Smackdown Vs Raw 2010

[spoiler=Summary:]

While existing features like create-a-wrestler and create-a-finisher have received important upgrades, the big news for creative types will be the design-a-story mode. Using what looks to be a flexible set of tools, you'll be able to unleash your inner Vince McMahon (or, if you're evil, your inner Vince Russo) and design broadcasts of RAW, SmackDown, and ECW from the ground up. This is much more than just an extension of GM mode from a few years ago--you'll have control of everything: matches that appear in your show, backstage fights, interviews galore, and even the words each Superstar speaks will be from your specific script.

Using a variety of preset choices that you can edit to your heart's content, you can create scenarios that will make up your individual weekly show. Create a slow-building feud between two Superstars; build a love story between your created wrestler and your favorite WWE Diva; or go completely nuts and feature an entire show that is nothing but Triple H screaming nursery rhymes at the crowd from the middle of the ring. It's up to you.

When setting up a show, you'll have the choice to create either a scene or a match. Creating a match is straightforward--you'll be able to choose from any of the available match types in the game, set the competitors, and set any specific win conditions. Creating scenes takes a bit more work, and you'll have complete control over the scene, including the setting which can include backstage antics with exploding cars, to more traditional sequences featuring interviews between WWE announcers and talent. There's even a luminous white background that looks like something out of a hallucination, perfect for creating a dreamscape for your favorite sleepy Superstar.

Once you've got a setting and some general action points added in (in one backstage scene, for example, you can cause the star of the scene to get hit by a speeding car), you'll have the ability to add text to your scene, which will appear on the bottom of the screen. There's a character limit you'll need to be mindful of, but from what we saw, there's plenty of room to get a decent amount of back and forth going. Reading text instead of hearing the voices of the wrestlers feels a bit retro, but considering that you can write anything you want, the novelty factor probably outweighs the lack of voice acting.

While you can choose from anyone on the SVR 2010 roster to star in your original stories, why not use a Superstar of your own creation? Create-a-wrestler is nothing new in the SmackDown series, but like so many of the creation tools in this year's game, it has been expanded and improved into something better. There's a ton of new fully 3D-modeled apparel for your wrestler--no more painted-on ties or shirts, for example. If you put a robe or jacket on your created star, the fabric will move realistically. There's also plenty of variety--just in headgear alone we saw everything from traditional luchadore masks to eyeless hoods, samurai headgear, and even a giant chicken head. All of it looks like great fun to experiment with, but to our eyes, the best feature of the "new" CAW was the speedy menus; the developers at Yuke's have spent time on improving the loading time in screens--so the long delays while waiting for parts to load up in the CAW menu look to be a thing of the past. For existing WWE Superstars, there's a "Superstar Threads" tool to customize their outfits--such as changing up the colors of Rey Mysterio Jr.'s masks and ring attire to something completely of your choosing.

Create-a-finisher, introduced in last year's game, has seen its own share of improvements. THQ producers told us there is about 30 percent more content in the standard front grapple finishers, as well as an entirely new category of finishers, this time from the top rope. As with the standard finishers, you create your top-rope finisher by stringing together a bunch of separate animations, the taunt you use to start things off, the dismount off the top rope, any flips or kicks you perform in the air, and finally your crunching landing on the mat. You can even make minor adjustments to animation speed and jump trajectory to create just the kind of move you're looking for.

Enveloping all of these enhanced creation modes is the idea of sharing online. Anything you create in SVR 2010--be it your favorite create-a-wrestler, your insane top-rope finishing move, or your epic series of RAW episodes--will be able to be uploaded and shared with the online world. You will be able to rate content you download too, allowing the best content (and its respective creators) to rise to the top--and you'll be able to add tags to your creations for easy browsing purposes. In essence, THQ is blowing out online content and every SmackDown fan is a potential contributor.

Elsewhere in the game, the developers are throwing a bone to players who might have been away from the SmackDown series for a while with an interactive tutorial that will provide a primer of sorts for the sometimes complex controls that are part of the game. You can use whomever you want in the ring, and you can choose to play either solo or against a friend. As you move around the ring, pop-ups will appear onscreen with instructions on how to pull off different context-sensitive maneuvers--for instance, which types of moves will be available to you in a front grapple or what you can do when moving on the apron. In all, there are more than 100 training tips available, and you can choose to play the tutorial with several AI settings--including the AI turned completely off, if you like

Glad you posted that lol, I'm mentioned even when I'm not around.

It's gunna be goddamn sick, and I can't wait for it. It's a SVR game, so I shouldn't get too pumped for it or I'll be setting myself up for disappointment. :P

Can't wait to get some Storyline's going and post them here too.

Lol @ me bumping a thread that isn't mine.

Anyway, I have ALOT of good to say about this game... well, I did until I found out some bad news. It could be a typo, and I'm really hoping so, but yeah. MikeGamingRing has a version of the game for reviewing, and he posted on his twitter something like 'you can only use created superstars 10 times in a storyline'. He hasn't mentioned it since, so I'm really hoping it's just an error on his part (especially considering the Screenshots and THQ say we're allowed 10 Created Superstar's in a Story and in a Q&A they even said 30 Superstar's are allowed in a Story before).

In other bad news, Hurricane Helms, Zack Ryder and the Hart Dynasty didn't make the cut. However, we now have 'Green Dummy' and 'Red Dummy' as unlockable characters... wtf? I'd rather have Tony and the Masked Man, at least they could have been used as realistic characters in Storyline Designer. Also, although the Royal Rumble and TLC matches have been improved, they're the only one's that have. MikeGamingRing also said that 'the HIAC match is pretty much the same', which luckily does indicate some change the match. Hopefully it'll be bigger and have weapons in it.

Anyway, I just thought I'd post some bad news about the game, considering all I've been hearing is good news... this game will definitely be the best yet, but I've gotta hype it down a bit from all the good hype it's getting. I'm hoping SVR11 will bring changes like return of the I Quit, Special Ref and Casket matches, new matches such as the Punjabi Prison and Stretcher Match, improvements of current matches like HIAC, Ladder and Steel Cage matches, return of Create-a-Belt and major improvements and expansion on Storyline Designer. I'm also hoping for Career Mode to be replaced with an improved HCTP Season Mode, but that's highly unlikely.

Also the improvements to the Royal Rumble seem cool as well as the addition of Scramble matches.

Oh and the rivals/allies feature looks awesome.

Yeah, I agree.

The rivals/allies feature (that I believe was taken from a previous WWE N64 game) looks good, it's just a shame it can only be used in Exhibition.

Found out the list of RtWMs, and I have to say sounds pretty decent.

"Road to WrestleMania mode isn't new to SVR 2010--but the mode has been expanded this year to be more full featured than ever before. There are more storylines that feature some of the biggest stars in the WWE, including a Diva storyline, a story for your created wrestler, and a two-person storyline that can either be played solo or with a friend in a mix of cooperative and competitive gameplay. Here's a quick look at the WWE superstars and their storylines:

Edge Scenario: When the SmackDown general manager position is opened up by Mr. McMahon, Edge manipulates things so that his girlfriend, WWE Diva Maria, is installed at the position. With the GM in his pocket, the ultimate opportunist begins wreaking havoc in the ring and backstage, much to the chagrin of Mr. Kennedy.

Randy Orton Scenario: The Legend Killer forms an early alliance with his familiar posse--Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes--and begins a feud with two of the biggest, baddest superstars around: The Undertaker and Kane. At one point, Orton battles it out with The Undertaker in a hell-in-a-cell match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Mickie James Scenario: The first Road to WrestleMania Diva storyline features Mickie refusing to take part in a bikini contest (boo!). When Maryse steps into the ring and threatens her, Mickie gives her a slap (yay!), and it's on. With appearances by such WWE Divas as Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, and Natalya, as well as a Diva Rumble during the Royal Rumble, this one is the best-looking storylines (at least in terms of competitors) of them all.

CAW Scenario: As with all the other Road to WrestleMania storylines, the story featuring your created wrestler is fully voice acted (you'll choose a voice for your wrestler when you create him). Early on in the CAW storyline, you'll face off against the one and only Santino, who calls you out as you're watching one of his matches in the audience. After teaching Santino a lesson in the ring, your goal becomes not just to keep the Intercontinental belt you won, but also to earn an actual legitimate contract in the WWE. But Mr. McMahon will have a thing or two to say about that...

Shawn Michaels Scenario: The Heartbreak Kid forms an early alliance with CM Punk, while JBL and Randy Orton look to test the wrestler known as Mr. WrestleMania. If you think "Sweet Chin Music" will be played multiple times, you're absolutely right.

Triple H / John Cena Scenario: Mr. McMahon is looking to set up a cross-brand rivalry between Raw and SmackDown! by pitting its two champions against one another. You can play this storyline solo or try it with a friend. One person will play as The Game and the other as John Cena with the pair looking to take on the combined forces of Chris Jericho and MVP. The Miz and John Morrison also make an appearance in this storyline, offering their unique analysis on Cena and Triple H via The Dirt Sheet.

Regardless of which storyline you play, you'll occasionally run into mandatory and optional goals in the matches you play. With a mandatory goal, you must complete that objective in order to move forward in a particular storyline; completing optional goals will earn you cool unlockables, such as new characters to play as or alternate costumes. These goals run the gamut from simply beating an opponent within an allotted period of time to slightly more elaborate objectives, such as making sure each of your opponents in a tag match receives your wrestler's finishing move twice.

Most of the goals and matches take place in the ring, naturally, but there are a couple of backstage encounters. During one scene in Vince's office, Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson look to teach you a lesson, and while you fight them off, the goal is to create as much damage as possible to Vince's office. You'll do this mainly by bouncing Vlad and Zeke off any of 10 hotspots in the room, including a Mr. McMahon-shaped bust, a couple of bookshelves, and a television set.

Every once in a while, you'll encounter a sequence in which you have a choice to make (such as whether to respond to one character or another) but, for the most part, the storylines in Road to WrestleMania mode are pretty linear and straightforward. That said, there are some great moments, including at least one jab at videogame fans that had me chuckling. Naturally, there's a backstage hub for the mode where you can do things like save your game, grab voicemails from other WWE Superstars and, in the case of your created wrestler, alter his outfit slightly.

When playing Road to WrestleMania with your created wrestler, you'll be earning attribute points as you go. The better you perform in a match, the more points you'll have to put toward such attributes as strength, speed, grappling, charisma, and more. In fact, whenever you play with your created wrestler in SVR 2010, you'll have an opportunity to earn these attribute points, which is a great way to quickly get him or her up to speed with the biggest and best in the business."

I gotta say, it's looking pretty awesome. Okay I don't like the idea of the Triple H / John Cena thing, nor watching Santino's match but otherwise they look good. What I'm really looking forward to is the CAW Scenario the most.

EDIT: Okay was just watching some videos, and I have to say the CAW Scenario is looking more and more promising, the Diva one was okayish from the start video. I also found out that PS3 users will be able to upload videos directly to Youtube which is awesome. And finally I don't know if it is Beth Phoenix exclusive but you can pull someone out of a pin.

Well I don't see much use for it, I mean in the create a story you can make it yourself and having it in RtWM would funk things up right?

I can officially say Create-a-Story fails. You can only use a CAW 10 times in a story, and you can only use 50 scenes in one story.

Ruined the game mode for me, so now I don't even have much to look forward to. I can no longer create Stories with my CAW's like I planned, and I can no longer use 4 slots to create a years worth of RAW & SD! to create my own 'universe' as planned.

How do you know about this Brush? It was my understanding that it was an entire year's worth you could work with.

IGN's Storyline Designer Hands-On that went up last night. It's been corrected that you can have 500 Scenes for X360&PS3 versions so I've just went through my year planning to change all the CAW's to original Superstars, so that isn't as bad. But still, only being allowed to use a Created Superstar 10 times is a story is still BS. No Angle, Booker T, Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam, Bobby Lashley or Gregory Helms in my story now. :\

Still, there's still a lot to look forward too. Superstar Threads, improved Create-a-Wrestler, easier to get up CAW's attributes, improved Royal Rumble and TLC matches, lots of gameplay improvements, etc.

True' date=' you can make them in chapters if you want.

[/quote']

I like my save slots how they are instead of having to have a slot taken up for one month of CAW use. Completely ruins my year of CAW 'Season' that I have planned.

I think that's what most people are gonna do to begin with. Although I was just reading that IGN thing and it states that even having a CAW in a match counts towards that 10 CAW usage' date=' which is retarded.

[/quote']

It's really retarded. That's like restricted how many matches you can use a CAW in even if Exhibition. The one year I think Yukes haven't screwed us over they do this. :\
