Brushfire
Simple question is simple. Ever used a deus ex machina in writing?
Amethyst Phoenix
I did, but then a random bottle of white out appeared above it and got rid of it. It's actually Deus Ex Machina, btw ("e" comes first).
Brushfire
Well, I can't edit the Poll but I fixed the spelling the title and post. Thanks for that. =P
Polycarp
Yup =) and only once for an english paper =/ I slacked off on it and turned it in a day late... I'm an awful student >.
OMGAKITTY
Watchmen wins this thread for not only using Deus ex Machina, but then calling themselves out on it.
bury the year
Yeah, but then I had to give him back. He was dying and all, and I think Mirai Nikki needed its plot point back.
Lemniscate
I frankly can't stand it. I find it lazy. So no.
TAG
Loads of times. Why else would my essays suck? I did' date=' but then a random bottle of white out appeared above it and got rid of it. I caught it, but it was like 2am so I didn't bother to comment on it. Naturally, the white bottle was your deus ex machina that stopped you from using a deus ex machina. I used it in good faith, and yes it is lazy, but I wanted to wrap up my short story before it was too long to be handed in. >.<
fenrir
I use it on occasion, saves the plot from the fiend called delete.

Amaterasu
Of course. No DM is complete without a Deux Ex Machima.
Captain Lawless
Maybe if I set it up a bit earlier, something happens, and said DEM occurs but is "godlier" XDI'll use them, but with limits and a solid reason / explanation / good ending to back it up. Muluck
I came to this thread to answer no, until I looked up Deus Ex Machina. "is a plot device in which a person or thing appears "out of the blue" to help a character to overcome a seemingly insolvable difficulty" I have used this several times, without even knowing what it was called. I appreciate this now, thanks for the thread Brushfire.
