Rap, or hip-hop as some call it, is not always negative, neither is the metal that some oppose. In fact, I listen to both types of music, and depending on which rapper or bad you listen to, the lyrics are different and have different meanings.

 

And before the topic of rap influencing violence in teens takes over, I'll have to say that it is the same for certain metals. However, this is a choice made by the listener who acts impulsively on lyrics, which is stupid.

 

And I can personally say from experience that rappers do take time on their work. Every story is not the same. For instance, Kanye West: He didn't write about a false life, "growin' up in da hood, notin' to eat", or anything like that. Instead, he wrote a rap about his mother; a respectable and uplifting RAP.

 

So could we stop the "rap is not music" nonsense and try to understand each other's differences in tastes of music? Or, if you don't like rap, stay out of a rap thread to prevent flaming and stupidity (that is not directed to anyone).

I apologize for being unclear; What I meant was that most big name rappers (like the previously stated Soulja Boy and posers like him) try to make them appear and sound as the stereotypical image of a modern day wannabe gangster

I know rap is supposed to feature what's written in the lyrics, and I respect that but this is where my opinion is unmovable. We all figured out that you like Rock and Metal and that you hate Rap, but your first posts in this thread were not needed, both of you. You should know what you unleash with that... We had countless other threads about Rap vs Rock/Metal (which all became pretty ridiculous due to massive stereotyping).

 

And Tapion, stop insulting people too and putting everyone into the same pit. In the whole Metal scene, only few bands actually worship Satan or mention him in their lyrics. Don't judge a whole genre on one band, genre, song or stereotype you've heard once.

tl;dr: Rap IS a type of music and so is Metal.

Like any other form of music, Rap also requires effort and not necessarily less work than Rock or Metal. Of course there's a lot of crap in every genre and there's personal likings, but don't put someone else down because he doesn't share your taste.

 

Effort is not only measured by technical virtuosity and a great use of instruments.

It's like when Marcel Duchamp came with his fountain/aka toilet in a different angle, obviously people were laughing and looking down on it. Of course it's not the ceiling of the Sistine chapel and looks like a joke if you compare the technical effort and detail stuff. But does that make it any less valuable as a work of art?
