WH40K Complete Set - Witch Hunters (40 cards)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this is my first post, although its only because I've been having activation problems.

Anyways, I have had the time to create an entire 50 card deck consisting of 40 unique cards based on the Witch Hunters from the Warhammer 40K Universe. I am posting here, not to get simple X/10 scores, but constructive criticism. I realise that some cards or card combos may be overpowered, which is why I'm asking for at least semi-detailed responses regarding individual cards or card combinations. It is obvious to see that this deck relies on anti Spell and Trap as well as effect stacking, fairly different from my usual beatdown strategy, hence why your comments will help me suppress the urge to make these cards too uber.

Any comments like "1/10 OP" will be disregarded.

Please help me tweak the balance of each card, of the deck as a whole, any grammar errors, unclear effects, and anything else that might be wrong with them. +1 rep to anyone who can significantly help balance the deck.

Before I post them, I feel the need to state that all character and ability names are the property of Games-Workshop, and that none of the pictures are my own.

So without further ado, here are the cards:

For type clarification:

"Adepta Sororita" counts as "Warrior"

"Psyker" counts as "Spellcaster"

"Soldier" counts as "Warrior"

"Assassin" counts as "Warrior"

"Penitent" counts as "Warrior" with the exception of "Penitent Engine" ("Machine")

All cards are unique in the deck except:

Battle Sister (3)

Sister Hospitaller (2)

Dominion (2)

Inquisitorial Storm Trooper (3)

Mancatcher (2)

Litanies of Faith (2)

Power Sword (2)

And if anyone else has the Witch Hunters Codex, help me make sure I didn't stretch the fluff out too much.

instinctmeister and goldman88, I appreciate you both looking over my cards. But I would also appreciate constructive feedback. They're not perfect, and need to be tweeked. Maybe it's because people just mark this forum as read and ignore it, but 20 hits, 5 being my own, and 2 comments isn't much compared to what I'm used to.

Anyways, fixes that I haven't changed on the cards themselves:

1) It says Magic card on the Inquisitor Lord. Noted.

2) The Penitent Engine ignores a Spell that was designed to affect it. Noted.

3) Light of the Emperor lacks a period. Noted.

hrmmm well im kinda new here but i could still give it a shot if you wanted?

1. personally i dont like the images, i hate cards that dont have cartoon'y pictures because they dont look real, people who use screenshots of games or graphic's, they just dont suit so i'd say try too find more similar pictures.

2. insted of using 'assassin' and all that, use the actual types of the monsters, you had a key up there explaining what kind they were in actual cards, change them to the proper ones.

and i guess thats all i can really say, they're great cards and you've got some good ideas!

@ Azwolop:

1) Pictures for these particular cards were very hard to find. In the cases where I used screenshots for my card pics are only when I couldn't find a decent pic anywhere else that would look right in card form. I'm trying to replicate something that doesn't have much artwork available to use (all the Monsters are inspired by Warhammer 40K models). All of the sccreenshots come from mods to the game Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.

2) The reason I have specific types is because of card effects. For example, instead of adding "Adepta Sorotita" to the names of half of my cards, I put it as their type. The key is so that the effects of real cards still apply to them, while the effects of my cards are still limited to each other only.

@ Jak35:

Lurk around more to find your answer next time, but here is instinctmeister's tutorial:

Here are my thoughts:

Battle Sister: Either lower its level, or increase its DEF, its underpowered.

Sister Hospitaller: Card grammar needs work. Should read "increase your Life Points by 500" not "gain 500 life points"

Dominion: Grammar issue. Should be "Defense Position monster" not "defense Monster"

Retributer: Again witht he gain. Should be "increase this cards ATK by 300 points"

Seraphim: Monster doesn't need to be capitalized

Cannoness: Should read as "Adepta Sororita-Type monsters", not Adepta Soroitas

The rest of your cards mainly follow these same issues.

Thank you VainZiler, these are the kinds of comments I'm looking for. I'll review every card text carefully and boost Battle Sister's defense. As for capitalizing "Monster," it's a personal choice. Spell, Trap, Monster, Summon (and it's sub-types), Phase (ans it's sub-types), and anything else relating to the the cards and the game themselves have been capitalized.

@ kimpossible:

If you are a witch, then I must destroy you! :P

Anyways, for those who are interested, a few changes have been made that I haven't put up yet.

1) Almost all of the cards have had their grammar revamped to be more like the game's grammar

2) Divine Guidance is now a Trap

3) Psychic Hood's effect has been modified and is now an equip Spell

4) Both Psyk-Out Warhead and Lance Strike are now Spells

5) Litanies of Faith now lets you choose between a Spell or Trap card

6) A new card will be added, its effect lets me recover 1 card from my Graveyard for every card in my hand (doubling my hand size). It is replacing 1 Auspex.

That's all I can remember at the moment, I'll add the modifications later on when I have the time.

BUMP for update.

All the modifications above have been posted (except maybe some of the grammar work), and the new card is "Inquisitorial Mandate," although it's effect is not as it was stated, I wrote down the wrong thing.

Still looking for comments and criticism.

The Emperor protects.

EDIT: I just realised that this should be in either "Realistic cards" or "Pop Culture Cards"

Could a Moderator please move this?
