... They had to suffer Trauma of loss. Kakashi's was awakened, presumably, because of the thought of being a failure once more and losing his team. Same thing goes for anyone else. Sasuke's trauma was losing his brother, presumably because he didn't have Sharingan when the massacre happened.

EMS is obtained by the transplant of another pair of eyes with MS.

Thanks, I guess that makes sense. You'd think Kakashi might have gotten it a bit sooner =/ he did suffer his entire teams death as well as Minato's. And even after Sasuke went to Orochimaru and the Third was killed, it was kind of implied that he got it a bit later (although since they never specify they could probably just (or rather did) go with what you said.

[spoiler=*reads 599* NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO]

[spoiler=HNNNNGGG]

THERE MUST BE AN EXPLANATION.

THERE MUST BE SOME FOR ALL THE PLOT HOLES.

THERE MUST BE A REASON WHY HE TURNED OUT THIS WAY.

AAAAAUUUUUUGGHHH

...on a side note, that chapter made me like the old Obito a lot more, felt bad for him...especially since he had something going with Guy too (what an odd cell he was in, lol).

[spoiler=This is true]

I'm definitely jumping the gun since there's still the possibility it's just Obito's body. The only reason I'm not thinking so is because we got a whole chapter to add more background to him...so I don't think that was for nothing.

He was even given a half-rivalry with Guy to make Guy's place in the fight more meaningful.

Orochimaru's going to be the main explanation for all this. If it is Obito, or if it's his body, Orochimaru is the one who made him/it into Tobi today.

Probably.

[spoiler=My Working Theory Based On Current Events]I am going to bet that there is a lot more to Obito than meets the eye. For example, how he's now kind of reminiscent of Two-Face from Batman. I wonder if maybe he has a similar thing going on like the Zetsus had going on, meaning that Obito is actually 2 characters combining into one body. Plus, there are a lot of inconsistencies with the idea of this being just Obito. No matter what though, the coming chapters will have to do a lot of explaining to give us the full story.

[spoiler=Another thought]

Tobi's more than one person.

The truth that Orochimaru is going to show Sasuke is that the Uchiha clan made Tobi to carry out their ultimate plan of world domination.

So the Tobi fighting right now is not the same Tobi that fought Minato, gave Nagato the Rinnegan, conspired with Madara, and all that crap.

The one flaw is that all these Tobis shared the same power. And the fact that Kakashi has Kamui means Obito couldn't have been given the Tobi eyes after he "died"...because there's no way he was evil before then.

I dunno, I'm expecting there'll be a ton of pages either here, another site, or everywhere when I come back from roller coasters, but I'll think more on it.

It's so funny that

[spoiler=spoilerz]

the original theory is what ended up being true. People kind of said, "It's Obito!" with no proof, and it was quickly dismissed as a retarded theory.

AND NOW IT'S TRUE! And it's actually kind of shocking. I think this is what was planned all along, ever since the Kakashi Gaiden arc.

Meh, not surprised to Tobi=Obito. That's definitely something Kishi haven't thought well through and he's probably gonna end up making a billion plotholes.

How can you say 'definitely'? Maybe he's been planning this from the very beginning and has a good explanation as to it all.

Or he's just drunk and suddenly decided that revealing Tobi's identity as Obito is a great thing to do.

Well, he could pull some explanation like that "Orochimaru reconstructed Obito's body" theory but it still strikes me as odd. But, this is Kishi we're talking about. I guess we'll just have to wait 'till next week to read Kishi's explanation for why Tobi is Obito.

The idea that he's part Zetsu still have some traction, because the scars on his face someone resemble Zetsu's. I say last night that Tobi's face would resemble half of an old man's face, so either someone got their hands on the spoilers face or they made a damn good prediction.

As long as Kishi doesn't make Orochimaru behind everything, I'll be fine.

Obito is Tobi? lol I was still hoping it was Izuna.

I think this is one of Orochimaru's freak experiments.

Orochimaru could have been there at that time, I'm pretty sure he participated in that war.

But what are his motives? I kind of think he was conspiring with the Uchihas to take over the leaf. Maybe more.

I still there is more behind all this... Well he does have Obito's Sharingan, this is true. Maybe he used Obito as a cover up?

He probably thought of the idea after figuring out that he had Obito's memory. And maybe those memories were a little gift from the Sharingan?

But eh...
