Hello and welcome ladies and gentlemakers,

Allow me to present the return of, if you'll pardon the pun...

The "Good Old" YCM Awards

The "Good Old" YCM Awards

Introduction

Introduction

To clarify, this is not a joke, nor is it a protest, nor intended to in any way belittle the "Midsummer/Midwinter YCM Awards" (hence I waited until they concluded), but rather, it is a genuine attempt by some of my fellow former YCM Awards Council members and myself to reignite the traditional ceremony. Think of it like two forum newspapers running in competition - which, I'll add, is not against the rules, before we are reported again.

My reasoning behind this move is simple. The Midsummer YCM Awards are run by their Council as more serious, formal affair than what my colleagues, listed below, and I consider the idea of an awards system to be all about. Don't get me wrong, I find it good that the Midsummer Awards exist and hope they continue to exist, and I acknowledge their good work, even though I don't fully respect what they see as their "purpose."

Therefore, it makes sense that a separate awards system be begun. This thread shall be the new home of the old Awards, a brief history of which is located below.
The first ever "YCM Awards" were created and run by BS on May 7, 2007. His "YMC Member Awards" thread was well received, but created a bit of controversy for including a "Worst Member" award, that Yugiohmasta444 received many votes in, before the thread was locked for reasons unknown.

Later, exactly 5 months later in September, Johanderson made a suggestion for a yearly ceremony, which was well-received, apart from the "yearly" part. A couple of suggestions for the frequency of the Awards were made before Frunk suggested they be monthly.

Johan had decided to split all the awards into pairs and have different hosts for each, who members were to PM their votes to. This proved too difficult, and the Awards were fully commandeered by Deity Mitsu, who pioneered the simpler voting method.

In order to archive the results, a new thread was established. It soon became the base of Awards discussion, and in it, Frunk became the first to suggest the creation of a Council to manage the Awards, which were rapidly gaining popularity.

The success of September '07 was continued in October '07, but November '07 was skipped due to a number of Council members leaving and general forum unrest in the extended-aftermath of Sartorism (which arguably gave birth to the awards). They resumed in December '07, very strong, but even stronger in January '08. In February '08 seemed to be better still, but Frunk, the host at the time, left YCM, leaving the awards to be salvaged by the Council. A March '08 ceremony was attempted, but failed due to internal issues (which is likely what would've happened had the November Awards progressed).

In April '08, the Council tried a new approach, which was to have the different categories posted in different parts of the board, but this also failed miserably, and the legacy of the original Awards ended.

Nevertheless, a number of revivals and spin-offs [sic] were created, including the now-Midsummer/Midwinter Awards.

Aside from the regular ceremony, the Awards team runs another of other events and competitions. They are listed below:

Membership Battle Royale

After auditioning, 15 members are selected to compete in one of the most extreme and elongated Card Contests ever! Judged by the Awards' Assistants, it's sure to be fantastic.

Here, the most recent awards recipients, as well as all past ceremonies (in spoilers) can be found, as well as other general information about the ceremonial side of the Awards (in other words, the actual event, as opposed to the planning and management of that event).

BehindTheMask - "Spiritual Advisor"

All of us seasoned veterans who have managed the awards beforehand. However, due to the approach I intend to take with these Awards, it is clear that we will be requiring further help, in the form of another 2 Councillors and roughly 3 Assistants, and I'll outline what is required of such members and how they can apply later in this post. First, I'll discuss how these Awards will be run and differ from, or are similar to, both the original Awards that the other Councillors and I were involved in, as well as the Midsummer/Midwinter Awards.

Awards Format/System

- First and foremost, these awards will be intended solely and exclusively for enjoyment. The Council acknowledges and respects the fact that many members use such awards to "honour their friends," and why not? While there will be some things we won't accept, we'll be sure to thoroughly outline them when the time comes.

- The Awards, like old times, shall be a monthly affair. It has always been my opinion that anything longer means that some people will miss out or not be honoured when they should be, and anything shorter is just plain ridiculous. A month allows for the perfect amount of time to "recover" from all the Awards and start over.

- Unlike the original Awards, there will be no confusing process to voting and nominating, as they will be the same thing. You will be able to "nominate" any one for any award right up to the end of the 7 days of the awards. Remember: here, nominate and vote mean the same.

- What's the point of awards if you don't have rewards? The reason the original monthly YCM Awards fell apart was probably because no one could care less. Aside from each winner being honoured by simply being named such, they will also receive some form of basic reward, probably a positive reputation, at the end of the Awards for each award they win.

- As the Awards are a people's choice awards, doesn't it make sense that the people should be involved in the shaping of them? Members shall be frequently asked their opinion on the running of the Awards, and encouraged to suggest any ideas they have for the Council's deliberation.

- Like old times, the winners and other information of Awards ceremonies will be masterly archived for all you history-loving YCMers, like me, out there.

Other things, such as what awards we will be featuring, shall be decided and released soon. Enough shameless promotion? Okay then, let's get down to business. As the title says, we're currently recruiting, and if you want to be a part of the surely the greatest Awards system-to-be yet, you have two options: Councillor or Assistant.
Job Applications

Job Applications

Councillors

While we want the Awards to exist for fun, it is important that they are run professionally, or they simply will not last. We need members who are role models around the forum to run them responsibly and efficiently. You don't need to be a boring so-and-so like me, just civil. It is also important that you are a patient person.

If you fit that bill, you will be given the opportunity to contribute to the discussion, management, planning and development of the Awards' ceremonies, including, of course, the power to have a real say in the council when it comes to voting. If you wish, you can negotiate a reward for services, but we're likely to be accepting those who don't want to be paid ahead of those who do.

In short, to be a Councillor, you:

- must be member who acts civilly around the board.

- are expected to actively and frequently contribute to both the discussion, management, planning and development of the ceremonies.

- are expected to do your best to cooperate with fellow Awards staff to the best of your ability.

- must have patience in regards to the long-term running of the Awards.

- have the power to vote on issues.

- may negotiate some payment for your contribution, but those who are willing to contribute without pay are more likely to get a spot.

Assistants

If you want to be a part of the Awards, but with a more light-on role, then I'm sure the role of an Assistant will interest you. Anybody can do it, but we'll still do some deliberating before we let anybody in. Assistants are expected to promote the Awards when the ceremony is being held, and must also be contactable to assist Councillors with anything Awards-related they need - therefore, you'd have to be at least somewhat agreeable.

We know that many people wish to get things out of their services, so we're perfectly willing to reward Assistants if they so desire, and they may negotiate with the Council what they specifically want.

In short, to be an Assistant, you:

- can essentially be any member.

- are expected to assist in the promotion of the Awards ceremonies when they occur.

- may be called upon by Councillors for general assistance with the affairs of the ceremony.

- will receive payment for your contribution if you so desire, which you can negotiate.

Rewards team

A key planned trait of this System is rewarding members for winning awards. I have a number of ideas of how this can work, and one of them is the giving of commemorative signatures/banners for members. Therefore, a team of members who are competent in regards to graphic design are to be employed, and they will also be in change of giving out alternate awards to banners - like positive reputations - to members who would prefer not to have a banner. Also, it is possible that Rewards team members will be allocated greater roles, as the Rewards side of things does sound understandably tedious, and Councillors and Assistants may double as Rewards team members in some cases as well.

In short, to be a member of the Rewards team, you:

- must preferably be competent with graphic design.

- must be willing to give out alternate rewards to those who do not want graphic designs.

- can quite potentially double as an Assistant or Councillor.

- will receive payment for your contribution if you so desire, which you can negotiate.

Promoters

For a completely hands-off contribution to the system, members may want to consider being a basic promoter of the awards. The obvious way to do this is to include a signature, to be created by another member of the system, linking to the awards for their duration and shortly before they start as well. They will also be invited to participate in general Council discussions, as Assistants and Rewards team members will be.

In short, to be a Promoter, you:

- can be anybody.

- must in some way promote the Awards in the times specified (the rest of the time you have no obligation at all).

- are allowed to participate in Council discussions.

- will receive payment for your contribution if you so desire, which you can negotiate.

To apply, reply to this thread stating:

- which of the above you wish to be.

- whether you would like to receive payment (and if yes, what?).

- why you think you should be accepted.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy.

- any additional comments.

Questions, Comments and, most importantly, Suggestions

I imagine many of you are already dying for the ball to get rolling, so feel free to help the process along. While I've deliberately not told you everything I'm planning and expecting to be part of the Awards just in case it does change, feel free to ask about any aspects of the finished product you want. The Council is also interested in any general comments you have, just as long as they're not brazen. Suggestions are also greatly desired, and the sooner you get them in, the better!

Cheers and thanks for reading, Frunk.

Note: The name "Good Old YCM Awards," along with many of the aspects above, has not been approved by any councillors other than myself, and is therefore not set in stone and is not guaranteed. In particular, that title is in reference of the constant discussion of the "Good Old Days of YCM," which many argue to be around the time of the original awards inception. Trolling or spamming of this thread, or any associated threads, will be frowned upon.

Hey there guys, thanks for your interest. As soon as Azuh and Static give me word, I'll let you know whether you're going to be in.

@ Neon: I intend to give those who win awards some sort of prize, and I very much like the idea of it being graphic design signature/banners (as that would help in the promotion of the awards around the forum). I haven't finalised anything, so I'll be keeping your offer very much in mind! :)

As for Sartorism, it is the term primarily used to describe a number events and discussions, usually heated, that occurred from mid-August, '07, to early September, '07 (though the fall-out or aftermath of it continued on towards the end of October '07) that had a major effect on the forum. As part of the Chronicle (which can be found by clicking the big "Johanderwho?" link in my signature, I'll be posting a chapter on it, which is already 2,200 words long, by the end of the month (I've got exams at school right now which is why it's not done already). In the mean time, you might be interested in the two chapters already posted.

@ Killertrey: Where I said "whether you would like to receive a reward (and if yes, what?)", I wasn't referring to awards, as they will always be decided through voting. What I was referring to was other rewards, for example, perhaps "Reps" or Points - that said, if you want something else, feel free to ask.

- why you think you should be accepted: I can be mature when I want to be, I don't spam or troll (much. xD), I try to use mah grammar skillz, I don't mess around if I have a job to do, and I can keep the masses calm and organized. xD Most of this is up to you to decide, though. I try not to let mah ego show.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy: Making actual trophies or something to put in the winners signature. I can be handy with Photoshop at times. I also like to read, and can definitely read over the many nominations you'll probably receive.

- any additional comments: Nope. I just thought I'd throw myself out for the job. =P

1) I would like to be a councilor. (An assistant or promoter is good too.)

2) No, a reward is not in order. However, if I'm forced, I'll accept. ;D

3) I've been one of the most active members since my registration in February of 2008, and although that hasn't reflected in my posts, it has in the quality of my work and projects. I also think I know the members around here well enough to know who deserves any special recognition, and I'm fair when it comes to judging (as can be seen in some of my old contests.)

4) I'm an excellent writer if I say so myself, but I don't know how this would apply. (Maybe typing something about each recipient. :?) However, I'm also starting graphic design, and I can pixel art, so I could probably make mini sigs or avatars for the winners.

5) Good luck to all members, and may the best be recognized. ;D

Councillor, and if not, then Assistant will do just nicely.

- whether you would like to receive a reward (and if yes, what?).

Yes. I would rather much enjoy in receiving your and the other staff members recognition and gratitude for working alongside you. Nothing could be more of a reward than the start of a good partnership and friendship.

- why you think you should be accepted.

I try to avoid taking my opinions to a bias view as much as I can. I've been on other forums with similiar events such as this one, i'm not exactly the typical new member that signs up to this forum. I'm very well organized, patient, and civil as you suggested a councillor should be. I'm sure I can be very helpful in submitting my own input on the development of this project, including offering suggestions and help decide on tough decisions.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy.

I'm very nifty in the Photo Editing Program Gimp. I know html and some Advanced, some CSS, xhtml, and some other Scripting languages.

- any additional comments.

I feel I did rather well in the YCM Midsummer Awards as I was/am on the council and managed to count all of the votes by myself in one night, performance of which was commented on by Opalmoon and Cyber Altair.

Your powers of observation have always astounded me, Pika. I said that the reasons for the locking of that thread were unknown because in the last post of that thread, made by me, I did not state I was locking the thread, nor, obviously, why. Of all the many acts of moderation I've done for this forum, there are many that I humanly cannot recall.

It is quite possible, I'll add, that, among other possible occurrences, that thread was "necro-bumped" at some stage, the posts deleted by another moderator, and locked, for all I know.

Therefore, I believe "reasons unknown" may stand.

-why do you think you should be accepted: because i trie to the best of my ability to be fair. i hardly am biased, when i am, its more along the lines of food. But anyway in all the clubs i been in, i trie to follow all the rules.

-any creditials/skills that you think will come in handy: i always trie to help out, no matter how many times i fail to do it. i never give up in other words

-any other comments: If im accepted, then you wont be disappointed, no matter what my computer problems are, i will always do my best to help out.

- which of the above you wish to be. Assistant plez. =3

- whether you would like to receive a reward (and if yes' date=' what?). [b']Nah.

- why you think you should be accepted. Because I'm influential, active, and completely insane.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy. You can have credentials on the internet? Does my lack of a life, and therefore more free time than almost anyone on the forum count as something that would come in handy?

- any additional comments. I like cupcakes.

- which of the above you wish to be.

-Councilor.

- whether you would like to receive a reward (and if yes' date=' what?).

-[i']Despite receiving Debating-based awards relatively consecutively; I would rather oblige with not receiving an award.

- why you think you should be accepted.

- A reasonable first impression of my application to council these awards would be my activeness, and/or prior 'leaving'* as being something that would conflict with my participation as a councilor. It is within certain boundary that I can say I do drift these boards rather commonly; despite how ill-frequent I happen to post. In parallel with that, I'd also put forward that unlike some, I seemingly possess relative amounts of common sense; as well as an approving view of most of the members on this site. Basically, I'm a nice, well-thought guy, to whom has conferred with the current council on prior occasions. Also, if it helps, I'm modest enough to voluntarily do this. (Ie. Without reward.) I adhere to being civil and composed during most circumstances, and if given the chance, I shall apply my utter-most "internet" attention to the development of the awards.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy.

-Besides the quality of my home-computing system; my organized nature as well as my genuine work ethic should be more than advantageous for the running of the awards. Plus; I'm not actually submitting an application for any-sort of erroneous ego, either.

- any additional comments.

Not entirely. I believe I outlined my persona and aspiration rather concisely already. If anything, I'd just like to say whether a position is granted to me or not; it's cool to see you guys here again. =P. Especially you, Frunk. Mainly because I've never actually posted with you outside of Summa-crossroads.

*- My 'leave' being a discontinuous-pledge to my frequent-visitation of the sitee. Just to clarify.

Thanks to all of you who have applied so far for doing so. I'm overwhelmed by the response and it appears if I allow too many more, the decision will be very difficult indeed. Therefore, further applications must be in before 3 and a half hours is up! Then, the Council shall make its decisions. Good luck to all.

Cheers, Reece.

EDIT: I beleive everyone has had enough of an opportunity to apply and the Council has enough to work with, but incase we can't agree or still don't have enough, I'll be accepting back-applications until all 5 positions are filled. ;)

Luckily, the 3.5 hour deadline I set up is still open for another 29 minutes, so my friend, you'll be considered as part of the first batch. ;) "Welcome back" Justin. :P

EDIT: To clarify, "reward" does not mean you get a "free awards", but rather, some sort of "payment" (like Reps, Points or whatever else you can think of) for your services.

- why you think you should be accepted: I am a very fair level-headed patient person who doesn't mind sparing some of his time for the computer.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy: Intelligence. I am a legal genius.

- any additional comments.: Well, there si nothing much to say other than my resume above, but I would like to close with this. I am also a people person.

"It's good to be back" Frunk. :P.

Also, my mistake. ^_^". After skim-reading most of the thread, seeing the suffix "ward" lead me to believe that the word was award, and that you were merely questioning whether one would like to remain eligible for the awards themselves if elected to be on council. Asides from that, I edited my post accordingly. :].

To regain my status of Award Councillor, would be my desire.

- whether you would like to receive a reward (and if yes, what?).

The members from back when the original awards were running, will never be honoured as great now, even though most of them made better cards and were just generally better then todays crowd, so yes, seeing as i will never get another shot, a magical 'King of CC' reward would be great for my ego status ^_^

Myself aside, rewards for others needs to differ in these awards, Pos Reps, Points perhaps, supers can afterall make infinite points.

- why you think you should be accepted.

Other then the 2 facts that i was on one / many of the Awards councils awhile ago, and i tried to keep the awards themselves alive, i would have nothing more to add.

- any credentials/skills you have that you think would come in handy.

Im not retarded?

- any additional comments.

Its nice to see them back again, the shoddy attempts after its large failure were, well, failures.

Perfectly understandable. I hope the abhorrently large post at least gave off the genuine impression it should - which is that this return of the Awards will be big and great! :P

Thank you guys, I've decided to forget the whole deadline thing and leave this open for another 36 hours at least (I'll be busy all tomorrow with exams anyway), so you're both, as well as anyone who gets theirs in before that time, in the "first batch" as well. :P Don't worry everyone, I'll get my act together soon.

@ DJ: I must say the fact that you're back means that we could well form quite the Awards dream-team of yesteryear, and that's an exciting thought in itself! :) Welcome back indeed!

However, as I was saying to 2sick4u and a few others, rewards and awards are not the same thing here. Rather, "reward" refers to payment. I'm going to change that word as it's causing so much confusion. Anyway, if you would like any payment, such as Points or Reps, or something else, let us know.

And don't worry about not being voted King of CC - or whatever award(s) we end up choosing for there - as you'll probably have my vote. :P

Its actually great to see some of the older members participating in this

Its defiantly awesome

Wink face.

We could be having quite a great thing on our hands, comrade! 8)

Just so you know, what I mean by "getting my act together", is that I'll give my opinions of each application to you and Static via PM. Then, the pair of you can send the other two your opinions, and we'll go from there until we're all satisfied. :)
