Dream Theater

I really don't like Dream Theater. I find them to be really over-the-top and annoying. There's no sense of structure to their songs. It's like verse' date=' verse, chor- nevermind, we're going to solo for twelve minutes, chorus, verse, solo, done.

Too much wankery for me. ;\

Pull Me Under is a cool song.

But I'm not sure if that's a Dream Theater song or a Theater of Dreams song.

Yep it's Dream Theater. What's Theater of Dreams...?0_o

Really? Wow you're the first people to say that.

My boyfriend is all hypy on them because they're so talented and all. So according to him, if you like DT you're a musical, intellectual person with a refined taste and strong sense of aesthetic and if you don't then you don't know anything about music.

And the whole "no structure" and over-the-top difficultiness in their songs is what he finds so awesome. "Because anything else is mainstream crap and totally non-musical."

...yeah.:/ *sigh*

(I don't like arrogant people so I always knock him down when he starts talking like that.=D)

Got to admit, Scenes from a Memory and Octavarium are great and they can play their instruments but I wouldn't say they're the ultimate proof of musicality.

Decent band, Opal thinks.

The way I see it, anybody with any amount of musical knowledge can write long, drawn-out music based mainly on theory. That doesn't really impress me. When I listen to Dream Theater, I don't hear any emotion. There's a difference between writing complex music and writing music with real emotion. ;\
