Apparently the life lost by IoT's effect is sort of like a cost rather than effect damage (a distinction I hate with a passion), so Barrel cannot redirect it (stupid).

 

Also, since IoT's effect activates when he's sent to the graveyard, the OWNER of the card takes the life loss, rather than the opponent.

 

I think the official yu-gi-oh people need to change these rulings. They don't really make sense. I wouldn't mind if my opponent got to use the effect of MY sangan that he controled when it dies. I think that when a card is being sent to the graveyard, that's the last instant that it still "belongs" to whomever was controlling it.
