Snitch
An entry for a competition on dA - the idea was to write a prologue for the contest creators Warriors fan-fic, so I did just that. The general plot is a cat by the name of Skypaw meets a human, or two-leg, called Sophie (at least in my bit here, she hasn't named the human yet) that can speak to the cats and vice-versa. Interesting plot, and it was writing, and there's rarely writing comps on dA...so yeah. ^-^ ~~~Another quick lash of her tongue removed the speck of snow that had resided on Skypaw’s nose, the touch causing her to hiss; she despised snow. Or anything cold, for that matter, but regardless, she’d been cooped up for almost two weeks; it was time to get out for once. The sound of her footsteps lightly echoed throughout the clearing, leaving minute paw-prints in the snow. She was an interesting looking cat, her fur ruffles of golden amber and deep chocolate brown, in no particular pattern, just speckles and lines of each colour. However, as much as she hated the frozen drops, they gave her an extra elegance in the moonlight glow; the soft white light bouncing off the small white specks, intertwining with her natural colours to give her an extra level of her ‘beauty’, as to say. A low growl emitted from Skypaw as the snow began to trickle down once more, quickly changing from trickle to mini-blizzard. There was no time to get back to camp now; there was too much snow. Darting forwards through the woods, her nose scented the scamper of a mouse, which was odd for leaf-bare, but regardless, she had to eat. Barrel rolling past a tree in the ever-increasing snowfall, her well-trained eyes quickly rested upon her prey; it was bright white, and not because of the snow, and surprisingly snuck out like a sore thumb. Pouncing with her short-but-well-earned training, her claws came down sharply on the unaware beast, quickly throwing it in her jaws before glancing up at a large tree with a hollow inside, a door-like shape for an entrance beckoning her to shelter. And she did. Panting heavily, Skypaw strolled into the opening, shaking herself and launching snow off of her body. She moved against the far wall of the cave-like room, dropping the mouse and eating somewhat hurriedly, her heart still racing from the quick moves she had made. Around half-way through the small creature, her ears pricked; she had heard something. She watched as the darkness was lit up by a flame – a fire rested in the center of the tree, sparking slightly but lighting up without the tree without causing a forest fire. And as her eyes adjusted to this newfound light, they rested on something that made her heart bounce faster than it had at all before – a two-leg. --- “Don’t be afraid,” Sophie said, watching the small cat leap back, most probably with fright, after she said what she said. Sophie had heard about the wild cats in the Forest, though she wasn’t sure rumours would speak truths, but here she was sat, in front of living proof. The poor cat, who looked no older than a few months, was incredibly skinny, probably due to the lack of hunt in the Winter times. “I’m not going to hurt you, please, don’t be afraid,” Sophie repeated, a grimace coming to her face – as if the cat would believe her. But to her surprise, the small furry responded: “I-I can understand you?” she said slowly, and Sophie nodded, stating simply that she’d been able to talk to cats since she was a little girl. “But…you’re a two-leg!” the cat hissed, now standing back up on all-fours, giving an angry glare at Sophie, who moved back a little with fright now in her. “You cut down our forest! Burn our homes! Kill us all!” she continued, putting strong emphasis on the word ‘kill’, which made Sophie cringe. “Not all of us are like that! I love cats!” Sophie said, rage now in her own tone. The cat hissed again, slowly making her way to the entrance of the tree and stepping back into the snowy grounds, which had died down. Sophie followed her, and as the cat noticed, she began to run off. “Hey, wait, stop!” Sophie cried, but the cat just hissed back at her. “Leave us alone! Stay away, two-leg!” The words flew through the wind and at Sophie, causing her to fall into the snow, a tear lashing from her eye and into the cold wind, flying through the air and landing on the face of the cat, causing Skypaw and Sophie’s tears to mix in the moonlit night.
