I'm making a game from Kongregate's Shootorials and I'm getting near the end, so I want you to tell me what you think and what stuff I should add (you'll have to download it, then open it with browser of choice). The file is only 21KB so it won't take up much space (or slightly more for the later versions). Edit: With the coming of V5 you can now play online, as I found a good new uploading site.

Yeah' date=' sure you get to blast spaceships apart, but it's still kinda boring. Add like some upgards, like faster shooting or something, if yu know how.

Hmm yeah it could work, but I can't save it so they'd be like powerups. Any upgrade suggestions other than faster shooting?

More powerful shots (For bosses)' date=' faster movement, stronger shields, etc. Also, maybe add some obstacles, like asteroids or soemthing, so it isn't only ships.

Well the main boss does have more powerful shots. Faster movement could work. However, because of the way it's set up (infinite barrage of enemies split up by mini-bosses and bosses), I'm not going to add any stronger shields or health power-ups. I'm don't think the game's hard enough to justify replacing ships with non-shooting asteroids, and I'm not sure if it's easy enough to add more asteroids than ships (because it would be weird if enemy ships were common and asteroids were rare).

 

So for the moment I'll just work on faster movement and faster shooting. Got any suggestions on how you'd actually pick up the powerups, and how they'd appear? The two possibilities I can think of are:

a) Appear randomly every minute or so.

b) Instant random power-up for killing about 20 ships.

Would you prefer one of these, or do you have another suggestion?

Even hitting the main boss doesn't do anywhere near that much damage. I just don't like the concept of OHKO's for this game. Also do you reckon it should be time-based or enemy-based? If time-based then how much do you think it should be randomized?

I say time based, like once every 2 mins, so the game can still go on for a while.

2 minutes for power-ups? I think that's a bit long.

Quick edit: Wait, how much faster do you think you'll move / shoot bullets, and how long do you think it'll last? Maybe we're thinking differently.

Well how much % were you thinking of increasing the speed of bullets / the player? If you're thinking more than I am then maybe 2 minutes would work better.

 

I dunno, for bullet speed, I was thinking one upgarde, which doubled the speed. As for player, I dunno, maybe 20-30% per upgrade?

I was thinking upgrades that worked for about 15 seconds. The bullet thing would probably make it able to fire 3 bullets a second instead of 2, and the player I was thinking an extra 50% movement speed. Who's idea do you like better?

Okay I'll try testing it with 15 seconds and 30. If neither are just right then I'll try 20 and 25.

...well, once I code in the power-ups, which is the hard part. Once I have the system in place adding new power-ups and things would be a lot easier. I'll start with faster bullets and add speed-moving later.

More enemies will be unlikely. I might add a superboss or something in later versions but it would probably take a bit of work. I've tried modified looks for other things and they don't really fit in. Any ideas for more powerups?
