Master Chief13
My friends and i want to set up a tournament at the end of the school year to raise money for a club. The only problem is that a lot of people know that they will never compete in a tournament and so they use baneed cards in their decks. Should we go with Traditional or Advanced format? shadowferret
I'd say go ahead and go with Traditional. Everyone gets to play that way.Plus, if you can beat your opponent despite the fact they're using banned cards, then it means you have a pretty damn good deck. Master Chief13
yea but i wanted it to be as close as possible to an actual tournament because there will be prizes (hopefully)
Darkest Hour
Semi-Traditional. OTKs vs. OTKs is boring as sheet, but being able to use overpowered cards is sometimes fun. Do your friends use OTKs or infinite loops? If not, Traditional.
.Leo
~Advantages~ Traditional:- People can keep Regular Decks.- Provides a better competition.- You can use Monster Reborn. ;3 Advanced:- It is Fair.- Strategy comes into play BIG TIME.- Cheating is minimal ~Disadvantages~ Traditional:- Cheating is more bound to happen- Makes it a little unfair. Advanced- People might not follow Ban List.- Makes it compliacted for some. I woudl chose Advanced. Makes it more fair.
Toffee.
Traditional is better for releasing the bogus. But still.... Its Chaos Emperor, and who doesnt want to run him? Also:and so they use baneed cards in their decks......Exactly how many copies of said banned cards are they using? Since thats another thing to consider. ~ P O L A R I S ~
Traditional is stupid. The Forbidden List promotes skill over whoever can sack into their 2-card game winning combo first. It exists for a reason.
Fraz
Traditional is stupid. The Forbidden List promotes skill over whoever can sack into their 2-card game winning combo first. It exists for a reason. While that's true, people who aren't hugely into yugioh won't be playing dmoc loop or anything like that. I imagine people would be playing Gemini Elves n stuff so letting them play dark hole won't make a huge difference to the fairness of their decks. zombiepromking
i say advanced. BTW trad. has limits too. If you do trad. make sure no one's running any of the main gods of brokenness.
Hydra of Ages
Running trad would be a little too risky. Despite how noobish the general entrants may be, there's bound to be one jackass running a Yata-Lock, or Loop of some sort. Or even just, as was mentioned, three Pots with three Magicians of Faith. Any kid would like at least 1 in his deck.
Hydra of Ages
Alright. Now how many kids running that Necro Gardna would know how to use it properly? I'd bet a fair sum of money they'd use it up the moment they get hit by a Vorse Raider or something. Plus, it only has 600 attack. Meaning it's "lame". Fraz
Jaden used it. Therefore kids love it. Playing 3 pot and faith isn't that bad. Kids play general beatdown strategy. Guaranteed they won't be able to capitalize unfairly if they played those.
Flame Dragon
Advanced since if some one knew what they were doing it would be "win by coin flip" if you go Traditional. Still if you think no one would like an Advanced style then you might need to go trad.
Dark_Armed_Zombie
I'd say go Advance and tell them now since you have a good while until the end of school. That way they can read up on the banlist and change their decks accordingly. If noone seems to go for Advance, change to Traditional, but I really doubt you will need to. The kids at my previouse HS played either meta decks or advance format, it was fantastic really. If they didn't, they soon did
Guest PikaPerson01
It really depends on like... I guess the type of deck they use. If they're all noobs and have no idea what they're doing, let them use their Raigeki on La Jinn and Vorse Raider, and Feather Duster on Trap Hole and Cylinder. If even one guy... actually ****ing knows what he's doing and would be dick enough to bring DMoC Loop or Yata-Lock or something, yeah... go with Trads. You've still got a load of time I assume, not sure exactly when the year ends for you... But in any case, Pot of Greed isn't at 3 for either of the banlist, so I have no clue what lolYCM is talking about here. Edit: Damn it! I meant "Yeah... go with advanced". /wrists
Toffee.
@Pika: Its the "kids at there school". You cant assume that everyone there knows how to properly play/know the current list. Most non-competetive newbies only really knw whats in the "Enclosed Instruction Booklet".You know that ;)
GenzoTheHarpist
If you ever hear the phrase "exchange of the spirit" switch to advanced pronto.
Flash Flyer - Sakura
I'd go with Traditional, but if they overdo it with the banned cards, use Advanced.

Sephiroth_The_Legend
trad, requires minimal thinking. people will have fun that way.if you want to have a fun tournament, go Trad, its easy to set up a deck for it (Thank you CED).
