Daytona Beach. What a wonderful spot to lay back and relax…. Yeah right. Daytona Beach is the last place you would relax at. Especially when today is the day of the Pacific Academy entrance exams. Hey, Brian’s the name. I plan on attending Pacific Academy with my brothers. My older brother Kevin, 16, and my two younger brothers. Dylan, 10, and Levi, nine. And I’m 15 by the way. The academy accepts duelists of all ages and the best part is that it’s located on an island. And I know what you’re thinking. “You mean your parents actually let you go to an island all by yourself?” But relax, our parents work as teachers. Our mom and dad teach Dueling Strategies 101. They enjoy the world of dueling and bestowed the game onto us as long as I can remember.

We walked in not feeling an ounce of nerve. Actually, we were pretty confident. Going to a private academy that only good duelists could go to. Now let me break it down for you. Kevin and I have both brains and dueling experience. But since Dylan and Levi aren’t even in middle school, they still have to learn the basics. However, with my parents and us around, they know how to duel. We found our assigned seats and sat down. Above our seats were TV screens that displayed who dueled when at which battle center. It also kept track of the delays, if any.

Most of the duels had already completed their exams and were waiting for further instruction. Each grade can only have so many students and we were all accepted. To even make it to the duel exams, we had to complete the written test. Obviously we all passed. One duelist had lost and had made his way out of that duel center.

“Dude, looks like that guy aien’t gonna be joining us at the academy,” Kevin said confidently.

I didn’t respond. I was waiting for my chance to show everyone just what I was made of. But when I looked up at the screen I saw the name Ryan, but it wasn’t my name. It was Levi’s. He got up with a smile on his face while putting on his duel disk. He made his way down the steps giving everyone he saw a high five walking into the duel center. He turned on his duel disk and saw his opponent. It was a young man (about mid 20’s) with glasses.

“Well, Levi, get ready for your entrance exam. You may call me Professor Lang.”

Both duelists drew their cards and both players’ life points rose to 4000.

“Let’s duel,” they both shouted.
“As the challenger, you may go first Levi,” Lang said.

“That will be your first of many mistakes that will lead to your downfall. My move,” said Levi as he drew his first card. “I use the spell card Swords of Revealing Light and that will end my turn,”

“And you say that I make the mistakes. Please. My move. And a chance to show you real dueling. I summon out Warrior Dei Grepher in attack mode, (1700/1600)” said Lang. “Now I end my turn.”

“Back to me”, said Levi. “Seeing as how frustrated you get when I do nothing, I pass again,”

“I won’t be the one frustrated when I have to enroll in the public school again. But I will pass. Only two more turns before this duel is over.” said Lang.

“One card facedown ends my turn Lang.” said Levi

“I call another Warrior Dei Grepher to the field which ends my turn,” said Lang.

“One card down does it for me,” said Levi with a smile on his face.

“I sacrifice my two Dei Grepher’s to summon out Gilford, the Lightning.” Said Lang. “On my next turn, I’ll be free to attack and then you can say goodbye to enrolling into Pacific Academy.”

“There isn’t going to be a next turn for you Lang. For I plan to end this duel now. First I reveal my first face down card, Change of Heart. This card allows me to seize one of my opponent’s monsters for a turn. And even though it doesn’t matter, I’m gonna use Zera Ritual. Now I can sacrifice your Gilford to bring out Zera, the Mant (2800/2300). Next I normal summon Dark Zebra. And because your field is empty, I can attack your directly,” said Levi. “Go Zera and Dark Zebra, attack Lang directly. This duel is over,” (4000/0)

“That was a decent duel. However, I have a feeling that you had a very bad hand and if it weren’t for your Swords of Revealing Light, you would have lost this duel. And so, I enroll you in the dorms of Slifer Red. Oh, and when you go back up, send your brother Dylan in for his exam.” said Lang.

Levi went back to his assigned seat and told us about how he beat his exam proctor, but he was still enrolled in the Slifer Red Dorm. Which from a student’s point of view, it stinks, but in general he was right to send Levi to Slifer.

The only thing Dylan concentrated on that Levi had said was that he was the next duelist to take his exam. He loaded his shuffled deck into the deck recognition spot and walked down to the center. He was trying to play it like he was in the zone, but everyone could see that he was nervous. The three of us walked over to him and walked him down the rest of the way cheering him up and telling him that there was nothing to be nervous about. He walked into the Duel Center and we walked back to our seats. The exam proctor appeared with his duel disk on.

Like the last guy, this teacher looked like a typical citizen. No glasses, muscle shirt, jeans, and tattoos. They activated their duel disks and off they went.

“Incase you were wondering, Jones is the name. Now make your move,” said Jones. (4000/4000)
“I draw,” said Dylan. “I summon Mystic Tomato in attack mode (1400/1100). It’s your move,”

“I draw and summon Backup Gardna in defense mode (DEF: 2200). I end with Yellow Luster Shield. Incase you were wondering, this card gives all monsters that I play 300 defense points,” said Jones.

“Whatever, my turn again.” said Dylan. “I place two cards facedown and summon Malice Doll of Demise in attack mode (1600/1700). That ends my turn,”

“I sacrifice my monster to summon Berfomet (1400/1800). And it gains 300 defense points thanks to my shield (1400/2100). I equip my card with Dark Energy to give it 300 attack and defense (1700/2400). Now attack Mystic Tomato (3700/4000).” said Jones.

“Thank you, now I can activate my monster’s special ability and summon a dark type monster with 1500 points or less from my deck. Here we are. I choose to summon Goblin King in attack mode (0/0). Finish your move,” said Dylan.

“I am finished.” said Jones.

“I summon out Archfiend Soldier in attack mode (1900/1500)” said Dylan. “And now I activate my Goblin King’s special ability. For every fiend on my field not counting him, he gains 1000 attack points (2000/0). Your move,” said Dylan.

“All I’m gonna do is attack that little King of yours to get him out of my hair (3300/4000).” said Jones.

“You took the bait and now your gonna pay.” said Dylan. “I sacrifice my monsters to summon out Dark Magician (2500/2100). Go attack his monster with Dark Magic Attack (3300/3900).”

“Big Deal. I fuse my Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beasts and Berfomet in my hand together to form Chimera, the Flying Mythical Beast in attack mode (2100/1800).

“Not so fast, you activated my Trap Hole. Now your card gets a one way trip to the graveyard.” said Dylan.

“That does it for me,” said Jones.

“I summon Master Kyonshee in attack mode (1750/1000),” said Dylan. “Time to end this duel. Double Direct Attack (3300/0).”

“Not bad Dylan. However, you are still going to be attending the Slifer Dorm. I see that your brother also has this dorm and no room mate. I think I’ll be a nice guy and put you two down as room mates.” said Jones. “Oh and Dylan, send Kevin in for his exam. And welcome to the Academy.”

I saw Dylan leave the room and he had a smile on his face. I could tell that he had already won his match and was moving on to the academy. What I found out a minute later was that he was going to be rooming with Levi in the Slifer Dorm. Although the Slifer Dorm isn’t that bad, I really was hoping for Obelisk Blue because Kevin and I had scored highest on the written test. But with the way that things have been going so far, who knows.

Kevin and I walked down to the center and talked about how nice it would have been to finally gotten our exams over with and into the academy. He told me to keep the little ones in order and to cheer him on. The things that he had said were a no brainer. I walked back to the stands and sat down with my siblings as Kevin readied his deck for his match. Before him stood a man known as O. The reasoning behind his name is that he is so good, that in a real match, duelists don’t even get to say Oh No because their life point meter goes down to fast.

“Well kid, let’s get this over with.” said O. “As you should have caught on, you make the first move. So begin now,”
“I play one monster face down in defense mode and place two cards face down on the field,” said Kevin. “And that ends my turn.”

“That’s it kid? So be it. I summon Rogue Doll in attack mode (1600/1000). Attack his monster now.” said O.

“Good, because you just attacked Stone Statue of the Aztecs (300/2000). And when this card deals battle damage, the battle damage is doubled. So you lose 800 life points (4000/3200). Proceed.” said Kevin.

“One card face down ends my turn,” said O.

“I summon Archfiend Soldier in attack mode (1900/1500). Next I reveal the trap card Jar of Greed. Now I can draw one card from my deck. Now I activate the equip card Mage Power. My Archfiend gains 500 points for each spell and trap card I have in play. Get ready because I play one card face down (3400/3000),” said Kevin. “I attack you directly with my archfiend.”

“Did you really think I would let you attack my lifepoints and get away with it? I reveal the trap card Call of the Haunted. Now I can resurrect my Rogue Doll (1600/1000). So are you going to continue with your attack, or are you going to stand down like a little wimp?”

“Please. Go ahead and show them archfiend. Attack that Doll now (4000/1400).” said Kevin. “It’s your move. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

“With pleasure. I summon Giant Orc (2200/0). Although I can’t beat your Archfiend, I can still use this to weaken it. I play Mystical Space Typhoon. And you can probably guess what card I’m gonna get rid of. I choose Mage Power. That weakens it to 1900 again. Now attack!” said O.

“That is your downfall and my entrance into the academy. I reveal my face down trap card. Go Magic Cylinder. With this card, I can redirect your monsters attack straight for your lifepoints (4000/0). Looks like I win the duel O.” said Kevin.

“Very good dueling Kevin. I think you could actually take on my real deck. But that remains to be seen. Back to your dorm assignment. I here by assign you to the Ra Yellow dorm. Please return to your seat and send your last brother in for his examination.” said O as he left the duel center.

He returned to his seat and told me that it was my time to shine. I went down to the duel center and looked at the deck in my hand and the duel disk that was on my arm. I had complete trust in my deck and I was ready for anything. And I was going to need to be ready because I saw who my dueling opponent was. I looked up from my cards and saw Dr. Vellian Crowler.

“What is your name young duelist?” asked Crowler.

“Brian Erhardt sir,” I said.

“Well Brian, as you probably know, I’m Vellian Crowler. And just know that the only reason that I’m dueling you is that all the proctors had to catch a flight to the island and I am the only one not in a rush. So let’s begin this duel.” said Crowler.

I put the cards in my duel disk and turned it on. The duel had officially started as I drew my first hand.
“I draw the first of many cards that will lead to your downfall. And I shall prove it right now for I summon Sangan in defense mode (1000/600),” said Brian. “That ends my turn.”

“Not bad, but not as good as my Ancient Gear Soldier (1300/1300). Now I attack that thing that you call a monster,” said Crowler.

“Thank you, now I can add a monster with 1500 attack or less from my deck to my hand. And I think I’ll choose this little number. Now finish your move,” said Brian.

“That does it for me young scholar.” said Crowler.

“Looks like it’s my turn again,” said Brian. “I activate the spell card Double Summon. With this card, I am able to normal summon twice this round. Now I summon Solar Flare Dragon in defense mode (1500/1000), followed by Giant Germ, also in defense mode (1000/100). I end my turn with the card Dark Door. Now each player is only allowed one attack per round. And since I am ending my turn, my dragon’s effect activates dealing 500 points of direct damage (4000/3500).”

“I’m impressed. But it will take more than that to get passed me. I move in for the assault on your Giant Germ.” said Crowler.

“And you call yourself an expert duelist. When my Giant Germ is destroyed by battle, I get to summon another one from my deck. Actually, I could care less about that. What I care about is that I get to deal another 500 points of direct damage (4000/3000). Finish your move,” Brian said.

“I play Ancient Gear Castle which gives all Ancient Gear monsters 300 attack points (1600). That does it for me.” said Crowler.

“I place one card face down and summon yet another Sangan, in defense mode (1000/600). That’s all I can do for now.” said Brian with a smile on his face.

“If you think that your facedown card can save you, think again. My Ancient Gear monster makes it so you can’t activate any spell or trap cards when he attacks. So attack his Sangan!” said Crowler.

“Fine by me, I get another card from my deck.” said Brian. “Are you done yet?” asked Brian.

“Yes, you may go now.” replied Crowler.

“I summon yet another Giant Germ (1000/100). But that’s not all; I activate the spell Mask of the Accursed. And I plan on equipping it to your Ancient Gear Soldier. Now it can’t attack or defend you. Basically, it’s wasted space,” said Brian. “Oh, and every time your turn begins, you lose 500 life points. And speaking of losing 500 life points; my turn is ending, meaning my dragon’s effect activates once again (4000/2500). And since your turn now begins, my mask’s effect activates (4000/2000).”

“I like your tactics and now I have a time limit. I summon an Ancient Gear in defense mode (100/100). That ends my turn,” said Crowler.”

“Before I go, I activate the facedown trap card Coffin Seller. For every monster that goes to your graveyard, you lose 300 life points,” said Brian. “To start and end my turn I activate Gravekeeper’s Servant. Now every time you want to attack, you have to discard the top card of your deck. And now that my turn is over and yours is only beginning, you lose a total of 1000 lifepoints (4000/1000).” said Brian.

“I play Double Summon to summon another Ancient Gear. But it won’t be around for long because I sacrifice them both to summon Ancient Gear Golem (3300/3000). And yes I know the special effect of your trap card. I lose 600 lifepoints (4000/400). I attack with Mechanized Melee.” said Crowler.

“My spell card makes it so you have to send the top card of your deck to the graveyard. And it looks like a monster, causing you to lose another 300 lifepoints (4000/100).” said Brian.

“Your dragon is destroyed and you lose lifepoints equal to the difference from my golem’s attack, and your defense. In other words, you lose 2300 points (1700/100). It’s your move,” said Crowler.

“Good. I don’t even have to make a move. I pass. And seeing as how my mask takes away 500 lifepoints every round, it looks as though I win the duel. What rank do I receive?” asked Brian

“You are an excellent duelist. And so I will put you in the Ra Yellow seeing as how you’re a sophomore. You will room with Kevin Ryan.” said Crowler.

After we left the duel center, we went to the front desk to get our duel blazers and our plane ticket information. Next stop: PACIFIC ACADEMY
The dream of any young duelist was to obtain a plane ticket that would let you advance into the doors of Pacific Academy. And luckily for us, that dream was coming true for me and my brothers. We made our way off the plane with our luggage and walked up to the gates of the academy.

“So this is the great Pacific Academy. I can’t believe we are finally here,” said Kevin. “I have waited years to obtain entrance and now I can.”

We were all wearing our duel blazers; Levi and Dylan in red while Kevin and I were in yellow. When we first arrived we were instructed to go to the duel field. That is where all of the registrations were going on. Kevin and I stood in line for the Ra Yellow dorm and Dylan and Levi were in the Slifer Red line. There was tons of paperwork that had to be filled out as we saw from other duelists that were ahead of us. When we got to the front of the line, our mother, Janet, was there.

“Hello boys, what a pleasant surprise. Because you have me as your registration assigner, I already completed all of your registration forms and you are to head to your assigned room. There you will receive your schedule. I already peeked at yours and all of you have your father and I. Well, till then,” said Janet.

We met up with Dylan and Levi and on our way out Kevin just had to pick a fight on the first day of school. Some kid bumped into him and completely ignored Kevin. He must have been an upper classman. The three of us calmed Kevin down and took him outside.

We all traveled together until we came across the crossing where the road separated. We all said good-bye. Kevin and I reminded them to watch out for each other and that if they ever had any problems that we would be there to take care of them. We exchanged PDA numbers and took off. It was going to be an awesome school year and this was just the beginning.

We opened our dorm room and we each had our own computer and own bed. The room was huge and it was all ours.

“This room is immaculate,” said Kevin. “No wonder why mom and dad love teaching here every year.” chuckled Kevin.

We compared schedules with each other and then IMed Dylan and Levi. All of us had Dueling Basics 101 together because we were all new to the academy. The really cool thing was that Kevin and I had exactly the same schedule. And Dylan and Levi had the exact same schedule. Lunch period was when mom and dad wanted us to have our ‘family bonding moments’ that we would spend together. It would be cool to see them after so long.

After we checked out the dorm, we all met up and explored the island. The sites were amazing and the ocean was beautiful. After wandering around all day, we went to meet our dorm leader. And it turned out to be dad. We ate with him at his table and went up to bed. Tomorrow was going to be the very first day of school. I couldn’t wait.
Now I know that nobody likes the first day of school, but this year was different. We were attending a private academy that taught dueling. When my brothers and I met up in 1st period, we wondered how mom would differ from being a teacher and a parent. I guess there’s only one way to find out.

“Good morning class. My name is Mrs. Ryan. As your schedule probably told you, this is Dueling Basics 101.” she said. “And I know what you’re thinking. ‘Why do I have to take a basics class considering that I already passed the dueling exam and received an invitation into the academy?’ The truth of the matter is that it’s a requirement for teachers to teacher their students the basics of what they should have learned up until this point. Basically, it’s review.”

Mom looked straight at us when she said this.

“And I just happen to know four bright scholars that already know what I’m going to do and I know that they would love to volunteer to come up here. At this time would those four boys come down here please.” said Mom.

All four of us came down with our duel disks on. We knew that she was going to have us compete in a four way duel. As you can probably tell, this isn’t the first time she has done this. Every weekend, we would do this to improve our dueling skills against harder opponents. We activated our duel disks and drew our cards.

“Ah, glad to see you guys still know the routine. Now that’s a Ryan.” said mom.

All the other kids started talking once they realized that we were her and Mr. Ryan’s kids. Just as always, I began the duel.

“I activate Double Summon so that I can normal summon two monsters this turn. And I choose to summon two Solar Flare Dragon’s in attack mode (1500/1000),” I said. “And to end my turn I activate Dark Door. Now no player can attack more than once. And as everyone should know, at the end of the turn, my dragon inflicts 500 life points. What do you know, I have two dragons. Say good bye to 1000 lifepoints (4000/3000/3000/3000)”

I didn’t want to show off the other cards in my deck so that the entire class would know my deck list. So I just tried to repeat my cards as I knew most of my brothers would.

“My turn,” said Dylan. “I activate Call of the Mummy. Now that I have an empty field, I can special summon a zombie type monster from my hand. As you guys are probably familiar with, I summon two Red Moon Babies in defense mode (700/1000). Your move Levi.”

“It’s about time. I activate Zera Ritual,” said Levi. “And once again I summon Zera the Mant. That ends my turn.”

Levi was always the quickest in the family, but he really didn’t think his moves all the way through. He forgot that there are four duelists in this duel, not just two.

“I’m gonna end this duel. I activate three copies of Tremendous Fire. Now you guys will lose 3000 life points while I lose 1500. Take that (1000/0/0/1500),” said Kevin. “And don’t think I forgot about you Brian, I activate two copies of Goblin Thief. Basically, I steal 1000 lifepoints and add them to mine. This duel’s over (0/2500).”

“Very good Kevin, you managed to win the duel. As you know, that means you get a raise in your allowance,” said mom. “Wow, will you look at the time. I want everyone to write a one page essay on how each duelist could have improved their moves with the amount of cards that they had in their hands. And in the final paragraph, tell me what your opening move would have been. Class dismissed.”

“Go figure mom would have given us homework on the first day of school,” said Kevin as we walked out of the classroom.

“I heard that Kevin,” said mom coming up behind us. “Have fun in your father’s class you two and see you at lunch.”

We waved goodbye and everyone was staring at us in the halls because we were the teacher’s kids. We didn’t care. We knew how to take care of our own if we had to. We were brothers and that’s all that matters. Kevin and I took it easy the next couple of periods and just tried to focus real hard and take really good notes. Our classes were really close together and our professors were really nice. When we got to dad’s class, he said his hi’s and during class, an Obelisk came into the classroom and down to our dad with two passes. He called us down. They were notes to go to the principal’s office. He told us to take our stuff and that he would fill us in on what we did in class.

“Great, I was hoping to miss out on a little work,” I told Kevin.

“I know; I wonder what we did. It’s only the first day of school.

We arrived in the principal’s office and the secretary told us to take a seat and he would be right with us. A couple of minutes later, Dylan and Levi walked in with the same passes. Something was up.
“What are you guys doing here?” asked Kevin.

“I was about to ask you guts the same thing,” said Dylan. “We got a note from some Obelisk Blue dude to come here.”

“Same here. I wonder what he wants with us,” said Levi. “I mean, it’s only the first day and yet here we sit waiting for the principal.”

I had a feeling that something wasn’t right and that we were in for a rude awakening. The secretary showed us in the door and there was nobody in the room. We sat on the sofa waiting for the principal. The four of us felt weird, like there were eyes on us. After a couple of minutes, the ground began to disappear. The room was being shrouded in darkness. We were no longer in the principal’s office. Heck, I don’t even know if we were in the same dimension. Then we heard a voice say something.

“So these are four of the five guardians he was talking about,” said the voice. “If only they knew the extent of their abilities. Too bad there is nothing they can do to stop me.”

Then there was a second voice.

“What shall we do with them sire? Send them back to their own world or have a little fun with them first. Or we could just send them to the dungeon while we have control over them” squeaked the second voice.

“I want to defeat the guardians when they’re good and healthy. Send them back to their own world. I’m sure their parents will explain everything.” said the first voice.

And before we knew it we were back in the principal’s office. Only this time, there sat the principal at his desk like he was expecting us to pop out of nowhere.

“So you must be the Ryan Brothers. I know that this isn’t the warmest welcome you could have gotten entering the academy, but there really wasn’t any other way. Hi, I’m your principal Dean Lowl. I know that you have questions but they will have to wait until lunch. When the bell rings, return here. Don’t worry about missing lunch with your parents, they will be here too.” said Lowl.

He wrote us passes back to class but before we could return, the bell rung dismissing for lunch. We walked all the way back to his office where our parents sat. What had started as a beautiful day was turning into a disaster. Mr. Lowl directed us to sit down and start eating the lunch that was prepared. On the table sat our favorite, chicken cutlet with mac and cheese. It was obviously a home cooked meal that was usually for dinner. I could tell that this was going to be a long meeting. Kevin already figured that out and released a little of his uncontrollable anger.

“What were those voices that we heard? Why did you call us down here?” asked Kevin.

He would have asked more, but I acted before my parents could say anything.

“Just sit Kevin,” I told him. “We might as well listen to what they have to say. It’s the least that they can do. Just let’s eat and calm down.”

“I refuse to calm down.” he said.

That’s when his stomach growled really loud that even the secretary could hear outside the door.

“Fine, I guess I’ll sit down for lunch. But after lunch, I want answers.” demanded Kevin.

We all sat in silence enjoying the meal as best as we could. The silence was broken when mom finally asked a typical mom question.

“Are you guys alright? It wasn’t our intentions to put you through that experience without explaining it to you. But the force was too great and they got to you before we could.”

I spoke for the group.

“We’re fine mom. You could have told us on the phone that something bigger than us was going on. And by the way, what is going on?” I asked.

“It’s kind of hard to explain. Don’t think that we’re crazy when we tell you this, but you have to save the world.” replied mom.

“Aw come on, do you really expect us to believe that? We’re not kid’s mom.” said Kevin.

Kevin was rewarded with a smack upside the head by my father for his response.

“What was that for dad?” asked Kevin.

Frank didn’t have a smile on his face.

“Don’t you ever talk to your mother like that. If you want to settle it, settle it with me” said dad as he took out his duel disk.

“You wanna take me on? No contest.” said Kevin. “But I do accept. And when I win, we get the truth and the respect that we truly deserve.”

“When you lose this duel, you’ll realize that you have the respect that you deserve. Let’s duel.” said dad.

Kevin and dad drew their cards and stepped to opposite sides of the room as we finished eating.

“As the elder, I’ll go first,” said dad. “I summon X-Head Cannon in attack mode (1800/1500). That ends my turn.”

“Good, now it’s my turn,” said Kevin. “I activate two spell cards: Poison of the Old Man and Goblin Thief. First is Goblin Thief. I steal 500 of your lifepoints (4500/3500). Time for the old man. There are two potions. I choose one, and the effect activates. I choose the first one, which means you lose 800 lifepoints (4500/2700). I summon a monster in defense mode and activate Dark Snake Syndrome. Now during each of my stand-by phases, we each lose 200 lifepoints. Every time it activates, we multiply the damage by two. Your move!” announced Kevin.

“I draw,” said dad. “I summon Drilloid in attack mode (1600/1600). Next comes the equip spell, Fairy Meteor Crush. When my Cannon attacks a monster in defense mode, the difference in my attack and your defense, is dealt as direct damage. I attack with my Cannon.”

“You flip-summoned my Gravekeeper’s Curse, dealing 500 points of direct damage, but your attack still hits (3500/2200).” said Kevin.

“I still have Drilloid. Direct attack (1900/2200). With one card facedown, I end my turn.” said dad.

We were in amazement that not only was dad keeping up with Kevin, but he was winning as well. But as all of us knew, dad still have his legendary beast waiting to be released from the bowels of his deck.

“My move,” said Kevin. “Since it’s my stand-by phase, we both lose 200 lifepoints (1700/2000). I end with Swords of Revealing Light and a facedown card.”

“You made a fatal mistake. You left your swords unprotected. My move.” said dad. “I play Power Bond to fuse the three Cyber Dragon’s in my hand to form Cyber End Dragon (4000/2800). And because I fusion summoned it with Power Bond, its attack points double for the turn (8000). I activate the card Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your Swords. Now I can attack you directly. GO, triple stridden blaze.”

“Sorry dad, but even though my swords are destroyed, I still have Negate Attack. Just as the card says I negate all attacks and end the battle phase. Looks like your lose this duel, huh dad?” said Kevin.

“What’s he talking about Brian? Dad still has all of his lifepoints.” asked Levi.

“Yes but now that dad can’t attack; he is probably going to end his turn. Even if he plays another card, he can’t wipe out Kevin’s lifepoints this turn. If you remember the Power Bond card that dad played to get his Cyber End Dragon out onto the field, while it is true that it doubles the fused monster’s attack points. However, at the end of the turn that it’s used, that played loses lifepoints equal to the original attack points; for a grand total of 4000.” I replied.

“Looks like you are the true guardian,” said dad as he was hit with the effect of Power Bond, bringing him to his knees.
“So wait, this was all a test” asked Kevin.

“Yes and no. I did want to test your abilities, but you should also respect your mother.” replied dad.

Inside my head, my brain was spinning round and round. There was just too much going on to handle. And I had a pretty good feeling that things weren’t going to get easier from here.

“If you two are through with your debate, I would like to finish meeting before the end of lunch.” said Principal Lowl. “As you probably heard from your dad before you lost, you guys are four guardians. And before you even ask, there are ten guardians in total. Four of those people are still unknown while the other two are your parents.”

Both mom and dad took out medallions that they had been wearing under their shirt. When I looked back at our principal he held four more of those medallions in his hand.

“These are yours to keep,” continued Lowl. “Keep this in mind. If you ever lose a duel to one of the evil guardians trying to conquer the world, you will lose your medallion and your spot as a guardian. If all ten guardians are ever defeated, then the evil force gets what it wants.”

This was beginning to sound pretty dangerous. I mean, we don’t even know how many evil guardians there are. In a normal fight you would imagine equal to or fewer players. However, this isn’t a normal fight. For all we know, there could be hundreds of duelists that we have to take down.

“There is a leader that you must defeat, but he is shrouded by nine of his loyalist minions. Those are the evil guardians that you must defeat. Once you defeat them, only the head master remains. I do wish that I had time to explain what was going on but I don’t.” said Lowl.

He handed us a schedule change. The only thing that was changed was our last class. He switched it for an off period. He told us to head to the card shop to buy cards (after giving us enough money to basically rebuild our deck and buy a couple of sandwiches for a snack for later.

When we arrived at the card shop, the card shop owner was generally nice. But then again, he could have just wanted us to spend the money that we had. We each ended up buying ten packs. We didn’t want to open them. We decided to head back our room because Levi and Dylan said that their room was basically a ‘Roach Motel’.

We entered our room and the two little ones had the same exact expression that we did when we saw the huge room. We quickly calmed them down and got down to business. We opened the packs and smiled profusely. Although most of the cards we had applied to our own deck, some of them applied to one of our brothers deck. It was a total win for us as we traded cards and then we layed out our decks on the floor. We had a process when doing this at home. We would all go stand by one brother’s deck as long as it wasn’t our own. Then for two minutes, we would take notes on any card we didn’t think belonged or if we thought of a card that would make a great edition to their deck. Afterwards, we would compare notes.

However, this time was different. We wanted to ensure that we would have no flaws in our decks and that we would be unstoppable. And so we did this for the next hour and a half. Once finished, we collapsed on the beds frustrated that we didn’t know what would happen next. Kevin sat up and was hungry.

“Let’s get something to eat. I can’t duel on an empty stomach.” he said.

We went to the cafeteria in our dorm. The others pigged out while I barely touched my food. Dylan notices and shoved the fork full of food into my mouth.

“You need to eat. You’re not going to be at your best if you can barely stay awake.” he said.

“Yeah, but you didn’t have to shove a fork in my mouth. That could have killed me.” I replied.

“Maybe, but I highly doubt that you would have swallowed it.” he said.

I eventually forgave him and we got up and left. Dylan and Levi went to their dorm while Kevin and I went back to our room. Now here’s the thing. I like the room freezing cold and Kevin doesn’t. So in the middle of the night, once he’s asleep, I put and electric blanket on him, and then turn down the thermostat down to 65 degrees. I also am the one to wake him up in the morning so I can just bring things back to the way they were before. I shut off the air conditioner, shut off the alarm clock, and woke up Kevin. While he was waking up, I hopped in the shower.

It was what I saw when I got out that scared me. I came out in shorts and a white t-shirt. There was a man standing with Kevin all tied up wearing a black veil across their mouth and a black hood covering their head. He was wearing a duel disk on his arm. But it was a different style then what we had on. It was blue and had a green seal around the rim of the life point counter.

He turned on his duel disk as did I and we drew our five cards into our hands.

“DUEL,” we both said.
“Get ready to lose,” said the mysterious duelist. “I begin with the field spell Seal of Alignment. This personally made card prevents any duelist from escaping this duel. Also, this card cannot be destroyed once activated. The fun part is about to come. But first, I should tell you that every monster that I play gains 500 attack points and defense points, while every monster you play loses 500 attack and defense points. Plus, the loser of the duel will lose their soul to the eternal darkness.”

On a normal basis, I would have thought this guy was crazy, but for the last couple of days, I wasn’t sure of anything.

“Now I summon Stone Statue of the Aztecs (300/2000) in defense mode. Now the seal gives it 500 points (800/2500). I activate Yellow Luster Shield to end my turn,” said the unknown man. “This card gives all monsters I play 300 defense points (2800).”

“About time,” I told the man. “I activate the spell card Pot of Greed. Now I can draw two more cards. I set one card face down and one monster face down in defense mode. That ends my turn.”

“The end is near for you guardian. I draw only to end my turn,” said the duelist.

“I draw. I flip Big Eye into attack mode (1200/1000).” I said.

“My seal activates adjusting your monsters stats (700/500).” he said.

“Either way, now his ability activates which allows me to rearrange the top five cards of my deck in any order that I wish.” I said. “I play Swords of Revealing Light to stop you from attack for three whole turns. And with that, I end my turn.”

“I activate Infinite Cards after activating Graceful Charity. Incase you haven’t realized, the card let’s me draw three cards as long as I send two cards to the graveyard. That ends my turn.” said the duelist.

“Good. I draw,” I said. “I activate the spell card Cup of Ace. Look at the image above,” I said while pointing to a hologram of the card. “This card will continue to turn sideways and over and all of that. When you tell it to stop, it will display the card face up or facedown. If face up, I draw two cards, and other option, you draw two cards.”

The card spun round and round. I tried to look confident while waiting but did a crummy job of it. He finally said stop and when the card turned around, it was displayed facedown. That meant that he drew two cards. He was happy about that as was I.

“I switch Big Eye to defense mode and that will do for now.” I said.

“I place two cards face down and end my turn,” said the duelist. “Two more turns and then I will be free to attack.”

“I activate yet another Cup of Ace. This time I am granted two cards,” I said.

I had drawn the exact card that I needed. My only hope to winning was that this mystery duelist did what I wanted. There was only one way to find out.

“I set one monster face down in defense mode and one card face down. That will due for now,” I said.

The only thing that I could do was wait for him to take the bait. I wouldn’t be long now.

“I activate the spell card Shield Crush. With the power of this spell card, I can destroy one monster that’s hiding in defense mode. Get ready, I activate Spell Absorption. Every time one of us activates a spell card, I gain 500 life points. I end with Swords of Revealing Light. And what do you know, that happens to be a spell card. I now gain 500 life points (4000/4500). I end with Stone Statue of the Aztecs in defense mode. That ends my turn,” said the mystery duelist.

There was no way I was going to let him win. All I had to do was believe in my cards and hope that I draw the right card. I drew the card and looked at it. This wasn’t the card that I needed, but it would help both of us.

“I activate the spell card Dark Door.” I said out loud. “As long as this card is on the field, both players can only attack once per round. And before you even say something I know that you life points rise by another 500 points due to the effect of your spell card (4000/5000).”

“It’s your choice. In the end, it will be I that will walk out of here with your soul and your guardian medallion.” replied the mystery duelist.

“I summon Gear Golem, the Moving Fortress in defense mode (800/2200).” I had said.

“And now for the effects of the Seal of Alignment. Your monster loses 500 points in each mode (300/1700). Proceed.” he said.

“I will with Exchange. Now you take a card from my hand and I take a card from yours.” I said. “I think I’ll take this one.”

“It won’t help you. But I’ll take this one.” he replied.

“I activate The Shallow Grave. With the power of this card, we are each allowed to bring back one monster from the graveyard. I choose to resurrect my Des Koala (1100/1800). And from the looks of it you bring back your Stone Statue of the Aztecs discarded from your Graceful Charity card. Now for the facedown card Coffin Seller. Every time a monster is sent to your graveyard you lose 300 life points.” I said. “I activate Double Summon. I can now summon two cards this turn. Before I get to that, I play the card I received from you, Fiend Sanctuary. I get a metal fiend token now. And now I sacrifice all three monsters on my field in order to summon Gilford the Lightning. When I sacrifice three monsters to summon him, he destroys all monsters on my opponents field. And from the looks of it, you have three. And when a monster of yours is sent to the graveyard, you lose 300 life points. Now attack him directly Gilford (4000/2300).”

He had me with that darn Spell Absorption spell. Every time a spell was activated, he gained 500 life points. To pull off the move that I did gave him 500 life points. I could only imagine what it would take to make this life point meter read 0.
"Don't you realize that this duel is over?" asked the hooded duelist. "But if you want to keep playing pathetic cards it's fine by me. I play another Gear Golem, the Moving Fortress in defense mode (800/200). And thanks to the effect of Seal of Allignment, my card gains 500 attack and defense points (1300/2700). That ends my turn."

This guy was really starting to irritate me and I was done. This duel was going to end right here and right now.

"Watch out because here I come," I said. "I activate Shield Crush to destroy your monster. And yes I know you gain life points (4000/2800). But with my Axe of Despari, Gilford gains 1000 attack (3300). And since that's another spell card, that's 500 points for you to equal your life points with my monsters attack points. And with no face down cards to stop me, Gilford the Lightning, wipe out his life points for good."

Gilford attacked the unknown man with his sword and the duel was over. But when the light from the attack was gone, so was the guy that attacked us. Right away I went over to Kevin to see if he was hurt. He was fine but that worried me. Why would someone sneak into our room and then just disappear when he lost. Could it be that some of what he was telling me during our duel was true... that he lost his sould when he lost. My head was spinning round and round with tons of possibilities. And that's when I decided to call mom and dad. They told me to finish getting ready and to meet them in the Principal's Office. There wasn't going to be any class today, but rather lots of hard work and preperation.

We met up with Dylan and Levi and told them what happened. We went back with them to their dorm so that they could put their stuff down and that we could get on with our daily mission. We left everything but our decks and our duel disks. Now everytime we moved or flinched, we thought we were being watched. And to tell you the truth, I was hating that we didn't know the whole story.

When we got to the meeting location we were told to go to the board room for a meeting. I could already tell this was going to be a long day. When we got there, everyone that I knew was supossed to be there. On the projector, there was a picture of a man with a black robe and hood on, like the guy that I had dueled earlier this morning.

"Brian, did the man you faced wear what this guy was wearing?" asked dad.

"Yeah, but it wasn't this guy," I replied.

"Then we have less time then we thought," said the principal. "They are already on the island. that doesn't give us as much time as I had hoped for, but we'll make due."

I had almost no idea what they were talking about. Only, before the guy I dueled disappeared, he said "You had better watch out because there are others way stronger then me and would have no problem diong things way worse then what I have done to the two of you.

We weren't even a half hour into this meeting and already I needed a break. I shut my eyes and....

No, this is not my first fan fic... for ycm it is though. And I only put the paragraphs like because I was told that makes it easier to read. Chapter 2 is now up

CHAPTER 2

Well you want it, you got it. Here is the beloved Chapter 3. Let me know what you think and enjoy.

CHAPTER 3

I have and I love it. Although I only joined as a member this morning, I have read it over the past couple weeks. AWESOME. And thanks for the comment. Also, since I have earned a new potential reader, here is chapter 4.

CHAPTER 4

I have and I love it...

sweet. feel free to comment sometime. the new chapter is good. you might think about making them a bit longer though, just because many people prefer that.

and by format, i think he means making paragraphs more obvious. people usually leave a blank line between paragraphs to separate them, since you can't indent in the forum.

i used to do the same thing' date=' but decided to come up with the duels myself so that i could make them more dramatic. though for early moves or less important duels, i will play them out myself. most of the decks i use are decks that i've actually built.

[/quote']

Same... but I find it more fun to duel personally... and if I don't like it, I change it
