Thewho
if you guys want to listen to a great Mashup album, it should be this one.if you have time, read spoiler and listen to the music.
The Grey Album itself]The Grey Album is a mashup album by Danger Mouse, released in 2004. It uses an a cappella version of rapper Jay-Z's The Black Album and couples it with instrumentals created from a multitude of unauthorized samples from The Beatles' LP The White Album (clever where it gets its name). The Grey Album gained notoriety due to the response by EMI in attempting to halt its distribution. after 5 years of being realesed, this mashup never fails to amaze me. under all the controversy it has caused, this record should also be noticed for how great it is. Danger Mouse really did great job with this. its not just Jay-Z voice over The Beatles' music, its much more complex than that, in ways that I cant even explain it. I remember watching Grey Tuesday on the news; people were putting the album up for download on their individual website! sure, it was illegal, but it was a statement, it was a protest. I remember very clearly my older cousin downloading the album, and then blasting "99 Problems" through the house. The song sounded aggresive, loud and in-your-face just like the original "Helter Skelter". this album should really go down as an Underground classic, not only does it sound amazing, it helped get alot Hip-Hop heads to (re)discover The Beatles' music, so we owe it that much. I can honestly say I like this better than the original Black Album. here's a few listens from YouTube:
Songs] - Samples "Helter Skelter" - Samples "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"(my favorite song. Clapton's guitar work, The Beatles' hook, Jay-Z's Lyrics. What more can I say?) Moment of Clarity- Samples "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" Encore (Experimental Video)- Samples "Glass Onions" and "Savoy Truffle" Discuss this album. Should the combintion of The Beatles/Jay-Z really should have happen? do you like the music itself? and also discuss the copyright laws that greatly overshadowed this record. I'm hoping to hear EVERYONE'S opinion of this album and everything that surrounds it, even if your not a fan of Jay-Z, The Beatles or both. so, again, discuss.
