To David, all hell had broken loose around him. The tree...thing...was apparently trying to kill everyone. And yet that wasn't the weird part of the story. Everyone seemed to be scrambling around, some of them using some sort of bladed weapons that did absolutely nothing short of anger it further.

Well, that made the odd sword all but useless. Great. So he went from unarmed to having a useless weapon. Such an impressive upgrade. David's expression became even more serious when he saw that all the damage the tree had been inflicted with had healed with alarming speed. So cuts were out, but what else would work against a tree. Somehow fire seemed way too obvious, and how would they start one without risking burning down the whole forest?

What else could stop a tree? David could scarcely believe he had ever had that thought before. Who the hell ever wanted to stop a tree outside this situation? Severe cold was another option, but that was even harder and borderline impossible to do than starting a fire was. When the thought crossed his mind, though, he felt a brief tingle of warmth in the fingers clutching the small sword.

Markus gasped as some more roots reached at him, as he batted them away with his large halberd. Fortunately, the roots cut with the blade seemed to become brittle and crumble away into nothing seconds later, preventing them from reaching towards him again, though the weapon was large and burly in his arms. He mentally wondered how he figured out how to use it as well as he already had, but even with that newfound skill, it was difficult to beat away so many objects while confined to a small forest.

The small hedgehog-pidgeon by his feet was also being attacked, but it seemed to be doing better than he was; Each peck of its beak seemed to ward the roots away from it, as if they had forgotten it was even there, and the strange being cooed a little bit as it was finally left alone.

Makrus sweated a little as he looked up at the wooden Collossus. How was someone supposed to take down something like that? Their weapons were twigs in comparison to it, and it didn't seem to care about getting wounded anyway.

The wooden being glanced at Heikichi like some might look at a bug, and swung a wrecking-ball like limb towards him again, this time also putting it into the collision path of Katy and David.

David's eyes widened in pure shock, his body seeming to lock up as he stared at what could very possibly be impending doom. The two-headed snake hissed and wrapped their necks together like one might hug a loved one in their final moments, which didn't do much for David's sudden loss of optimism and confidence.

The warmth present in his fingers intensified and he glanced down at the sword, just in time to see the blade double in length, now glowing with a faint blue shimmer. Either entirely on instinct, or the will of another, David swung the sword towards the tree, the blade releasing a projectile of the same blue color, which expanded outwards, chilling the air it contacted with before hitting the tree's huge 'fist'.

"What?" David blinked, crossing his fingers as he stared at the tree, even as a thick sheet of ice extended over the 'arm' of the creature. Ice? Would that do anything?

Heikichi jumped out of the way of the arm again. The staff grew to massive proportions, almost 7 times as tall as Heikichi. He swung the staff into the tree monster's head, distracting it as it tried to swat away the staff from its face.

Kipo managed to gather a good sized pile of sticks. She huffed from the effort. She put her want close to it. A spark came out and lit the sticks on fire. Soon, a bonfire was created. Kipo lifted her wand and the burning pile of sticks followed it, floating like a small fireball. Kipo then made her way to the monster, placing the bonfire behind its feet.

Wayne was carried away by the beast's mighty swing. He got in a "stickier" situation when he noticed the roots on the monster seemed to coil and wrap around his feet. Then his torso. It was surrounding Wayne, he knew he had to get out as soon as possible. He pulled and tugged, but the cords just got tighter and tighter. To make things even worse, he noticed a a bonfire placed strategically behind the beast. One step backward, and he would catch on fire. Wayne didn't expect the fire to do so much damage as to killing the monster, but it will certianly burn the monster's outer part, which included Wayne. That wasn't good. Wayne scrambled harder to et out, but found it hopeless.

Ah, crap. That thing swung its branch at me, and considering the fact that I'd just recovered from stumbling onto the ground, I didn't think I'd be able to dodge it. Yep, I'm a goner.

"Katy, don't lose hope yet." Fuzzy was still sitting upon my head, talking with that know-it-all attitude of his. Even if he IS a precog...

I stood upright as fast as I could, figuring if I couldn't dodge it I'd at least be able to reduce the damage.

And I hate it when that stupid cat's right.

A blast of blue energy-looking stuff shot at the tree's limb, instantaneously covering it in a sheet of ice. I watched as it creeped around the wood, slowly freezing the whole arm and slowing down its approach.

"What the...?" It slowed down, sure, but it was still coming at me.

Right then, though, was when I had another indescribable feeling. It was like a fire was building up in my arm, and I saw the tattoos from my legs spreading to my arms. I took a shot at it, just to see what happened.

As the tree's swing came in range of my face, I swung my arm back and slammed my fist into the branch, meeting skin with ice and wood. I felt it crack under the power of my strike, and the branch quickly shattered into shards. Aside from a few chilling flakes on my face, I was safe.

And now I think I know what my abilities are in this bloody world.

I have monster strength, apparently.

"Katy, glad to see you've figured out at least part of your Ego. Now, don't forget to thank David for saving you. And make sure you step three feet to the left in about two minutes."

James noticed Kipo lighting the sticks on fire and place them at the monster's feet. James saw one arm of the monster being covered in ice and Katy punching it, shattering it to pieces. "I see that the others are doing quite well on there own" said Vitex, fusing with James again. James jumped and bagan over to the fire. He grabed one and flew up to the monsters 'head'.

James stabbed the stick into a hole in the back of the 'head'. Fire was now burning the inside. James flew back down and began launching air waves at the roots coming towards him and the others.

I walked with the bear, noticing that the trees kept regrowing all parts that we cut off, "I don't understand. If these are tree than they shouldn't grow back like that, should they?" The bear was so focused on me that it didn't notice roots going along it's legs, moving with him, and crawling up as he walked. I listened carefully as he talked, not looking at him, then made eye contact and noticed the roots. I gasped and took out my sword, striking the spot on the ground that they came out of. The bear roared of fright and jumped up, luckily it didn't fall seeing as how the roots had already been cut. A tree way off in the distance yelped and we knew that the headache virus thing had to be destroyed soon or we'd all die.

The beast roared with a sound that seemed like a massive tree's breaking, as its first was shattered into frozen chunks of wood that rained upon the rest of the ESPers as they each scurried around the creature, carrying out there own methods of bringing about its downfall.

It roared once again as a burning stick was jabbed into the back of its head; The fire smoldered and flared against the strange-seeming wood, but didn't immediately catch flame. The being stretched its remaining arm back to snatch the burning twig away, at the same time distracting it from regrowing its other arm, and causing it to take a thundering step backward.

A bonfire flew apart as the giant stepped into it, yowling in pain. The leg was showered in burning tinders as it was coated in ash and small flames. It growled, the wood of its leg creaking and groaning due to the flame being caught on them, as it thumped the foot against the ground in order to help it put out the fire.

"We obviously can't let it put out the fire!" I watched as the giant tree Beast stomped its "foot", attempting to do away with the flames.

"Obviously. Katy, stop it!" Fuzzy clung to my head tightly, nearly ripping out my hair as I charged. Seeing as how I now have monster strength in this world, I want to try something.

I got a good running start, then pushed off the ground with my legs. I felt strength surge through my limbs, and I felt the ground depress a little as I jumped high into the air. I felt the wind blow past my face as I ascended to the center of the tree Beast's body, and I slammed my fist into it as hard as I could, pushing all of my body weight into it.

"Well, come on, I can't exactly finish this thing off by myself!" I screamed at the others, as I tumbled downward with the giant tree to the ground.

Okay, so I was starting to get into this whole ESP thing, I'll admit it.

Heikichi saw the tree monster take a few steps back, after being frozen, shattered and lit on fire.

"Good job Kipo-chan! It's working!" Heikichi congratulated Kipo, while returning his staff normal size. Kipo poked her fingers togther nervously.

"Aw, it was nothing."

Heikichi saw the monster trying to put out the flames on its foot, so Heikichi made his staff grow to a massive diameter.

"Go trip him Ruyi!" Heikichi commanded his staff. The staff rolled towards where the monster would make another stomp. As the monster stomped down again, its foot rolled off the staff and fell with a great crash.

Akashic was thrown off the arm and watched as the beast ignited into flames. He looked up at the others who were surrounding the beast, trying every way possible to stop him from stopping the fire.

"Damn... It's not working. We need a way to speed this up. Like gasoline or fireworks or... Wait, I've got it!" He ran next to the fallen beast and pointed at the flailing creature, careful not to be smashed. "Everyone! Fan the flames! The more air we feed it, the bigger the fire will get!"

Zenon got to his feet and heard Akashic's statement. He took off again, flew directly over the monster, and began fanning the flames with his wings. He focused on a thinner part of the monster's leg. The flames grew larger and larger as the monster flailed and began to char. Eventually his this thin part became ash, and the thing's leg snapped right off. The monster wailed with pain and began shooting vines out from all over its body, trying to grab anything in its reach.

James followed Zenon and fanned the flames. The monsters leg fell off and it let out a massive wail. It began shooting vines from all over it's body, trying to grab anything in its reach. A vine wrapped itself around James' foot and threw him away. James was thrown a good mile, it would have been more if it weren't for his wings. James flew back towards the monster, but was attacked by roots coming up from the forest.

James hit the ground with a mighty thud and roots began coiling around him. The wings on James back disappeared and Vitex shot out of his stomach and began sooting air waves at the roots, cutting James free. "Thanks Vitex!" said James, now standing up "You saved my life."

"It was nothing James."

"We need to go, the others might need me."

James fused with Vitex once more and flew towards the monster at full speed.

The massive creature bellowed as the flames danced acrossed its rapidly charring body. It twitsted and turned, it's body almost completely uncoiling to large segments of roots that seemed to twist everywhere, trying to capture and kill as much as they possibly could while the rapidly unravelling giant still existed.

Markus hasily dove out of the way, driven out of his stupor. "They managed to take that thing down... No way..." He muttered to himself. He hadn't helped in the least unfortunately, and swallowed bile at the thought of that. Still, he managed to take a few swipes with his weapon at the roots that groped desperately for him, cutting them away and causing them to wither, as if from age. He sweated a little as the roots started swarming him in waves, as he barely managed to deflect them from his body.

"I can't keep doing this forever..." He muttered as he took a baseball-swing at another group, warding them off. Luckily, the root swarm dried up after that, as the giant had uncoiled itself almost completely.

The small remnants of the once-gigantic wooden figure descended back into the groud, like gradments of a ship dipping under the water.

And then, the forest was silent again. Slowly but surely, the regular trees unfurled from their tight coils, colorful leafless branches reaching towards the dark sky once more.

A small head poked out of a bush; A younger-looking girl with incredibly long leaves. She looked back and forth between the ESPers with a curious expression.

We'd finally taken down that behemoth. It shrunk into the ground, retreating from our super powerful combined force!

Okay, I think I'm starting to like this ESP'er thing.

Anyway, as I slowly caught my breath after the fight, Fuzzy spoke up once again beside me.

"Don't worry for now. I don't think she means any harm."

"What are you talking about?" As I looked down and asked him, I heard leaves rustling. A really young girl popped out of the bushes, looking at us.

James saw the monster sinking back into the ground. He breathed a sigh of relief "We did it, we actually beat that thing" .James landed and Vitex came out of his shoulder. "Well I thought that went better than expected" he said, putting his sword in his sheath. "James look over there" said Vitex. James looked at the bush that Vitex had pointed to with his beak and saw a girls head pop out. who's she? James thought. He rested his hand on the handle of his sword and said "Who are you?"

Akashic watched the beast burn to cinders, the result of his not so brilliant but still effective plan. Even though he had helped (sort of), he still felt kinda useless. He showed up late, didn't even get a weapon, and within 5 seconds of showing up was mauled by the beast they just vanquished. He saw the same expression on Markus's face as on his own and felt pity for him.

Just then a little green head popped out of the bush behind him. Startled, he turned around swiftly, expecting to see another monster but instead was greeted by the soft eyes of the little flower girl. "Ummm, hello there. And you would be?"

The girl giggled a little as she looked around at the two of them, an impish smile on her face. Her head disappeared into the foliage again, before she jumped outward once more, revealing her entire body.

She was short, about 4 feet at the tallest, and fairly young; Maybe about 10 at the oldest. Her hair flowed down past her waist and was barely tied away from her large green eyes. Her most striking features, however, were her ears and leaves; Each ear was pointed backwards until it was nearly a foot in length, and dipped a little bit against its own weight, making her look like some sort of elf. Secondly, across her arms, legs and crown of the head were long, green-olive leaves, almost seeming like decorations until someone saw they were actually attached to the person itself.

"I'm Anx." She said cheerfully, looking up hopefully at them. "I saw you take down that big, bad monster. I think they called him... Ib? Something like that..." She giggled a little, standing on her tip toes. "Everyone else will be so relieved!" She said with shining eyes, clasping her hands before you.

"I know! I should take you to our queen!" She said like the idea had suddenly occurred to her. "She's been SO worried about that big monster that we never really come out anymore... She'll want to thank you personally!" She said, a broad smile on her face.

Markus felt a slight twitch of distrust towards this small child's sudden appearance, but it was quickly drowned by her innocent enthusiasm. Her ears dipped and bobbed cutely as she bounced with excitement, and he couldn't help but smile a little bit. He felt kind of proud that he, while not really doing much to aid in taking down the monster, still was part of the group that did.

Wayne was unconcious for a second. He layed right were the monster decended into the ground, flat on his back, as if he were dead. A few seconds later, he cringed, and yelped in pain. As he inspected his clothing, which use to be black, was now scorched. A line across his stomach indicated that he was burned, but the line was faint. The hawk which decided not to say its name flew behind Wayne, with no expression at all. He flew over Wayne, and in an instant, the light burn mark vanished. The pain ebbed. On Wayne's stomach was a silver feather, which withered, turned black, and disintegrated into ashes.

The bird helped Wayne up, and gave him a new shirt. After changing, Wayne walked foward, as if nothing happened. He suddenly spotted an ear, and on reaction, took out his bow and loaded it with an arrow. Wayne took time to examine the ear, it was long, about a foot, and seemed to point at the end. Wayne lowered his arms, and walked over silently.

Heikichi cheered after the monster finally gave up and melted into the ground. His staff returned to normal size and bounced back to Heikichi.

"You did it Ruyi! Good job!" congratulated Heikichi. The staff shrunk to toothpick size and entered Heikichi's pocket. Heikichi then went to Kipo.

"Kipo! You helped a whole lot! Without you, the monster would still be here!"

Heikichi gave Kipo a heart-warming hug. Kipo didn't respond, but just blushed furiously. Then, the little forest girl poked her head out of a bush.

"I know! I should take you to our queen!" said the forest girl.

"Oh, it was nothing! We're just glad to help!" Heikichi humbly said, a little bit flustered.

David blinked at the sudden turn of events once the ice had hit the tree creature and showed no reaction to any of the things occuring around him. He was jerked back to present focus when one of the snake heads hissed in his ear.

"Ack! What was that for?" David demanded, sticking a finger in his ear to rid himself of the irritating tickle.

"I don't know, seemed like a good idea at the time. Oh wait, Toxic did it."

"What? I did not!"

"Then it was her idea."

"It was not!"

David raised an eyebrow and glanced between the two heads. "Who are you?" he muttered, not wanting to draw more of the other ESPers' attention to himself than needed.

"I'm Venom."

"Toxic."

David blinked in confusion. "Wait wait...you said before it was 'Toxic's idea' and now you're calling yourself Toxic? And the other one responded to the accusation?" David was feeling very confused at this point.

"He gets confused," the mischevious head answered.

"You said it was female before! What gender are you two?" David demanded, his voice rising in his frustration.

"I dunno. We haven't actually been that bored, believe it or not."

David sighed and decided it would probably be better to just drop the subject for now. He studied the weird girl that had attracted everyone else's attention and silently cursed himself for not noticing her earlier. Now he felt like he was really far behind on a conversation...

The girl giggled, flicking a lock of hair out of her face. She giggled once more at Heikichi. "Ooh, you're just so cute!" She said, patting his head. "No no, my people have been fretting about this thing all the time! Please, you wouldn't keep us from celebrating your victory, would you?" She said with a slight sniffle, her eyes glinting.

Markus shifted uneasily. One one hand, he wanted to get out of this guy's mind as quickly as possible. On the other, that girl was oddly persuasive, despite not having much of an argument. He blamed it on her eyes, they were just way too innocent for any civilized being.

The pidgeon-hog at his feet cooed and flapped up onto his shoulder, just in time for it's head to turn scaled and fanged.

Zenon didn't say anything as he followed the other ESPers. The girl's eyes were so luring and luscious, he felt compelled to run and kiss her. But he restrained. The girl led them through the forest. The trees had all reverted to a serene look, and it was hard to imagin them looking like they had not a half hour ago. Then Zenon thought, "Does time even flow here?" If it did, they'd been there for at least a good 2 hours if not more. Huren followed along silently, looking straight ahead, examining the girl as if there were something different about her, besides the obvious points.
