starwebs1
I wrote this story in school, and I wanted to post it on here, and since there isn't a forum for non-fanfiction stories, I was told to post all stories here. [spoiler=Fred the Fish]Fred the Fishby starwebs1Written September 3, 2009 Fred had always wondered what life would be like outside of his bowl. And one day, he found out.One sunny Tuesday afternoon, Fred was in his bowl on the top middle shelf of the bookcase that had all of the boxes and baskets and things of that sort, when he said to himself yet again, “I wonder what it would be like outside of this round thing.” However, this time getting out of that bowl was more of an action than a thought. Fred had never actually tried to get out. That is, until now.Fred had finally built up enough courage to jump out of the bowl. So, Fred thought, here goes! And he jumped! But did he make it?! THAT is the question! Yes! He did make it! Although, it didn’t go exactly as planned, for he missed his target: the shelf his bowl was on. Instead, he landed a couple shelves below in one of the baskets. He was still a bit lucky, though. His owner—the eleven-year-old boy, Tom—was just coming down the hallway that lead into Fred’s room when he heard the soft plop of Fred’s body hitting the bottom of the basket, and then something else falling. So he dashed into the room and saw Fred’s empty fish bowl, while everything else remained unchanged. This made Tom worry quite a bit. He tried calling Fred’s name. Nope. He looked through all of the bins and baskets and boxes. That didn’t work, either. Which probably makes you wonder where Fred could be, right? Okay, I’ll explain:Fred jumped out of his bowl, missed the shelf and fell into a basket. That you already know. But what you don’t know is that Tom’s little four-year-old sister, Cindy, had been messing around in Fred’s room earlier, and when she was called into the dining room for breakfast, she had left a basket half off a shelf. That was the basket Fred fell into. When he fell in the basket, he landed in the side that was off of the shelf. So the basket fell off the shelf and Fred rolled out of it, and under a chair. And that is where Fred is now. Now, where was I…? Oh, yes. Tom had just finished looking through all the things on the shelves when he found the basket on the floor. He picked it up, hoping to find his fish there. Well, he shouldn’t have gotten his hopes up. As you already know, Fred was not there.Tom was very confused. He then said to himself, “Where could that fish be?” Well, too bad you can’t just yell at this book and tell him.He decided he’d go ask his parents for help. He then ran to the kitchen, where his parents thankfully were still cleaning the dishes from yesterday’s dinner.“Mom! Dad!” he shouted. “Fred got out of his bowl and I can’t find him anywhere! Please, come help!” So they followed him back to Fred’s room. When they got there, they looked around everywhere Tom looked, and nowhere else.“Well, I just have one idea where he could be,” said Tom’s father.“WHERE?!” Tom asked rather loudly.“Well, he might have gotten out of the basket you told me was on the floor, and rolled somewhere. Mind checking under that chair?” he said and then pointed to the chair.“Sure,” Tom replied. He picked up the chair, and to his relief, saw…Fred the fish!“Here he is! Here he is!” Tom yelled, nearly dropping the chair. His father quickly bent down and picked Fred up and put him back in his bowl.“Fred! You’re back! How did you get out of your bowl? What made you even try?” Questions like these continued for about five minutes, as if they expected him to respond. He did, but you know that fish speak in a different language than humans, right? Well, you should. Anyway, you want to hear what Fred said after his owners left? Here it is:“Well, I did it once, hated it, and never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER want to do it again!” The End
