The last Dark Synchro tut you'll ever need

Recommended Posts

I know what you're thinking: do we really need another Dark Synchro tutorial? However, this tutorial is different: instead of just telling you how to do it, I'll give you everything you need right here - all the Attributes, negative levels, and a Photoshop template with the card frame masked out so you don't have to spend twenty minutes fine-tuning it yourself (unfortunately I'd already made about ten Dark Synchros before deciding to make a template... :x).

First things first, you need the level stars and Attribute. Luckily for you, not only have I rendered all the Attributes for you, I've also created separate images for each level, all aligned and everything (you'll need to resize the stars).

After that, save this template.

Next we will design our card. If you want your card to be Ultra Rare (or want to apply your own text effects such as a holo pattern), leave the card's name blank for now; otherwise type in the name and make sure the rarity is set to rare/secret rare. You don't have to worry about Attribute or Level yet, these will be added manually. In case you're unfamiliar with Dark Synchro OCG, the material monsters are listed in the opposite way from a Synchro Monster: instead of "1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monster(s)", put "1 or more non-Tuner monster(s) - 1 Dark Tuner" (you can also use specific monsters as I will use in my example). Once you're done making your card, we need to tweak the image code.

Right click on your card picture. If you're using Firefox, click on "copy image location"; in Internet Explorer you must click Properties and copy the image's URL (not sure how it works in other browsers). Paste this URL into a text editor. You can see the different card properties and their values. We need to make it say Dark Synchro for the effect type and get rid of the level stars by editing this URL. Where it says subtype (NOT "card type"), change the value from "effect" to "Dark Synchro / Effect" (make sure the spaces are in there). If your monster doesn't have an effect, just put "Dark Synchro". Where it says Level, change the value to 0. Paste this new URL into the address bar in your browser and hit enter. You should see your card with "Type/Dark Synchro/Effect" and no level. Save your card.

Next, open that template I asked you to save. Copy your card and paste it into the template. Make sure you can see the layers on the side (hit F7 if you can't), and move the pasted layer down so it is directly above the background layer. Next, hit Ctrl+U and set the Saturation to 0 and the Lightness in the -50~-60 range (you can make it darker, but it gets harder to read the text). You should see your card with a black frame and a colored border around the effect but no picture. To add the picture, simply re-paste your original card image into the template. Next, drag the layer mask (the black and white box next to Layer 2) onto the layer with your card image (Layer 4). Then delete Layer 2.

Finally, paste the proper Attribute symbol and place it in the correct location. Then paste your level, align it with the card picture's right border and adjust the size. When you're all done, your card should look something like this:

It's a great tut' date=' it takes away the annoyance of having to meticulously place every single star perfectly and carefully dodge desaturating the attribute. Thanks.

There is a much easier way of doing it you know >_>

EDIT: YCM doesn't have a LV0' date=' only has LV1[/quote']

Read the tutorial again.

Good tut' date=' i will be Using your Level stuff, and, make them bigger, or it Doesnt Work & Dark synchros level can only go up to 11.

[/quote']

Dark Synchros can go to level 12.

Technically, the minimum is -11 (Level 1 non-Tuner - Level 12 Dark Tuner = -11). I included -12 to cover alternate summoning conditions. I made a Level -12 Dark Synchro where you remove the material monsters from play (like VWXYZ monsters), and their total level is 12, the opposite of the Dark Synchro Monster's level.

And to spider, what do you mean it doesn't work? I used the standard 18x18 stars that EVERY Dark Synchro tutorial uses. It's not too hard to resize them yourself. Although if you're too lazy to do that I can resize them for you...

No, there isn't. How can there be an easier way of aligning stars and keeping the attribute colored than copying and pasting them? And I don't understand your comment about the outcome not looking good. I'm looking at it right now and it's perfect. What exactly is wrong with it?

Dark Synchros can go to level 12.

Then you would have to have a level 13 monster. and a level 1 dark tuner.

Cool stuff!

Now I don't have to put the stars in correct alignment :)

4 a LV1 user' date=' that's not bad at all :)

(But I have one question about the temp: is it possible to make this an .xcf file? Not saying that the psd is bad, though)
