Vanguard Of The Dragon

I <3 this card so much. It's like my duel spirit or something. That or Chaos Sorcerer. But you guys claim that duel spirits have to be unusable, and this guy is very usable, so I dunno.

This guy serves many uses. He's a Drag Tech of sorts, and here are some of my main reasons for running him at 3 in my Drag Deck I'm currently testing.

1: Type

Obviously, being a Dragon helps. He's not one of those out of line support cards like a Dragon that helps Warriors or a Fiend that helps Beasts. As such, he works with REDMD, Strong Wind Dragon, etc.

2: Beatsticking

One discard and he runs over practically any Level 4 monster seeing play. A few more and he is a notable threat. Vanguard can easily exceed 3000 if you play him right and at barely any hand cost(gone into later). The longer this guy stays on the field the stronger he gets, until he reaches an ATK that most monsters just can't beat. Some dead draws go to good use with Vanguard.

3: Safety Wall

Vanguard's last effect can really come in handy. In my deck I've made sure to get a formidable Normal in the Grave, usually by Vanguard's effect. BEWD and Tri-Horned being prime examples. With destructive cards like Mirror Force and Lightning Vortex being prime examples, Van can slightly ease your spirits while you attack, as you can be sure that if they Mirror Force you or Lightning Vortex you next turn, you can bring out an almost or even more deadly monster right off the bat.

4: Hand/Grave Management

If your hand has a swarm feel going for it, Vanguard can help there too. He sends Dragons to the Grave, creating targets for REDMD/Swing of Memories/Monster Reborn if you didn't get a Trade In or the such early on. Vanguard can also prepare the grave for a Chaos Sorcerer, and search out BEWD by discarding White Stones. I don't run these, but you can use him to get cards like Totem Dragon in the Grave as well. And as you do all of this, you're making Vanguard himself a force to be reckoned with.

5: Super Rejuvenation

I love Vanguard for this. You can spend an entire hand to power Vanguard beyond 3000 and get back even more. By using White Stone of Legend and Dark Factory of Mass Production, Vanguard can get in twice the discards for one card. The following is a combo that I oftentimes make first turn that abuses this.

Vanguard, Chaos, White Stone, Tri Horned, Dark Factory, Super Rejuvenation

((I have Trade-In, Reasoning, Summoner's Art and other cards to help get this hand. And I've also gotten variants of this hand that worked just as well, so this really isn't unlikely. Not to mention, I don't even need to have Chaos currently in my hand.))

Summon Vanguard, discard White Stone. Add BEWD. Disc BEWD and Tri Horned. Activate Factory and discard BEWD and Tri Horned again. Vanguard is at 3200. Activate Super Rejuvenation. Draw 5 cards.

So yeah, discuss.

if this was dark

and its effect wrote

"You can send 1 Dragon-Type monster from your hand to the Graveyard to have this card gain 300 ATK. When this card you control is sent from the field to the Graveyard Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type Monster from your Graveyard."

it would be brilliant

however after reading on what youve said its not as sheet as i thot it was

but still reinforces the fact that there is no good generic dragon support, outside of redrum

I am very displeased by this realization, but not discouraged enough to stop using Vanguard. I'll have to play him in a more conservative manner, but he can still be worth it.

I would say only run 2. Since the SR thing. But he is still good for blue-eyes.
