Chapter 1-Path to Dreams Pt. 1]

The story begins as the rising sun overlooks a huge city. The light shines into a small hotel room and into the closed eyes of a boy. This boy had spiky black hair and of average height. The hotel room is virtually empty except for the normal accommodations, a jet black backpack, and as all children have a duel disk. This boy is Ryota Kazuki and soon he will be fighting friends and foes to see whose dream truly deserves to be realized.

Muffles are heard from the room and as Ryota turns towards the window his eyes open to the bright sensation of the morning light. “Hm….oh the hotel room. What time is it?” The boy turns back around to gaze at the alarm clock. He stares blankly at the alarm clock until it finally hits him, “What!?! I’m so LATE!”

Outside the cities Duel Arena tons of children begin to funnel in as they hope to win a spot in the prestigious Duel Academy. Inside the proctors are having “test duels” with the hopefuls to see whether or not they are worthy enough to enter.

A few of the older students are sitting in the seats that surround all the duels. One person is standing alone as he turns away from the action other students, wearing Obelisk blue uniforms approach him. “What wrong Taki? None of these losers are even worth your attention?” The group of 3 starts to snicker as Taki glares at them with saying a word. “Oh, come on Taki we are just playing. It’s not like any of these kids could beat the academies number one duelist.” Taki turns his eyes back to the duels and with a calm, emotionless voice, “I was hoping there would be some talent but, they’re all lacking in talent. But they’re more impressive then you three.”

The intercom comes on and with a loud booming voice that is heard above all the chatter. “Round 4 has ended! Those who have won their matches are as follow; Toki Cloud, Azumi Yukino, and Tyson Fuuin. All those who have not dueled please report to the floor now!”

Toki Cloud was walking to the top of the stands to wait for the rest of the duels to finish. Toki is a blond haired kid wearing his signature white hat. As he sits down he stares up into the light hanging high above. He closes his eyes for a brief moment and as soon as he opens them another boy is standing over him looking straight at him. “Um…” Toki was shocked he’d never met anyone who was so friendly. “Hey, I caught the last turn of your duel that was pretty cool. By the way my name is Ryota Kazuki.” He holds out his hand with a big smile.

The two shack hands as Toki starts to regain his composure. “I….I’m Toki Cloud. Thanks, so did you win?” Ryota gets a big grin and puts his hands behind his head. “I haven’t dueled yet, but I’m up next. I was a little late but that’s ok, because I’m a shoe in to win.”

At the main desk an infuriated proctor grabs the test deck from the collection marked “off limits”. The proctor gets a smile and heads to the main floor, “Call the kid. I’ll show what he gets for being late and for biting me.”

The intercom comes on once again, “ATTENTION! Ryota Kazuki, report to the main dueling arena now!”

Ryota puts his backpack in the seat next to Toki, “Well that’s me, watch my stuff until I get back.” Ryota runs down the stairs while putting his duel disk on and hops over the wall and stands in the duel field. As a smokescreen appears on the other side of the field the proctor walks out with his duel disk ready. “You ready to be put to the test?” The proctor said with an overwhelming laugh.

“That guy is weird.” Toki said as he put his hand on the new kids backpack. And for the first time in awhile Toki was on the edge of his seat and for a reason he didn’t understand, he was smiling. “So who is your friend?” Toki looked behind him to find a girl, she had light brown hair, blue eyes, and of course a duel disk. “Oh, I remember you! We dueled next to each other, I’m Toki Cloud.”

“Hello, my name is Azumi Yukino. How do you know Ryota?” The young girl asks in a questioning and soft tone. Toki turns back to Ryota for a second and then back to Azumi. “Uh, well. We kinda just met.” Toki puts one of his hands behind his head and laughs. “You seem to know him, you think he’ll win?”

Azumi turns her attention to Ryota and the proctor and after seemingly silent minute she answers. “Ryota will defiantly win.”

Back on the dueling floor both Ryota and the proctor engage their duel disk as the whole crowd looks upon the final duel. “I’m not the best at test but if it’s a duel then I can’t lose.” Ryota shouts back. The proctor places his hand on his deck and starts to smile, “Well then only one thing left.” As they both draw their first hand their shout quiets the whole Arena.

“Let’s Duel!”
Chapter 2-Path to Dreams Pt.2]

The final duel for entrance into the Duel Academy has begun with Ryota facing the head proctor. The proctor smiles as he gives a wave to Ryota, signaling that he can go first.

“Fine, I’ll show you that I’m not scared of you. Draw!” Ryota draws his first card and begins his path, the path towards his dream. “I play 1 monster face-down in defense mode and then I place 2 cards face-down. It’s your move, sir.”

Proctor: 4000 Life Points Ryota: 4000 Life Points

Up in the stands Toki and Azumi are paying close attention to the duel. “Is that really all he’s got? Defending himself right from the start.” Toki said out loud questioning. He looks at Azumi who is staring at Ryota in deep concentration.

The Proctor draws his card, “OK you little failure this will teach you not to mess with the big leagues! I summon Lady Ninja Yae. I activate her special ability and by discarding a WIND monster from my hand all your Spell and Trap cards return to your hand.” The Proctor discards a card and Ryota’s two face-down cards glow an ominous green and then return to his hand. “Now that you’re plan is ruined take this! Lady Ninja Yae attacks your monster!” The green haired kunoichi monster jumps into the air and appears before the card and slices it in two. “It’s your turn brat.”

“The card you just destroyed was my Crystal Seer and her special ability allows me to draw 2 cards. While one of them stays in my hand the other goes to the bottom of my deck.” The crowd begins to cheer as the proctor stumbles back a step. “Wow, he is actually holding his own against the Head Proctor. “ Toki said as he looks up to see Azumi smiling in satisfaction.

Proctor: 4000 Life Points Ryota: 4000 Life Points

“You know teach this is pretty fun. I’m glad you know your way around a deck. But now it’s my turn, Draw!” Ryota draws his card as the crowd starts to cheer him on. “I summon my Summoner Monk in defense mode. I activate his special ability and by discarding one Spell card I Special Summon Skilled Dark Magician in attack mode. Since he can’t attack this turn I’ll play two card face-down and call it a turn.”

Proctor: 4000 Life Points Ryota: 4000 Life Points

“You’re still going to defend? You have a lot to learn punk.” The proctor draws his card as the students already in the academy cheer him on. “I Summon Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke to the field in attack mode. Now I equip both my ninjas with Fuhma Shuriken raising both their attacks by 700!” The whole arena erupts as the proctor gives a laugh of sheer confidence. “Now Lady Ninja Yae attack his Summoner Monk.” Lady Ninja Yae throws a kunai at Ryota’s monster which shatters it instantly. “Now Ninja Grandmaster attack his Skilled Magician.” As the second ninja was coming in for his attack Ryota smiles. “I activate my Trap, Magic Cylinder! Magic Cylinder sends your attack right back at you.” As the attack was sent back to the proctor the crowd erupts once again. Toki along with most of the crowd was on their feet, “Yeah go get him Ryota!”

Proctor: 1500 Life Points Ryota: 4000 Life Points

“Now I think it’s time to go on the offensive, Draw! I discard from my hand in order to Special Summon The Tricky in attack mode. I also Summon King of the Swamp in defense mode. Now I attack your Lady Ninja with my new monster.” As the proctors first monster gets destroyed he starts to laugh. “You novice after destroying a monster equipped with Fuhma Shuriken my opponent losses 700 Life Points.”

Proctor: 1300 Life Points Ryota: 3300 Life Points

“Well so you do have some potential maybe next year you might actually make it. But against me you’re no match.” The Proctor draws his card. “I activate the Trap Ninjitsu Art of Transformation! This card allows me to Tribute my Ninja Grandmaster and Special Summon my most powerful card. I summon Brain Crusher! Now my new beast attack The Tricky and as a consultation prize you also lose Life Points because Fuhma Shuriken was also destroyed.” The huge insect pummels the mystery man and Ryota’s Life Points take a drop.

Proctor: 1300 Life Points Ryota: 2200 Life Points

Ryota draws his card and ends his turn with saying anything more. “Has he lost his will?” Toki asks Azumi. “No he’ll win you can count on it.” The proctor laughs as the whole crowd mocks the rookie. “So you’ve finally realized have you? Don’t worry I’ll end it quickly.”

Proctor: 1300 Life Points Ryota: 2200 Life Points

“I Draw my card.” The Proctor glares at his new card. “Hm.I play Stop Defense now your King of the Swamp switches to attack mode. Now Brain Crusher destroy his monster now!” The crowd cheers as the tough kid couldn’t quite handle himself. “Now kid make your last move."

Proctor: 1300 Life Points Ryota: 300 Life Points

“Azumi how do you know he can win?” Toki ask very uneasy about the duel. Azumi picks up the backpack that Ryota left with Toki. “Because Ryota…..he….is the greatest magician in the world.” Toki is stunned as the thinks back on how they met just a few minutes ago. “And he is just the person to make you a believer.” Back on the field Ryota has yet to draw his card. “What’s wrong flunky are you crying? You’ll never be anybody important.” Ryota looks up and shows the Proctor his smile. “Crying are you kidding? I’m getting into that Academy and I’ve got just the magic to get me there, Draw!” Ryota draws his card in amazing fashion.

“Since you’ve played 3 Spell cards since my Skilled Dark Magician has been on the field I can activate his special ability and Tribute him to Summon my favorite card.” Ryota’s only monster vanishes in a flash of light and the light molds into another creature. “I Summon the Dark Magician! Now I activate the Spell card Thousand Knives, which destroy your Brain Crusher.” The Head Proctor stumbles back as the crowd gets on their feet, they know whats about to happen. “Wait, stop! Hold on a minute!” The Proctor tries to plead. “Since you’ve focused so much on attacking you never even had a backup plan. Now Dark Maigican attack him directly!”

The crowd falls silent as the Head Proctor falls to the ground. A faint clap is heard from the top of the stands, Taki is applauding the spectacular come back. One by one the whole stadium stands up and cheers for the new student to Duel Academy, the world’s greatest magician, Ryota Kazuki!”
Chapter 3-Starting On the Wrong Foot]

A beautiful scene of a tranquil forest is seen in the afternoon. A bus is moving up a dirt road as it passes through the last town before it reaches its destination. The people aboard the bus chatter amongst themselves as they wait to see their new home. Onboard are many children with their belongings and duel disk, they are about to take the first step in becoming a champion. The driver’s voice is heard over the intercom system, “All passengers we will be arriving shortly. Next stop Duel Academy!”

At the back of the bus Ryota is sitting next to the aisle as he looks next to him Toki is staring out the window and as usual, daydreaming. “Man Toki I can’t stand this!” Ryota says as he starts to fidget around. Toki breaks from spacing out and turns to his new found friend. “Relax Ryota, it’s not like we’ll never get there.” Toki ends his words with a loud yawn and stretches his arms out.

As Ryota tries to soak in what Toki had told him a female’s voice is heard from the other side of the aisle. “You should be grateful Ryota, you almost lost your chance to get here. You should’ve lost that duel with the Head Proctor.” As the two boys, Ryota and Toki, turn towards the voice they see Azumi Yukino sitting across from them.”Whatever Azumi! You know for a fact I had him beat the whole time.”

Ryota thinks back to after his duel. He was walking back to get his backpack through the crowd of cheering fans and to his surprise Azumi was standing there holding his belongings. “It was weird how you were at the Arena too, Azumi.” Ryota says as he finishes his recollections of that day. Azumi blushes and puts her hand on her duel disk. Ryota looks down at it when he feels as push from behind and falls directly in the middle of the aisle. As everyone on the bus looks back at the clumsy student Ryota turns around holding his head. “What did you do that for?” Toki is there pointing and laughing at Ryota as he climbs back into his seat. As Toki calms down he starts to explain himself. “That’s what you deserve. You may not have seen it because you were late but I did, she was one of the better duelists there.” Ryota looks blankly at Toki and then turns to Azumi. He folds his arms and closes his eyes. “I know that, I’ve only dueled her like a hundred times. She not just good she is the best duelist from our home town.” Toki looks at Azumi as she turns away and looks out her window.

The bus slows to a stop as the students look out the windows in awe. Completely secluded from the outside world, stands the magnificent Duel Academy. As the students begin to file off the bus Ryota takes a long gaze at the monumental structure. “Whoa, I bet you can see this over the whole forest.” He turns around to realize that he is talking to himself. Toki and Azumi are the last two on the bus as they gather their things. “Azumi, Ryota said you’ve both dueled a lot and that you’re the best. Is that true?” Toki ask her. She picks up her bag and stares out the window at Duel Academy. She lets out a sigh as she sees Ryota outside getting a look at the seemingly infinite surrounding forest. “I’ve beaten kids, student from here, and even low professionals. Ryota was right we probably have dueled a hundred times, but I’ve never won against him.” Azumi walks off the bus and leaves Toki alone.

Toki is stunned and wide-eyed by this. “Never lost against someone like Azumi, How!?” He thinks to himself. A knock on the window snaps him out of this shock as he sees Ryota waving to Toki. “Come on Toki the welcoming ceremony is about to start.” Toki turns his shock into a smile and grabs the last of his things and heads to the front of the bus. Little did he know another boy overheard the conversation between himself and Azumi. The boy had been sitting directly in front of Toki and Ryota the whole trip. He was wearing a black long sleeve shirt and a little purple vest over it. He glared at Toki as he got off the bus. He thought back to what he had just heard. The driver had gotten back on the bus and sees this boy. “Um. You’re Tyson Fuuin, right? You had better hurry up things are starting.” Tyson silently gets up and walks off the bus as he puts his first foot on the ground he glares at only one thing. Ryota Kazuki.

With the opening ceremony over the new arrivals head to their new living arrangements, all with color coded duel disk respected to their dorm. Ryota is seen walking alone to the far side of campus, sporting a new bright red duel disk. “Man I can’t believe I’m the only one of us that is in Slifer Red. Toki got into Ra Yellow and Azumi…..” At her name he reflects on what Toki had said on the bus.

“That’s what you deserve. You may not have seen it because you were late but I did, she was one of the better duelists there.”

“…..she is an Obelisk Blue already.” Ryota approaches the shack like dorm and is horrified by its condition. “This is such a step down from either of the other two dorms.” As he checks his room assignment the room number he sees is 1. As he turns the knob to the room it is locked, he sighs loudly until he notices a key in the statue right beside the door. Thinking it was his lucky break Ryota opens the door and walks into the room.

The room is already filled with shelves and shelves of old books, one of which is open on the desk in the back of the room. Ryota walks towards the desk through the tidy room and by the neatly made bed. He stares at the book and flips through a few pages. He does not understand the weird language that it is written in. Just as Ryota is about to turn around he hears a voice from behind him. “You boy, what are you doing in my room?” Ryota’s heart jumps as he slowly turns around, a blue-haired man in a suit stood at the door way. “Oh I remember you. You were at the ceremony, Mr. Matsuki right?” Ryota ask the cold looking man. The teacher walks straight to Ryota grabs his room assignment slip, “Your room number is 10, not 1. That makes your room directly above mine, Mr….” Mr. Matsuki gets a faint smile as he reads the name. “….Ryota Kazuki.”

Ryota quickly grabs his paper and passes by the teachers giving a quick apology. As Ryota reaches the door he turns back to the professor who is staring at him. “You know Kazuki the deck that proctor used against you was my old deck.” Ryota feels a tremble go down his back as he thinks back to the ninjas used at the Duel Arena. As Mr. Matsuki continues, Ryota is broken from his thoughts. “If it was me who was facing you it would have been over quickly. You would’ve had no chance.” As he finishes he gives a faint smirk that forces Ryota to leave.

Ryota burst through the door of room number 10. He slams the door behind him as he thinks about how cold the teacher was and for a second he actually thought that there was no way he could beat him. He puts his backpack down on the empty desk and observes the room. It was nothing to fancy but it would do for now he thought. He looks out the window and sees the river directly behind the dorm and in the background a huge mountain stood. After taking in a deep breath of clean air he turns to his bed. There were actually two beds and they formed a bunk but he was told that he would not be having a roommate. So he climbs the few steps up to the top bunk and when he gets there “AHHHH!!!”

Ryota crashes to the ground as the person already on the top bunk looks down at him. The first thing Ryota sees as he opens his eyes is a Yellow duel disk. “Wow Ryota you really need to watch your step. I guess this is why I get the top bunk.” As Ryota opens his eyes he realizes who it is. “Toki! What are you doing at the Slifer Dorm, and more importantly in my room?” Ryota manages to yell as he picks `ilself off the floor. Toki puts his hand on Ryota’s shoulder and helps him to the lower bed. “Well I figured it would be way more fun and interesting here so I thought, what better way to spend my first year than with my new friend Ryota.”
Chapter 4-Rivals!?]

The day starts as Ryota opens his eyes for the first day of classes at Duel Academy. He is woken up early this morning because of the most horrendous sound he has ever heard, Toki’s massive snores. He rolls over to see the alarm clock and flips it off as he rolls out of bed. He opens the curtain to see a gray, cloudy, and overall gloomy day.

A loud yawn is heard over the stillness of the morning. Toki and Ryota are walking along with other students towards the main complex, heading to their first class of the day. “Did you not sleep well, Ryota?” Toki ask as he watches his friend strugfla to keep his eyes open. Ryota gives an angered look to Toki as he thinks about his disturbed night. “Let’s just say there was a lot of ruckus last night.” As the pair walk into their first class they manage to grab seats next to each other on the board of the Slifer Red and Ra Yellow section of the class, towards the back of course.

As Ryota puts his head down to try and get some of his sleep back, Toki is too excited and is all over the room chatting it up with the other first year duelist. On the other side of the room Ryota notices a boy sitting alone staring at the blank blackboard ahead. “Hey who is that?” Ryota ask as Toki finally comes back to sit down. “I’m not real sure but he does look serious doesn’t he?” Toki replies with a straight, calm tone.

“His name is Tyson Fuuin and it’s been said that he is one of the best of the new arrivals. The only reason he is a Ra is because he toyed with the proctor during his entrance duel.” The two boys turn to see Azumi sitting two rows ahead of them. “Oh, hi Azumi, morning.” Toki says as he gives a cheerful but half-hearted wave. Ryota had already turned back to Tyson, “Tyson Fuuin, huh?” Tyson turns straight towards Ryota and glares right at him. For Ryota it appears as if time slows down, the others in the class seem to not exist. A cold chill runs down Ryota’s spine the exact same as when…..

The classroom door slams shut as the teacher enters right after the bell. Ryota glances over to see none other than Mr. Matsuki! Mr. Matsuki walks up to the podium up at the front of the class and stares until everyone has seated themselves. As he begins attendance Ryota quickly darts his eyes back to Tyson who has already focused on their teacher.

After the days classes Ryota, Toki, and Azumi are walking towards the cafeteria. “Wow, so much homework even after the first day. How are we supposed to finish it all?” Toki sarcastically questions the others. They all laugh at Toki as he acts out Mr. Matsuki as he hands out the homework. As they calm down Azumi turns towards Ryota and points at him and yells in a scolding manner, “You shouldn’t have fell asleep in class, Ryota. As a Slifer you can easily be kicked out if you keep getting yelled at by the teachers.”

“Yes mom, alright mom, sorry mom.” Was the replies that Ryota gave as Toki was busting up over the twos fight. But that all ceased as a group of others blocked the path.

They were all Obelisk Blues and they all had an off smile. “Well hello Azumi, long time no see. Why is someone of your stature with these two low lives?” said the ‘leader’ of the group snickering. He was tall, brown haired, and obviously from a wealthy family. Azumi had put her head down in shame as he tried to explain, “These are my fr...Friends.” As the group laughs at such a thought the leader continues on, wiping a tear from his eye. “You sure do have a sense of humor. You should be back at the dorm with the other qualified duelist. Not only are these people losers in life but they are in a duel as well. For someone like you to even acknowledge them is disgraceful to your name.”

As Azumi starts to tear up Ryota grabs her hand and drags her forward. She looks up at Ryota as all three of them pass the group. “Ryota?” is the only thing Azumi manages to say. He looks back at her with a smile. “Look, you don’t have to worry about people like him. I know you’re nothing like him. Besides I know all three of us could duel circles around rich boy over there.” This enrages the group and causes the boy to run up and take Azumi’s backpack. As Azumi turns around the group starts to run, all laughing. “This is what you get for talking to me, Callen Westbrook, like that. If you want her stuff back then meet me in the warehouse behind the Academy for a duel, tonight.” As Callen and his friends run out of sight Azumi begins to tear up again until she feels the pressure of Ryota’s hand on hers. She looks up to see Ryota clenching his teeth.
Chapter 5-For a Friend]

In the small room of the Slifer dorm Azumi, Toki, and Ryota wait for the impending duel against Callen Westbrook. As Ryota turns towards the others from staring out the window he sits down at his desk. “So how do you know this Callen guy, Azumi?” Toki switches his gaze from Ryota to Azumi as she looks down at her feet. “Well you know how my family is pretty well off, right?” Toki shakes his head in agreement as Ryota finishes her story. “And the wealthy keep to only those like them, so it’s only natural for them to be introduced.”

Toki once again shakes his head in agreement but with a puzzled look. “Ok I get it, but how did you two meet then?” Azumi gets a depressed look on her face as she turns. “Well we um….” She is interrupted by Ryota opening the door. “Another day Toki, we’ve got more important things to do.” Ryota says in confidence as he slides on his duel disk.

As the group arrives at the old warehouse they seem to be alone. As they look around the darkness creates an ominous feeling against the old obsolete machinery in the background. As they near the center of the room a faint chuckle is heard as Callen Westbrook stands in front of Ryota and his ‘crew’ standing at the side. With a nod Ryota steps forward and Toki leads Azumi over to the side. Ryota approaches with a smile, “Well I’m here, are you surprised?”

“Oh no I’ve been preparing for this. He he.” With a snap of his finger the sound of a cable breaks and a huge steel beam comes crashing down in front of the door sealing Ryota in. “Well, now that’s a little overboard don’t you think?” Toki snaps with a hint of sarcasm. Ryota turns back to face Callen with a big smile on his face. “Why are you smiling, you have nothing to be happy about?” Ryota snaps his goggles to his forward and glares at his opponent. “At least now you won’t run away after I wipe the floor with you!”

As both Callen and Ryota insert their decks their duel disks activate. With the stage set, the witness’ ready, both duelist draw their hands and in unison yell, “DUEL!”

Ryota: 4000 LP Callen: 4000 LP

Now that the duel has started Callen makes the first move. “I play 3 cards face-down and then I end my turn, your move Slifer slacker.” Toki looks on astonished, “What!? No monsters and he’s an Obelisk!”

Ryota looks at the seemingly horrible play of his opponent. “And here I thought I was facing someone with skill, Draw!” With a smile he re-arranges his hand and continues his move. “I summon Skilled White Magician in attack mode!” Callen calls out with shear confidence, “You’ve walked right into my trap. Reveal my 2 face-downs! First Ojama Trio puts 3 Ojama tokens on your side of the field. Then my Scapegoat gives me 4 Sheep tokens.” Ryota is shaken by the summoning of tokens to his side of the field. “O..Ok, I play one card face-down and attack your Scapegoat with Skilled White Magician!”

Ryota: 4000 LP Callen: 4000 LP

As the attack finishes Callen draws his card. “Well I guess that it was just a fluke beating the instructor. I summon Machine King Prototype and then I also Special Summon Gilasaurus. Now I end my turn.”

“What!? Why didn’t he attack Ryota’s Ojama Tokens, he would lose 300 Life Points per Token?” Toki screams out. “He must be planning to use them later.” Azumi says without taking her eyes off the duel at hand. She thinks back to the first time she met Ryota when they where 4 years old.

It was back in their home town on the bridge that overlooks the town river. Ryota had introduced himself the greatest magician in the world after seeing Azumi crying. Ryota told her that he could grant any wish and told her to ask for something. Azumi wished that she didn’t have to move to this town and that she could go back to her friends. Ryota with a broad smile took her hand and simply said, “That’s easy. I’ll be your friend so you don’t have to be scared about moving. We can play every day and you can be my assistant.” After playing for the day they stood at the center of the bridge and Ryota made a promise. “No matter what I’ll get a card made for you.” She questions what he means and he gives the same smile as when they first met. “You’re my assistant so I have to have a card made for you in my deck, then I’ll never forget you.” He waves goodbye and takes off, Azumi stands there blushing and giving a small wave to her new friend.

“Draw!” Ryota cries snapping Azumi from her recollection. Once again Callen interrupts, “I activate Mystical Space Typhoon destroying your face-down.” As the face-down on Ryota’s side of the field blows up a faint smile crosses his face. “I play Royal Magical Library in defense mode and then play a card face-down, your move rich boy!” Ryota calls in an excited tone.

“Now Ryota isn’t attacking, either!?” Toki yells getting more and more frustrated at the duel. He looks over at Azumi who also appears to be shocked and puzzled.

Callen doesn’t hesitate on drawing his card, confident in his strategy. “I Tribute my Gilasaurus in order to summon Machine King! Now my Machine King attacks your bag of books and Machine King Prototype attacks your Ojama Token. Now go!”

Ryota: 3700 LP Callen: 4000 LP

“You’re pretty good, but it’s my turn, Draw!” Azumi and Toki exchange looks when they see a grin cross Ryota’s face. “I activate Heavy Storm which destroys all Spell and Trap cards on the field.” As a heavy wind picks up Callen is heard laughing. “So you lose another 600 Life Points!” As the wind dies down Ryota points to his monster. “This is the third Spell that has been activated since my Skilled White Magician has been summoned, so now I Tribute him to Special Summon Buster Blader! The knight type monster takes the field in spectacular fashion. That’s not all rich boy I discard one card from my hand to Special Summon The Tricky. Now Buster Blader attacks your Machine King and The Tricky attacks your Machine King Prototype!”

“Well, I’ll give you credit you’re no fluke. But that will not change the outcome of this duel!” Callen draws his card and praises his hand. “This starts the end for you, I play the Trap DNA Surgery now all monsters on the field will become Machines! Now for my Spell Card Acid Rain which destroys all Machines on the field!” As both of Ryota’s strongest cards get destroyed he is stunned. “Now I summon Proto-Cyber Dragon Now attack his Life Points directly!”

Ryota: 2000 LP Callen: 3500 LP

“Ryota, hang in there!” Toki yells to try and support his staggering friend. With his back turned towards them Ryota gives him a thumbs up and draws his card. “I summon Defender, the Magical Knight in defense mode. I also play one card face-down and end my turn. Is this all you’ve got rich boy?”

Ryota: 2000 LP Callen: 3500 LP

“Hmph, let me show you what money can buy! I play the Spell Raigeki which destroys your monster.” Ryota waves his finger, “My knight is spared by removing a Spell Counter from him, try again.” Callen growls in anger and the switches his monster to defense mode. “I’m far from through I summon Cyber Phoenix in defense mode. Now hurry up your worthless turn.”

Ryota draws his card and gives a loud sigh of displeasure. “Well I can’t do anything with this, I end my turn.”

Callen and his group all laugh as Callen manages to draw a card. “Oh man you sure are a pure slacker. I Tribute both my monsters to bring out my trump card, I summon Perfect Machine King in attack mode! Now my monster attack his Knight now” As the mechanized monster closes in Ryota speaks up. “I activate my Trap, Magic Cylinder!” As Callen’s attack comes right back at him. Callen simply laughs it off. “You’re only stalling Ryota! Why are you trying so hard in this duel?”

Ryota: 2000 LP Callen: 100 LP

“I guess I just can’t stand to see a pretty girl cry.” Ryota looks over at Azumi with a smile, “Besides I’ve got a promise to keep to her.” Ryota fluidly takes his next card. “Draw! It looks like I’ll be keeping my promise too. I first play Double Spell it lets me play your Mystical Space Typhoon and destroy your DNA Surgery. Next I Tribute my Defender to summon none other than the assistant of the Dark Magician himself…” Azumi’s focus on the duel is broken and her gaze turns to Ryota, she manages a smile. “Ryota…”

Defender vanishes in a whirlwind and Ryota slams a card onto his duel disk. “I Summon the Dark Magician Girl!”

“Whoa! That’s one cute monster; wonder how he got that card, I’ve never heard of it?” Toki says to himself out loud. “Now I activate the Spell Card Mage Power it ups my Dark Magician Girl by 500 enough to defeat your so called Perfect Machine King.” Callen laughs controllably now, “You really are a moron you can’t even do simple math.” Ryota points to himself in a heroic way, “You might want to check the points again, rich boy.” As Callen checks the points he yells at Ryota. “You’re cheating how did your monster gain another 300 ATK points!?”

“That’s easy, Dark Magician Girl gains another 300 points when there is a Dark Magician in my Graveyard.” Callen shook his fist at his opponent, “I never destroyed your Dark Magician!” Ryota starts to chuckle, “For an Obelisk you sure don’t get it, but I guess they call him The Tricky for a reason.” As the whole factory lets out a gasp of shock Ryota continues, “Now let’s end this duel, Dark Magician Girl attack him directly!”

Toki, Azumi, and Ryota are back in the Slifer Dorm room having a party. All was good and then the question popped up from Toki, “So Ryota how did you get that card?” Ryota smiles and looks at Azumi and then his duel disk, “That’s a secret for another day.” The group groans but with smiles on all their faces as their week at the Duel Academy closes.

cool chapter, bro.

The only thing I would do is make the duels more elaborate. I thought Callen lost way to easily with a card like magic cylinder, but the thing you did with The Tricky was very clever.

btw, what was callen's reaction to loosing?

Good job, I'll keep reading.
