Black Metal.

Maybe my bands are "overrated" xD' date=' but they're still kickass bands.

Celtic Frost

Darkthrone

At the Gates

The Black Dahlia Murder

Abnormality

Gorgoroth....

Lol.

They're decent. Except for Darkthrone. I can't stand Darkthrone. Some Burzum is good, and Gorgoroth is GOOD stuff.

As for your list, Gorgoroth and Darkthrone are the only black metal bands present.

Celtic Frost = Thrash... Even though there's some black metal influence.

At The Gates = Melodic death metal.

Black Dahlia Murder = Crappy metal/deathcore.

Abnormality = Death/Grind. Unless you're talking about an Abnormality I haven't heard yet... But, if you're talking about the Abnormality from the USA, they're definitely death/grind.

Ummmm..... I'll admit that Celtic Frost isnt black metal. Its more Heavy Metal....not thrash D:

all the other ive been led to believe are Black metal.....even if most of them suck ass' date=' its all I can think of.

But Tech Death is still mah fav.

Celtic Frost may not seem like thrash, but when they first started, that's what thrash sounded like. And whoever led you to believe the others were black metal led you wrong. Tech. Death is also great stuff, but that's a whole different topic. xD

Also, I noticed you added a few bands to the list. I don't know if Mortifa is a typo or I just haven't heard of them, but Bal-Sagoth and Sear Bliss are AMAZING. Axis of Advance are good as well, but they're not my favorite band in the world.

Well...I kind of guess and listen to the differences between Death and Black Metal bands.

Black Metal- Has alot more High-Pitch vocal sections than death.

Death- Ridiculously Low-Pitched moans and growls (which is why it's so unique and so easy to identify from other music genres.)

And Black Metal albums all look the same.....basically...

A lot of it's also in the guitar riffing and such...

And not all black metal albums look the same. Except for the generic black metal bands... They typically look the same.

I don't care for Black Metal to be honest. I think that Dimmu Borgir is decent, but that's really the extent of my involvement in Black Metal.

My spectrum within the more extreme genre's of metal tends to limit itself to Melodeth and Melodic Metalcore. (I like Arch Enemy, Kalmuh, Amorphis, the Agonist, All that Remains, Straight Line Stitch, Demon Hunter, etc.)

But mostly, I listen to symphonic stuff. (I'm a fan of Kamelot, Nightwish, After Forever, etc.)

Dimmu Borgir is straying farther and farther away from black metal anymore... They started out like melodic/symphonic black metal, but I just don't know anymore. The black metal influences are becoming harder and harder to recognize.

I'm also a huge fan of melodeath. Kalmah and Amorphis are GREAT. Arch Enemy used to be amazing, but they started going downhill since Doomsday Machine came out. For melodeath, I recommend you check out Mors Principium Est, Persefone, and Nightrage if you haven't already.

As for symphonic stuff, I love that as well. Lol. Nightwish and After Forever are SO good. I'm also a fan of some of Theater of Tragedy's material.

Only black metal band I can stand listening to is Immortal because their music is actually well recorded and you can actually hear the instruments.

You obviously haven't delved too deep into black metal... There are actually A LOT of black metal bands that are well recorded and their instruments are clearly heard. Check out Ragnarok, Ceremonial Castings, Naglfar, Vinterland, and Marduk.

As for Immortal... The only album I really could get into was Sons of Northern Darkness. The rest were mediocre, IMO.
