One 'super' console.

Just hear me out on this one, and please none of the 'never gonna happen' bullshit. Reason? No sheet. This is a 'what-if' thread. Anyway, now that I've got that out the way I'll explain my idea.

What if Sony, Microsoft and perhaps Nintendo decided to work together on a 'super console', in which all previously unique titles would be released on, etc.. Obviously, the profits from this console would be split 50/50, or 33.33/33.33/33.33, but whatever. There are two sides to this idea, as whether Nintendo is included in this idea would change the idea. I'll explain that now.

Idea 1 (Sony and Microsoft working together on one console):

This is the main idea, and I'm not even sure why they wouldn't do it, but I'm sure I'll get one of those sarcastic comments explaining why. The benefits of this idea is that they'd be able to work together to develop new technology and graphical abilities for the console, while maintaining the benefits of the XBOX 360 and PS3 (Project Natal, Sky, etc. and Blu-ray, PS3 capabilities, etc.). This could possibly lead to a birth of a console that could actually last over 10 years (as Sony wanted the PS3 to do so). Another benefit would be the merging of the XBOX Marketplace and PStore, meaning while it would keep all the XBOX Originals, 360 downloads etc. it would also have all the Sony classics and numerous other stuff. This could also mean that avatars and whatever the PS3 has could be merged (though I'm not sure how many people would consider this a benefit). Furthermore, people would be able to use either their XBOX Live or PSN accounts (or use it as a base on this new console's live equivalent, like- create a new account or use an existing Live/PSN account). They'd have reason to charge for this, but there's also a chance that they wouldn't, either way it wouldn't matter too much to me. The main reason this would be a great idea is that all previously unique titles would be available on this new console, such as:

Halo

Gears of War

Forza

GTA Chapters

Little Big Planet

inFamous

Gran Turismo

etc.

So if you had this new console, you wouldn't need to buy a 360 for Halo or a PS3 for LBP, but could buy it for this new console and save the trouble of that. Both the 360 and PS3 owners get the benefits because previous 360 owners still don't have to buy something like LBP, but if they only had 360 before they could get the chance while still playing Halo on the same console, thus increasing sales.

Anyway, that round about sums up Idea 1 of this. Onto Idea 2.

Idea 2 (Sony/Nintendo or Microsoft/Nintendo working together on one console):

This idea is (obviously) similar to the other one, but I'm going to use the base of either Sony or Microsoft working with Nintendo on a new console instead. Hardcore casual anyone, lol?

The benefits of this idea are pretty much the same as Idea 1, I'm sure you can go figure to what they would be. Avatar/Mii merge, etc.. But the main benefit of this idea is the graphical improvement of Nintendo's games. I'm sure all you Nintendo fanboys would love to see Pokémon in full HD with graphics to match that of... lets say Fable 2 for an example (as in, the graphics don't have to be realistic, as that could kill the game)- or Super Smash in the same concept. Well, I at least know I would. Mario Kart with realistic-like graphics like Forza? Or even keeping the same style of graphics while looking A LOT better? I don't mean to ramble on about graphics, as of course that isn't the only thing that makes a game good (it's part of it, though not a lot). This would also help the gameplay a ton with the 360/PS3's engines. I mean, there could possibly be the choice between a PS3-like controller or a Wii-like controller. In my mind, I'm imagining it being something similar to the Gamecube's controller though. Basically everything the Wii should have been after the lack of success from the Gamecube.

Anyway, that round about sums it up. If you really read all of this, give me your thoughts. =P

Oh, btw- say tl;dr I kick your ass.

The second idea sounds better to me, mostly because of the 3, Nintendo is most focused on gaming. As for whether to work along with Sony or Microsoft I'm not sure. I'd probably say Microsoft, because if Sony got involved, the price of the Playtendo Station would skyrocket.

I'm a big fan of the second idea too. Mainly because I'd love for an 'upgraded GameCube to match the 360/PS3' instead of the Wii, but yeah. I doubt that they'd actually work alongside them and do it, but who knows? Also lol @ Playtendo Station. PSii? xD Nah, I'd think they'd rather work with Microsoft, their prices tend to be more reasonable.

I like the first idea better. Sony and Microsoft were pretty much geared towards hardcore gaming. If they fused...the result would be breathtaking. Adding Nintendo into the mix makes no sense. Nintendo is more family oriented and classic style gaming. Playstation and Xbox aren't geared towards that....with a few exceptions.

Nintendo is in a league all it's own. But Sony and Micro teaming up sounds good to me.

NOOB EDIT: What does tl;dr mean anyway?

I wish guys would team up with Nintendo, that would be sweet. I'd like to see awesome games on 1 console so I wouldn't have to pick between consoles (because I'm too poor to buy all 3 of each gen) and get all awesome games from the Wii, XBOX360, and PS3.

Wouldn't it be better to get a console that would go for BOTH audiences? In the end, it means a bigger profit.

Also, tl;dr is an acronym for "Too Long; Didn't Read".

Nintendo would ruin everything. I don't see it happening. Sony and Microsoft don't seem to like each other much. Even if they did band together they'd need to drop Nintendo on its ass and leave them out in the cold. If they let Nintendo in the entire idea would be soiled, and end up too kid-friendly. Nintendo has been letting M-games slide and i think they actually have a couple of adult games for the DS in japan. But their kid-friendly nature would just ruin it. I don't think Nintendo would join anyways, they seem to like the idea that any amateur game designer can surpass the graphical capabilities of their console, or they can abide to the limits and make crappy $50 games that wouldn't fly off the shelves if it were free.

1) Seeing as how it'd be a joint system, Nintendo wouldn't be able to make it completely kid-friendly since Microsoft/Sony would have input on the system as well.

2) I suggest you reread Brushfire's first sentence.

No need to do this' date=' the super console you speak off has already been made:

His super console was the combined effort of multiple companies. This isn't. So no, it hasn't.

Still it would beat the effort of the combined companies.

Because 16-bit technology is much better then we have nowadays? -.-'

Regardless of whether or not it would, that's not the point. This topic is about the combined efforts of the companies, not a company that tried their hand at the console market and lost (although I wish they hadn't. >_<)
