Enrise
who started the term "emo" in the first place? Oh' date=' and my answer is no, I'm not emo, although a few of my friends seem to be. [b']They spend their free time crying, they cry when they hear emotional rock songs[/b] like Your Guardian Angel (I forgot the name) and they sometimes apply a cut to their arm where the pulse is. I don't like to be an emo because I enjoy being at most optimistic. I'm surprised that -Emo- isn't posting here. You know, one of the YCM members, and the one who started the "time to settle something" thread.I wonder why... Bolded = <_< No. Just, no.And I think ~Emo~ is banned? Also, you probably know nothing about emo's. Cause what is bolded, is probably entirely wrong <_< From what I bolded, that is just prejudice. OMGAKITTY
Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a style of rock music typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive' date=' often confessional lyrics. It originated in the mid-1980s hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C., where it was known as "emotional hardcore" or "emocore" and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. As the style was echoed by contemporary American punk bands, its sound and meaning shifted and changed, blending with pop punk and indie rock and encapsulated in the early 1990s by groups such as Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate. By the mid 1990s numerous emo acts emerged from the Midwestern and Central United States, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the style. Emo broke into mainstream culture in the early 2000s with the platinum-selling success of Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional and the emergence of the more aggressive subgenre "screamo". In recent years the term "emo" has been applied by critics and journalists to a variety of artists, including multiplatinum acts such as Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance and disparate groups such as Coheed and Cambria and Panic at the Disco. In addition to music, "emo" is often used more generally to signify a particular relationship between fans and artists, and to describe related aspects of fashion, culture, and behavior.[/quote'] For all of those still wondering what 'emo' is. It has nothing to do with cutting yourself. People who cut themselves are just attention whores.

Huntar!
I look punk/emo, but i wouldn't ever think of cutting myself. My music varies, and I do go around picking fights in school, so I don't think I fit the definition of emo very well, do I? lol
Captain Lawless
I have dark hair, wear dark clothes, and listen to Melodic / thrash metal, but I don'tconsider myself punk, scene, goth, emo. I'm way more upbeat than that, but I tend to letout some emotions instead of bottle them up. I just try to have fun instead of be all pissy and gloomy. JadenxAtemYAOI
I do like MCR and ICP but I'm not emo. I do wear dark colors during the winter and fall because the colors I wear depend on the season or my mood. I'm a spastic, multipersonalityish, and somewhat of a loony toon.
