Pretty much this is...

Salamence

vs.

Dragonite

vs.

Flygon

--

First, let's go on to Salamence:

Typing: Dragon / Flying (4x weak to Ice)

Base ATK: 135

Base SpA: 110

Base Spe: 100

Defenses: 95 / 80 / 80

Takes 25% from Stealth Rock.

Intimidate as ability.

Access to: Dragon Dance, Outrage, Draco Meteor, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Stone Edge, Dragon Claw, Crunch, Brick Break, Roost, Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, Dragon Pulse and Wish.

Second, let's look at Dragonite:

Typing: Dragon / Flying (4x weak to Ice)

Base ATK: 134

Base SpA: 100

Base Spe: 80

Defenses: 91 / 95 / 100

Takes 25% from Stealth Rock.

Inner Focus as ability.

Access to: Dragon Dance, Outrage, Dragon Meteor, Superpower, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Roost, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, and Heal Bell.

Finally, let's analyze Flygon.

Typing: Dragon / Ground (4x weak to Ice)

Base ATK: 100

Base SpA: 80

Base Spe: 100

Defenses: 80 / 80 / 80

Takes 6.25% from Stealth Rock.

Levitate as ability.

Access to: Earthquake, Outrage, U-turn, Fire Blast, Dragon Claw, Stone Edge, Draco Meteor, Roost, Substitute and Toxic.

Now you decide, which is the better OU dragon?

Didn't flygon replace Garchomp when he became Uber?

You would think so but no. FLygon only made OU when he got Outrage.

Over all it's clear who the winner is. Their really aren't many other pokemon in OU that can do so many different things and pull of so many different sets so well as Sal.

However the main selling point for me on Flygon is 1) Being ground lets him take 1/2 dmage of SR, not 2x and 2) Having a STAB EQ just kicks ass.

Also when talking about Flygon speed isn't that big a problem since 99% of them are scarfed.

Not really' date=' as Garchomp had a better base Speed as it can OUTSPEED, not tie the base 100s. Garchomp also had SD, Sand Veil, etc.

Flygon = Salamance

Flygon > Dragonite

Salamance > Dragonite

Dragonite = Fail

Dragonite can do Blizzard. Flygon can do Solar Beam. Salamance is annoying to raise.

Flygon = Salamence? NO.

Flygon > Dragonite? DEBATABLE.

Flygon has no interest in Solar Beam. Dragonite would rather use TBolt for better coverage with Dragon-type moves.

I don't care about stats I usually go with what I like.

Although good stats are nice xD

Anyway, I love Flygon. Always has been my favorite Dragon-type. But I look at it like this, who really goes about getting a near-perfect Pokemon? I played against a few other people with a non-competitive team, and I did fine. I think Flygon would do just fine.

Oh fine if you must put it that way...

I have owned all three at some point or another, but I did not go through the extremes to have them near-godly. Its not worth it.

Anyway, I think Flygon stat-wise, being overall the weakest, is well the weakest. It would give a Dragonite some competition, but if you had a properly trained Salamance, Salamance would dominate both with its superior move pool and stats, despite taking 25% from Stealth Rock.

I think that's a more legit answer >_<

Obviously Salamence is first. Why I made this poll include Salamence is actually shocking.

The real question is whether Flygon or Dragonite is better.

Flygon obviously has worse stats/movepool, but he can bring the different movepool he has together and take on a different role Dragonite has no way of doing.

IMO Flygon is better. His second STAB move is better then Dragonites and being ground makes him take 1/2 damage from SR, not the 2x that Dragonite, and Salamence take. And while Dragonite can do a lot more then Flygon most of those things are done better by other pokemon, mainly Salmance. Flygon has his own nich and with U-Turn he makes a GREAT scarfer.

But Flygon has to rely on his ability for protection against Ground-type moves. That is null and void, however, because Dragonite's ability sucks.

You mean to swtich in? Not really. Taking 1/2 damage from Fire moves gives him several a good number of chances to come in and while he might not have Dragonite's bulk he can take a couple of hits.

Dragonite' date=' however, can utilize Bulky DDance, also has Heal Bell sets to work with.

And unlike Flygon, Nite can make its way with Yache.

[/quote']

Salmance can also use Bulky DDance. I even use one on a Shooddy team.

Heal Bell is good.

Yache is more helpful on Nite, but with the loss of 1/4 of it's HP on it's first switch in the drop of power from any Ice Attack is still likely to kill it.

Yeah, I think we ALL agree Salamence is the best of the pack.

We are debating about the second-best, I thought.

I still think Flygon is better, but Dragonite does have it's qualities. I was just playing devil's advocate.
