[align=center]If you just want to jump in and read instead of reading through all my technobabble and notices, skip ahead to chapter one to see if you like my story and then read the introduction ;}.

The Cylons were created by man.

They rebelled.

They evolved.

There are many copies.

And they have a plan.

The events in this story take place in the fictional universe of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. For those who are new to the series, don't worry, it is a fairly standalone story that takes place on the Battlestar Pegasus. The events in this story are largely separate from the rest of the story, however, they are connected to the episodes Pegasus, Resurrection Ship and the movie Razor.

Glossary of important terms.

CIC- command information center, the nerve center of the ship

Cylon- originally a robot created by humans as a servant, the Cylons rebelled and a war broke out. An armistice was signed, and the Cylons disappeared. However, they will not remain hidden for long.

Frak- the BSG equivalent of the F word.

Battlestar- a warship that carries many smaller fighters.

Viper- a fast, fighter ship designed for dogfights.

Raptor- a ship slightly larger than a Viper, designed for recon and transport.

FTL- faster than light. Ships with FTL drives can make hyperlight jumps that allow the ships to travel long distances almost instantly. Battlestars have FTL capability, and Raptors have it as well, however, the FTL in Raptors is more limited and they cannot travel as far.

Raider- a cylon fighter ship.

Heavy Raider- a cylon transport ship

Basestar- a large cylon battleship

XO- executive officer, the first mate of the ship

rack- bunk

My apologies for not taking the time to research the chronology of the events in this story. All dates are approximate and subject to change.

[spoiler=Chapter 1]

We were hopelessly outnumbered. It was a trap. The relay station we had thought was almost completely unguarded was swarming with raiders, and without help our first squadron was doomed. We had to retreat, it was the only smart thing to do, recover our pilots and get out of there. But Admiral Caine had other plans. A voice boomed over the speakers, and I was surprised to hear Colonel Fisk's voice. "This is the XO" he said, "launch all remaining squadrons". I felt a sick feeling in my stomach, and I knew I was afraid. "Redeye, redeye, time to go" the chief screamed at me, and I put on my helmet as I stepped into my viper. Seconds later I was in the tubes, launching out of the Pegasus at breakneck speed. All at once I saw them, the raiders, swarming towards us. "Alright, blue squadron, form up behind me" I heard the CAG yell, and I rocketed off towards the oncoming mass of enemies.

3 weeks earlier

"Pegasus-Redeye, you are clear for landing, call the ball".

"I have the ball" I said, and zoomed toward the flight deck, landing hard on the deck and slowly coming to a halt. Frak! The auto-landing system was offline for repairs, as were the rest of the ship's computers. I stumbled out of the cockpit and into the ready room where I sat down. I needed some shore leave, it was about time I got my turn. "Hey Redeye" "Hey Showboat". Showboat was the only pilot left in the ready room, everyone else had already gone to hit the rack. I figured I should go too, and I trudged down the halls to my bunk and lay down. Almost immediately I fell asleep.

When I woke, it was to a deafening explosion. The room was on fire. I leaped off the rack and out the door when another explosion rocked the ship. After my ears cleared from the shock I could hear the sounds of explosions elsewhere. It sounded like the whole shipyard was under attack. "Action stations, action stations" the voice sounded over the speaker and I ran down towards the flight deck. "What the frak is going on?" I asked the chief. "Surprise attack, the Cylons have broken the armistice. They have declared war". Another explosion threw me off balance. I steadied myself against the wall as the ship trembled. I didn't know what was going on but I knew I was ready, ready to defend the Pegasus at whatever the cost.

3 weeks later, relay station attack

I was still afraid, angry and afraid. Even though I would obey her every command, I knew the Admiral was sending us to our deaths. The raiders swarmed around us and all hell broke loose. We had to hold them off so the other pilots could destroy the relay station. I opened fire, winging a raider and it flew towards me, smoke trailing where I had hit it. On its front, a mechanical red eye swung back and forth, that was the last thing I saw before the raider burst into flames. "Nice shot Pizzaface" I yelled over the wireless as I dodged another raider swinging by me. "No problem Redeye", I could barely here my fellow pilot over the roar of the raiders. I set my sights on one and opened fire; it exploded into flames and a rush of adrenaline spurred me on. Then I saw a viper drifting aimlessly through the fight, spinning slowly with smoke trailing from its engines, its cockpit bashed in and blood streaming out of it. On the side of the ship I made out the words "Lt. Hal Dawson "Pizzaface"".

3 weeks earlier

I listened helplessly as explosion after explosion assaulted the ship. "I should be out there" I thought. "I should be fighting". At the same time my rage built I knew that the battle was lost. The Cylons had beat us, and the most important thing now was survival. As if the the Pegasus was thinking in tune with me, we jumped away, the FTL drive hurling us through space and to safety. Yet as we came out of the jump I knew that although we were safe, our struggles were far from over. We were alive out here, but we were also alone.

[spoiler=Chapter 2]

I was lying on my rack and the whole world was spinning. It wasn't because of the attack. I had been trained for that. But now it was over, we were alive, and it was time to think about what had happened. Safe to say, I didn't want to think about it. My family was dead, but that mostly didn't matter. Except for Joey, but he would survive. He was tough. I knew he'd survive, just like me.

Relay Station Attack

Blood splattered the windshield of my cockpit. All around me vipers were exploding, and pilots were dying. But I knew I had to continue. It was my duty, it was what it took to wear the uniform. I moved onward, targeting a raider and hitting it with everything I had. "Redeye, this is FireHawk, we're forming up behind you". "Where's the CAG?" I asked. "You're the CAG now, captain" he replied. I was the CAG. Finally, I could do something like this. "Permission to speak to Pegasus actual" I said over the wireless. "Captain Rumello, this is actual, go ahead" I heard Admiral Caine's voice echoing in my helmet. "Admiral, we need some support out here, things are getting pretty bad. We're outnumbered, if we don't get back up we'll have to withdraw." "No captain, we have to show them that we're strong. We can't back down now. We can't give up. Hold them off, carry out my orders". "Frak" I cursed under my breath and signaled the other pilots to attack the cylons.

I would live. I would live through it all.

Everything was a blur. I could see the smoke trailing out of my engine, I could see FireHawk and Bookworm taking on a raider. I could see the blood on my flight suit. My blood. I could see the crack in the window, the glass on the floor of the cockpit, the burn mark just to the right of my head. I could see the air leaking out of my suit.

"Pegasus Redeye, mission successful, the relay station has been destroyed. Come on home! Repeat, come on home!." Without a moment's hesitation I led my squadron into the flight pods. I leaped out of my cockpit, gasping for air as the Pegasus jumped away.

[spoiler=Chapter 3, Part 1]

There were massive casualties. Of the crew that that had been on Pegasus when we first went into drydock for repairs, less than half remained. But I was still there. As the bodies were carried past me, I wondered, "why me". I guess I didn't have an answer. Admiral Caine walked onto the hangar deck. "Captain Rumello" she called me over "captain, why did you question my orders out there?" "It wasn't worth it sir" I said, "all the death, all the damage we took, all for one tiny station, it wasn't worth it". "Captain" she said, "losing isn't an option anymore, you've gotta go for the kill, and when you do, you can't look back. Otherwise, you won't survive. You know why you didn't die out there captain? Because, whether you know it or not, you're a survivor. But your also still looking at this as a war where we can back out. If we lose, we lose everything, and I can tell, you haven't lost everything yet. And if you lose that, then you're doomed. Doomed to live with nothing to live for, and this victory will give us something to live for".

[spoiler=Chapter 3, Part 2]

As I looked at Admiral Caine, I felt a chill run down my spine, because I had said and heard almost those exact same words 2 years ago. My brother was packing my bags, throwing my clothes, pictures, all my worldly possessions carelessly into a tiny cargo bag. "Sam, what the hell" I had just entered my room. "Your leaving tomorrow" he said. "I know" I replied "but that doesn't mean you have to frak up all my stuff". "Look," he said, I know this stuff means a lot to Steve Rumello, but it can't mean a lot to Steve the nugget. You're going into the military Steve, you can't expect a lot of room for all your possessions. Consider it a favor that I'm helping you hold on to as much of your crap as you can". "Its not crap!" I shouted back, with a sudden rush of anger that wasn't exactly warranted by what Sam had said. "Look Sam," I said, calmer now, "just because I'm joining the military, it doesn't mean my life is ending. It doesn't mean that whoever I am has to be crammed in a sack so I can head off to war, we're at peace now Sam, there's no war, the chances of my dying young are pretty low, as long as I don't frak up". "You see, that's where you're wrong" he replied. "If you're gonna be a killer, you have to put your soul in a sack, otherwise you'll die". "Sam," I said, "avoiding death isn't what I want to live for".

I looked at Admiral Caine, and for the first time I saw the person inside her. "Admiral, I'm not being demoted, am I?" she gave me a hard look, and I stared right back. "No you're not, captain."

I suppose it is short now that you point it out. I didn't notice it at first since when I write I just get a feeling when I want to end the chapter, and since I have designed the story in flash back units, it seemed like the right time to end that part of the chapter. Chapter 3 will be done today or tomorrow, and will have more character stuff, less action, and will be longer. Any more readers/comments?

That was a completely unnecessary post, I have no idea why you felt the need to say that, I don't see why you couldn't have just waited. Anyways, I wrote the first paragraph of chapter 3, and I'll write the rest later. Until then, enjoy.

So the comments you posted earlier were your "proper reviews"? Maybe you should just wait until the whole thing is done instead of continually making pointless posts. I am currently working on part 2 of chapter 3.

{x I'm not writing this just for you you know. I'm saying that if I don't write a little every day or so I won't write at all. I guess I will send you a message when I've written a few chapters, but I'm gonna keep bumping, so stop by if you have any useful comments.
