First download these scripts and place them in the scripts folder in gimp,

If you don't know where that is, Follow these steps,

1.Goto My Computer > Local Disk C > Program Files > Gimp 2.0 > Share > Gimp > 2.0 > Scripts.
2. Drag the scripts to the script folder.

Do the same with this font except place this font in My Computer > Local Disk C > Windows > FONTS,

Step 1. Start out with a 640x400 Image.

Step 2. Use a simple gradient to make a background.*NOTE: DO NOT MAKE THE BACKGROUND WHITE OR BLACK OR THIS WILL NOT WORK!*

Step 3. Use the toonish font I provided and make it any color you want.

Step 4. Use the script bevel and emboss I provided on the text layer, Use the default settings except make size 1, Then hide the original text layer and you got a transparent text.

Step 5. Right click on your original text layer and select alpha to selection, Then make a new layer, Grab your rectangle tool and on dockable press the third mode, Then select the lower part of your text (Not all of it), Get the gradient tool, change the foreground to white and choose the gradient fg to transparent, Then drag to the bottom to the top of the selected layer, Now select none, Goto your original text layer and go to filters > Light and shadow drop shadow. Set the offset x and y to 0, Change the blur radius to 100 and select the color black and ok. Select the original text layer and select alpha to selection, Now go back to the drop shadow layer and go to Select > Grow, Then grow it by 1 pixel(s) Then get the eraser tool and erase all over the text.
