My mom is mostly like "If you think this is appropriate go ahead and listen, I can't stop you but you better-" That's pretty much the part I turn up my music louder and stop listening.

 

My family's Christian, therefore, I pretty much perform blasphemy by listening to bands like Coheed, Disturbed, SOAD, and of course, the all mighty Metal bands. <3 I was listening to Amon Amarth earlier and my mom told me that it was demon worship. xD Then I played a Christian metal band, War of Ages, and she called it demonic again, just to have herself proven wrong by the fact they are Christian. ;P

 

My Dad really doesn't care what I listen to, so long as he can listen to his music and I don't bother him.

Christian Metal? Christian Black/Death Metal?

There's even good stuff like that out there.O_o

Distubred and Coheed aren't Metal though.

 

Let them try Mortification, Scar Symmetry, Frosthardr, Vaakevandring or Tourniquet (they have a great drummer!).

 

 

Also, listening to a certain band doesn't mean adopting the views and beliefs of that band.=/

People should stop believing that we're naive enough to follow and imitate everything.

 

Try to explain to your mum that the fact that Amon Amarth worship Odin in their songs doesn't mean you're exactly like that too. It's music after all.

Tell her about people reading Narnia, the Lord of the Rings or their morning horoscopes.=P

 

Maybe try to tell her that Odin is just another god. The world is huge and in the end, all these deities just have similar roles, no matter if their name's Allah, Krishna or Osiris.

It's not demonic, just another, quite similar god.=/

It's not demonic, just another, quite similar god.=/ Christianity is a belief that there is only one God. All these other gods are fake. =P It's my belief, as well, but I don't really care, because Odin = Norse mythology = AWESOME.

Well bands can influence listeners with their views and lyrics but it's not always the case. Far from it. You just showed yourself that it doesn't apply to you. Your rents should accept that you're interested into the music and lyrics which happen to be about other beliefs but that doesn't mean you're starting to worship them and going all riot about burning churches.=P

As your said, it's mythology.

Tell them that you're not worshipping Odin and even if you were, there's nothing Satanic about it. It's just another religion and they should accept that but then again, from what you said I guess they're not going to do that so soon.=/

 

Mortification, Scar Symmetry, Frosthardr, Vaakevandring and Tourniquet are all Christianity-based Metal bands. Pretty good ones too. And so are all the guys from Dream Theater and a bunch of other bands.

 

Satanism is only minorly featured in Metal nowadays and many of them are posers (Theatres des Vampires though I like their music). There aren't that many serious, convicted Satanists anymore so the prejudices have kinda become clichéd.

 

 

Meh I'm just trying to help you bro.;) Know a bunch of people who are in that case. Christian or Muslim parents freaking out at other religion-based music but also Atheist parents not wanting their children listen to anything religion-based at all.o.o

 

Damn why are parents even intervening into the music taste of their children.=/

 

(I wonder what kind of uber synchretic religions I'd have if I'd adopt the views of every band I listen to.;D

Hey, it was just an example of a song that my parents (mom and grandparents) would kill me for listening to.

 

I almost want to kill you for listening to Nickleback. Period. >.>

 

Then you would've wanted to kill me when I was 5. I've been listening to nickelback for that long.
