Hydra of Ages

David raised an eyebrow, rising to his feet without a word and following at the rear of the group. He wasn't overly bothered that he had not been mentioned by name, or acknowledged at all for that matter, but what the doctor was spouting made very little sense. 'Astral Projection?' he thought to himself. He had not accomplished such a feat to the best of his recollection, but he had a suspicion that at least one of the other odd kids had.

'Damn corridors...' Upon first entering the small office, Jac had found her first order of business was to promptly ignore the bored-looking receptionist and go and find her own way. 'The weird guys said something about a professor, right? I bet if I look around long enough, I'll find him.' However, like most of her plans, this one ended in disaster, and the tomboy ended up wandering around a straight hall that looped around forever. "Argh! Where the heck is-"

And then she saw the small party in front of her. "-everyone?" Dashing over to them, she crossed her arms over her chest, trying to give a mildly-pissed aura. "Hey! Why did ya go off without me? I was waiting there, y'know!" 'Maybe I can pass the guilt off on them,' the French girl thought to herself.

The Doctor chuckled. "My apologies, Jacqueline. The receptionist was supposed to direct you to our location, I'm sure she must have overlooked you." He paused, then smiled warmly at David. "Oh yes, and David, my apologies for seemingly ignoring you at first. As you get older, your mind tends to forget things." He said cheerfully. He opened a door, and began walking up a large metal stairwell. After he climbed a few rungs briskly, with agility that bestrewed his age, he called down cheerfully "Well, hurry up, all".

Markus blinked at the slight eccentricities of the man, but he seemed nice enough. He glanced around at the new member of the group. She was a couple years younger than him, but certainly looked a lot more confident about this type of thing; he found himself shying away to a corner, again. His previous worry was returning; He couldn't hear this one's thoughts either. Was there really something wrong with his ability? If so, what would the Doctor say?

He gulped a little.

David merely shrugged at the doctor's tardy acknowledgement. Better late than never, his grandmother would say. Speaking of which, he found the...he paused, quickly assessing the newcomer's gender. The doctor had called her Jacqueline, but she didn't appear particularly feminine...well, he found her words humorous, rather than the possibly intended effect of discomforting.

"If you were waiting there, you'd have been with us already," he said quietly from the corner of his mouth.

Heikichi was made uneasy by the girl's aggressive entrance.

"Umm...We didn't mean to leave you behind. We're sorry..." Heikichi said in an attempt to apologize on the behalf of the group. The doctor began to walk up a flight of stairs and Heikichi followed the group up the stairs.

The Doctor waved his finger. "The time for questions will come in due time. For now, simply follow me."

The Doctor kept moving, and this time opened a pair of heavy double-doors. On the other side, was a seemingly blank room; The floor was polished tile, looking incredibly clean, but bare. The walls were also blank, as was the roof, except for a tiny square carved into the ceiling, from which light from the sun shown down. He waved his arms at the various Psychics. "Come on, come on, all into the room. Gather around the center, but stay away from the sunlight, please."

Giving a pursed frown, Jac walked into the room, a faint wind pulling her short-cropped hair around in uneasy whorls. Scowling, she rubbed her hands over her head, trying to mat it back down, but was suddenly seized by a bout of curiosity. 'Stay out of the light, eh?' Walking around the square of light, tensed up like a predatory cat, she put her hands on either side of her, and sat down cross-legged.

"So, Doc. Why can't we touch the light? I mean," she added, "it looks like just an ordinary shaft of sunlight to me. And besides, we're not pho... photo..." The word on the tip of Jac's tongue was escaping her. "Photosensitive or anything." She gave a somewhat-cocky smile, as to prove that she was in fact intelligent and not just a hotheaded bundle of girl.

(((AML, shouldn't you write a bit more?)))

ooc: I couldn't think of anything.

IC:

I looked up at the window where the light came from and saw a few thin clouds then looked at Jac, "...", I looked back up at the window and stared. I started thinking then spoke, "the wind of change is blowing, can you feel it?", I looked back at her and waited for an answer.

Seinhem chuckled to himself, and ran a hand through his ebon hair. His wide, green eyes glinted in amusement, as he let a small chuckle escape his lips. "No, indeed you are not photosensitive, Jacqueline. The light itself isn't anything more than plain light; However, there is something in this room that needs that light more than any other of you, I'm afraid..." He said cryptically, still chuckling. He waved his hand, and paused for a second. For several moments, nothing in the room seemed to move; nothing appeared to have changed, until someone looked closely at the light. The light appeared be... thickening, as if it were blotting out the other aspects in the room. And, softly at first, but growing in opacity, there appeared a distortion in the light. It didn't appear as anything other than a simple bending of light pathways, sort of like watching the white surf resulting from two different currents, but it was indeed noticeable. It had no discernible shape, only a mass of lines, like a thin ball of yawn or mass of steel wool. It floated there silently, just solid enough to notice, and yet translucent enough for anyone not paying attention to miss.

"Say hello to him. I call him Rorschach."

"Well, this is interesting." The normally brash Jacqueline was kept silenced for once by this change of events, because she hadn't really seen anything like the ball before. There was that one time at the science museum with the holograms - she had always found those pretty cool - but this was beyond her range of understanding. If she remembered correctly, Rorschach was one of the characters from a comic book. Watchmen, she thought it was. It couldn't be told from her distance, but was it...

"Is Rorschach solid?" Stepping back a bit and walking slowly around the orb, making sure to look at it from all angles, Jac took in the odd sight. "And is it like us? Can it think and stuff? What's he supposed to do and all?" Cocking her head to the side, she looked on with an air of curiosity. This was one of the first times that she could remember where there were this many questions to be answered.

The doctor chuckled a little. "All good questions, Jacqueline. Rorschach is indeed, NOT, solid. In fact, he technically doesn't exist to any of your five senses; In fact, the only reason you can see him now, is a combination between your inherit ESP abilities and the sunlight. He chuckled. "To those who can't see him, look more closely at the light. Do you see the disturbance of his shape?" He smiled a bit, and brushed a lock of hair from his face. "Rorschach is a unique being. He's technically what you could call ESP abilities, without a host; an Unbound Superego, as some call him. Rorschach... can think, but not quite like us. His mentality is more similar to a passive animal than anything else; he understands simple commands, and can work out a little logic on his own, but I doubt he's sentient. He's gotten attached to me over the years, you see, almost literally. If necessary, I can even send him like a messenger, to connect someone's mind with mine... In order to pass a message off in a dream, for example." He said, with a wink.

"Wait, so it's our psycho-ness that's causing Rorschach to appear?" Drifting back into a few well-placed memories, Jac remembered the giant cannon and the fun she had on Ile-de-France. That was one hell of a day, but even then she had no idea where the weird device came from. But honestly, who cares? She just wanted to blow some more stuff up, and would go to a good length to make sure that she could. However, there was always going to be the issue of getting permission...

"So, Doc. When can we start blowing stuff up?" Springing back up from her seated position, Jac walked over to the tall man, looking up at him. "Ya never did tell us who we're fighting against, and ya always need an enemy, right? It'd be pointless otherwise." She wasn't too concerned on what it was, though; she just wanted to know how it'd explode.

OoC: Wouldn't it be easier to read the past pages? There's only 4.

David blinked at turned his gaze to the light, his eyes focusing on the shape present there. A look of intrigue formed over his face and he rose to his feet and, like Jac, circled around, walking in the opposite direction that she was. He was far more comfortable standing than kneeling and so he remained standing when he stopped circling.

(OOC: One Word, accepted. Just come in whenever.)

OoC: What happened so far?

(OOC: Did I mention how much I hate posts like this? I haven't? Damn. Well in that case, I hate people posting to ask what's happened... preferably, just read the thread. If you can't, PM me instead of posting in the thread... In any case, everyone's just got acquainted, and followed the Doctor up a flight of stairs to see an odd ball of energy.)

"You could say that." The doctor said, nodding "If you weren't Psychic, Rorschach would be completely invisible to you.". He smirked. "An enemy? That's a rather inventive mind, if I do say so. After all, didn't I promise to teach you all how to use your powers?" He let himself laugh for a second, then stood up, smirking. "But if you have excess energy, I'm sure I could rustle something up. First things first, who here can't Astral Project yet?" He paused for a second, then looked around. "That's when you leave your body, and start running around like a ghost. I know some of you have reached that degree of mastery..." He said, with a notable glance at Jac.

"If you haven't, Rorschach and I should be able to help. A show of hands, maybe?" He said, looking around.

Markus timidly raised his hand. He hadn't said anything earlier, mostly due to his meekness. He could see Rorschach floating there, in the column of light in the middle of the room, and that comforted him a little; From what the doctor had said, that meant he still had his abilities. "Uhm, excuse me..." He asked, still timidly. The doctor quirked his eyebrow, and pointed at him. "Ah yes, you in the back. You have something to say?"

"Uhm, well, I haven't done this, uhm, Projector thing you're talking about... and..." His voice quietened a little bit. "I can't even read minds right now..." he said timidly.

The Doctor paused, then laughed. "I'd hope not. I'm sure most of your have noticed, your nonfocused mind reading, your Scanning, doesn't work on people with telepathic abilities, or people with proper training. That includes myself and Doris, the receptionist."
