into play. If you activate this effect, you cannot activate the effects of LIGHT Machine-type monsters during this turn.

 

Name: Final Stage

Icon: Field

Effect: This card cannot be activated except by the effect of "Stage 2". Increase the ATK of all LIGHT Machine-type monsters with 1200 or less original ATK by 1500. When this card is activated, special summon as many monsters with "B.E.S." in their name, or are named "Big Core" as possible from your deck to your opponent's side of the field. All monsters special summoned this way gain counters until they have 5 and cannot be destroyed or have control switched by the effects of Spell, Trap, and effects of Effect Monster Cards except for their own effects. If your opponent no longer controls a monster special summoned by this card's effect, you win the game.

 

Name: Acceleron Speed Up

Icon: Quick-Play

Effect: This card can only be activated during the damage step of either player's turn. If you activate this card during your turn, one LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field can attack twice this turn. If you activate this card during your opponent's turn, if a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field is attacked, increase the ATK of that monster until its ATK is equal to that of the attacking monster +100 until the end of the damage step.

 

Name: Rocketon Missile

Icon: Equip

Effect: You can only equip this card to a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK. Increase the ATK of the equipped monster by 600 points. You can send this card from the field to the graveyard to destroy 1 card on the field.

 

Name: Duon Double Shot

Icon: Equip

Effect: You can only equip this card to a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK. Increase the ATK of the equipped monster by 300 points. The equipped monster can attack twice during the battle phase. If "Acceleron Speed Up" is activated on the equipped monster, the equipped monster can attack three times instead.

 

Name: Cyclon Laser Mk. II

Icon: Equip

Effect: You can only equip this card to a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK. Increase the ATK of the equipped monster by 300 points. When the equipped monsters attacks with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of a Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points.

 

Name: Power Capsule Mk. II

Icon: Normal

Effect: Select 1 face-up LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK and an effect that can be activated when it destroys a monster to activate this card. Select 1 effect of that monster, and apply the effect as this card's effect.

 

Name: Eagle Wind

Icon: Normal

Effect: This can only be activated if you control a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. Your opponent discards one card from their hand. They can negate this effect by paying 1500 Life points.

Name: Barrion Force Field

Icon: Normal

Effect: Add 3 "Barrier Counters" to 1 face-up LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK. If the monster would be destroyed, you can remove 1 "Barrier Counter" from that monster instead.

 

Name: Saboton Bomb Spreader

Icon: Normal

Effect: Tribute 1 LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK. Destroy monsters on your opponent's side of the field equal to the number of LIGHT Machine-type monsters with 1200 or less original ATK in your graveyard.

 

Name: Scatton Spreader Shot

Icon: Normal

Effect: Activate only when your opponent declares an attack against a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK on your side of the field. Destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field except the attacking monster.

 

Name: Last Resort - Mega Crusher

Icon: Counter

Effect: You can activate this card from your hand if you have four LIGHT Machine-type monsters with 1200 or less original ATK in your graveyard. You can only activate this card if you would take enough damage from a battle involving a LIGHT Machine-type monster with 1200 or less original ATK to lose the game. You take no battle damage from the attack. Destroy all cards on the opponent's side of the field and remove all cards in their hand from play. Skip your next turn. This card's activation and effect cannot be negated.

wow thoses sound pretty tcg legal.. cept for final stage a little out there...

other than that i think the Gradius idea is great

 

Well I wanted Final Stage to be rather unique in a sense. I wanted it to be a true Final Stage where Gradius takes down the Big Core.
