Hi! I'm Larrycotter. You might remember me from topics as "The official CCV thread" and "The big september 2009 'what if' thread." I'm going to attempt to write a guide about stalling. Please correct me with the things I'm doing WRONG, and I'll appreaciate your help.
Stalling literally means blocking your opponent from gaining acces to your LP. Stalling is usually done in order to prepare or fullfill an alternate win condition. Venominga doesn't need Stall, Last Turn is banned and Destiny Board is just as good as Jaden is.

Exodia, you might ask? I've recently seen an Exodia Deck that only used 3 Threatenings as Stall, and for the rest +0's. Milling would require other ways of Stalling.

Therefore, a decent win condition that requires Stalling is Final Countdown. When it came out long ago, people liked it and it saw some play. However, one by one, other bigger Decks squashed our poor little friend...Chaos, Six Sams, Monarch, Gladiator, Lightsworn and now Blackwing and Kitty Synchro- They make it impossible for a player to Stall.

But I keep trying, and personally I find myself to win about half the matches I play at tournament, and sometimes I manage to get in Top4. Do not underestimate the meta here in Merksem; it's pretty good.
-1- High DEF Monsters

The oldest and less succesfull of all Stalling methods. Soul Tiger and Gear Golemn the Moving Fortress had their (short) time of glory. My first Countdown Deck ran them, that's why I know they suck (Bolded for those who only read the first line of each part.). However, there is one Monster in this category that deserves to be mentioned: D-Hero Defender. He is Dark and has low attack, making him Allurable and Crushable.

GB: They'll Tag for Murmillo after suffering damage. No.

LS: Can block them for a turn or two, only to be screwed by Celestia or Ryko or Judgment or...

BW: BW's often have low attack, but some of their stronger Monsters and Synchro's will kill Defensive Monsters.

KS: They will wait for DSF and then burn, so they won't really care.

-2- Swarm Monsters

With Swarmers, I mean cards like Hyena, Wolf, Mecha Bunny, Giant Germ and Nimble Momonga. Only the latter is appropriate for a stall Deck, but is still not a good choice in todays meta.

GB: Seems pretty obvious.

LS: They can save you late-game, but can help you thin out your Deck too, which is a good thing.

BW: Swarm VS Swarm. The Offensive Swarm wins.

KS: Same as in -1-

-3- Cannot-be-destroyed-by-battle

Arcana Force 0, Spirit Reaper and Marshmallon are easy-to-find cards, and Gellenduo is also part of this category of Stallers. The first two are easy to destroy or turned against their owner. (A very funny thing with AF0 is something I troll with on WC09. I Creature Swap it.)

Since there are only 2 decent GB players left in our +/- 15-people club, I Main Raper and Mallon. It's something you have to see for yourself.

BG: Same as in -1-

LS: Yes, they'll do. Only their high-level Monsters can break through these.

BW: Just as with LS, BW's have Bora(t), causing piercing damage. Luckily, Blocking Spells and Traps ought to protect you from his attacks.

KS: Same as in -1-.

-4- Bouncers and Spinners

The Most popular include Legendary Jujitsu Master, Wall of Illusion and Kelbek. I prefer the former 2 over the latter one, and the reason why seems pretty logic. These Stall Monsters are my favourites, for they can withstand Gladiators and some of the Blackwings.

Penguin Soldier has also seen some play lately, but please; don't even consider Hade-Hane.

Less favourable Monsters include Neo-Spacian Grand Mole and Raiza the Strom Monarch. The second one seems obvious: Tribute Monsters in Stall Decks are like hobos in your living room: you don't want them there.

Mole is fun to side, but I dislike him. Probably because Jaden used it, but also because he sticks in your hand, and you must Summon him if you want to keep him on the field. The Dark Door might be an option, but...no.

GB: YES! As lolwiki states, they are Gladiator's worst enemies. It will stop their Tagging, and the strongest LV4 Gladiator (not An(d)al, he sucks) is Laquari with 1800. He can go 2100 when tagged, but if you can stop Tagging, who cares? Gyzarius could be a problem, but there are other ways around him.

LS: Celestia and Judgement can nuke them, but you shouldn't fear the other Lightsworns.

BW: As mentioned before, BW's have low attack. Bouncing and Spinning = Anti-Swarm

KS: Same as -1-

-5A- Destroyers

Des Kangaroo, Man-Eater Bug, Old Vindictive Magician and Ryko are the basic monsters in the category. This order, is from bad to good(ish). But, the latter 3 are Flip Monsters, making them slow and unreliable.

GB: Since most of the above monsters will be crushed by GB's, and have Flip Effects, they are not advisable because they are single-use.

LS: Same as above

BW: Same as above

KS: Same as -1-

-5B- Removers

DD Warrior, DD Warrior Lady and DD Assailant. The latter 2 are prefered, otherwise weak monsters could nuke your Warrior.

GB: It will stop their Tagging, but because they're single-use, there are better choices.

LS: You can nuke their strong monsters with DDWL. This is advisable in round 2, because then they will have sided out Mirror Force, Prison, etc.

BW: Single-use, and BW are Swarm. No.

KS: Ah! If they're stupid enough to leave their Kitty out in the open, as a player with too much confidence and wants to prove Stallers are n00bs may do in casual, you can nuke it, removing it and therefore making it inaccesible.

-6- Searchers

I bet you are known with the Elemental Searchers. Their weakness is that the searched monsters comes onto the field in Attack Position, causing your Life Points to become vulnerable for following attacks.

GB: Seems pretty obvious. They nuke your LP, and then Tag Murmillo to destroy your last-searched monster. No.

LS: Since most LS are beatsticks, this is not advisable.

BW: BW's often have more than 3 attacks per Turn if you don't destroy them quickly, so no.

KS: Same as -1-

-7- Footnote on Spear Cretin

As pointed out, 2 Spear Cretins, 1 in the grave and 1 face-down on the field, can lock your opponent by continuously selecting SC as a target with his own effect. What result does that give on the better Decks?

GB: They can get Fusion Materials for Gyzarius/Heraklinos back. NO

LS: They will be forced to Mill if they keep attacking. Keep in mind that you must first check their Grave for Ryko's, otherwise they'll attack SC untill they've got 4 Monsters, and then set Ryko.

BW: Helping a Deck that relies on Swarming to Swarm may seem funny, but it isn't.

KS: Reviving dead Cats and Airbellums?...No.

Conclusion: perform at own risk. Spear Cretin is sometimes a good option, for it can revive Marshmallon and bouncers/spinners.

-7- Blocklocks

These include cards like Magician's Valkyria, Command Knight and Marauding Captain.
-1- Destroyers / Removers

For Spells, Lightning Vortex and Sould Taker are good choices. You won't care about the opponent's Life Points anyway...

As for Traps, the classical Mirror Force and the cheap Torrential Tribute should be able to whipe some monsters out. If you can't get a Mirror Force, Sakuretsu Armor is an underestimated card. Try wether it works for you. If you've got a Dimensional Prison, don't hesitate to try it out.

GB: Since it will leave them without Monsters the Turn after, OR prevent Tagging, these cards are good choices.

LS: If Judgment has nuked the field, you can do this the turn after (IF you survive) you can pay back big time with Spell Cards. The Traps won't hurt him, unless your opponent has Solemned some cards.

BW: Mass Destruction is the way to go against BW's. Once they're stuck without Monsters, they'll need one or two turns to rebuild their army.

KS: If they have DSH out, and haven't Burnt for game yet, you can attempt to get rid of him (or in the worst case: them).

-2- Blockers

Level Limit-Area B, Gravity Bind and 3x Messenger of Peace is a common Stalling Trio. Having one of them 5 on the field wil block more than half your oppenents monsters. Unfortunately, they're continuous. That's why it's good to have something like Threatening Roar or Waboku right next to them. The former is preferred over the latter, due to Gladiators, but against LS or BW, they're basically the same.

I also count Book of Moon, aka the Swiss Pocket Knife, in this category. Book of Eclipse can be considered against GB, but I haven't yet tried it. It probably won't work because Contact Fusion can also be performed with Face-Down monsters.

N00bs might suggest Spellbinding Circle, Nightmare Wheel and Shadow Spell. Each time that happens, a puppy dies.

Last, but certainly not least, are Swords of Revealing Light and Nightmare's Steelcage. The first is a Staple in loads of Decks, the latter can be used if you'd like a second Swords.

GB: It will stop them from attack, thus from Tagging. Unfortunatly, the level-3 beatstick Samnite can go under your Level Limit and Gravity, and then Tag for Bestiari. Swords and Steelcages are good against them, unless they Topdeck Besti.

LS: They cannot attack, but must Mill. BoE can help you if they're close to Decking out. Epic Rofl.

BW: Some of them are low in level. But chainables can sure help against their ST Destruction.

KS: Not attacking won't really hurt them.

-3- Spinners and Bouncers

Compulsory Evacuation Device and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast are Wall of Illsuion and LJM without legs. They're very usefull against GB's and BW, and the latter can say "No way, JD!". It gives you 1 Extra Turn. Only 1. Hope for a chainable, unless you're stupid enough to put Soul Release in your Stall Deck.

-4- Draw Power

Important in every Deck, thus also in Stall Decks. Use Dekoichi (yes, it's a monster), Reckless or Upstart Goblin in triples. But choose 1 of them, not all three. They will provide you with discard fodders.
-Macro Stall-

Basically, they're Stall Decks running Macro Cosmos, Gravekeepers Servant, Caius, DD Borderline and Soul Release. I once tried it; it didn't work.

-Fairy Stall-

Works with Cloudians in combination with The Sanctuary in the sky. Marshmallon and Gellenduo fit into this nicely.

-Yubel Stall-

Since Yubel cannot be destroyed by battle and causes destruction, a Stall Deck can surely be build around him her this card.

-Dark Door Stall-

As you might suggest, this Deck focuses on letting your opponent attack only once per Turn. Cards like Neo-Spacian Grand Mole, Gyroid (WTF?) and Scrap-Iron Scarecrow can be used if you like. This Deck is very sensitive to ST-Removal.
I decided to give this another chance' date=' so I went back to the start, learned that good stall decks are based on Final Countdown and run high DEF monsters, and stopped again.

[/quote']

If you read two lines further, you'd have read that I say high DEF monsters suck.

Anyways, I'm working on expanding this guide, so don't criticize that much yet.

Two more Bouncing / Spinning monsters are Neo Spacian Grand Mole and Raiza.

Nice guide' date=' although, there are also some more stalls. Like 2 Magician's Valkyria on the field or 2 Command Knight on the field.

[/quote']

I must say I dislike Mole and Raiza...

But I'll add all of this.
