OMGAKITTY
And as far as I can tell, making a tut on cards isn't against any rules, although I'm sure its been done to death. Oh well. Back in the day, I used to be considered a pretty good card maker. I will now share my secrets. Here is an easy way to make most of the realistic section think you're super pro at making cards. 1. OCG, OCG, OCG!OCG makes up pretty much 60% of a card. OCG will be the first thing most members look for errors in when they view your card. It doesn't matter how balanced or creative your card is, if your OCG sucks, that's the only thing anyone will comment on. So make sure you have correct OCG. ...I was going to post a link to the OCG thread, but I haven't been in Realistic in awhile, and it seems to have been moved. But you should find it and look at it, because it's a great resource for OCG. The other place you should go (for things not covered in the OCG thread), is yugioh.wikia.com. You can search cards there and look at the OCG. 2. Here comes the fun part...the effect itself. Essentially, you can break it down into three parts.A. Summoning ConditionsB. Main EffectC. After Effect (an effect that activates when the card is destroyed) Lets look at an example.
Mainly, lets look at its effect:This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 1 WATER, FIRE, EARTH, LIGHT, and DARK Dragon-Type monsters from your Graveyard. This card cannot attack. Select an unoccupied Spell & Trap Card Zone on your opponent's field. As long as this card remains on the field, your opponent cannot Set Spell or Trap Cards in the selected Spell & Trap Card Zone. Your opponent can pay 500 Life Points to draw 1 extra card during his/her Draw Phase. When this card is destroyed, roll a 6-sided die, and Special Summon 1 WIND Dragon-Type monster from your hand or Deck whose Level is equal to or less than the number rolled. Wow, that's a lot of text! It looks really impressive, doesn't it? But lets break it down: A. The Summoning Condition:This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 1 WATER, FIRE, EARTH, LIGHT, and DARK Dragon-Type monsters from your Graveyard. B. The main effect:This card cannot attack. C. After effect:When this card is destroyed, roll a 6-sided die, and Special Summon 1 WIND Dragon-Type monster from your hand or Deck whose Level is equal to or less than the number rolled. 3. BalanceThis is important. This is pretty much the other 40% of the rating. Even if you have perfect OCG, if your card is ridiculously OP, then it won't get good reviews. But don't worry! You don't actually have to know the current meta or...really, know anything to make a card appear balanced. Lets go back to Bun-Dian and see how I "balanced" it. To start off, Summoning Conditions are a great way to start curbing off those pesky over-powered effects. As you saw with Bun-Dian, I put that you had to remove from play 5 different Attribute dragons from your Graveyard to get this guy out. That's not too easy, although if you run a Dragon deck, its not overly hard, either. So pretty much, this whole part A of the effect is used to "balance" the card a bit. Now lets move onto the main effect. Right off the bat, I put that this card cannot attack. Well, that's certainly a pain in the butt. You just spent all this effort bringing this guy out, and he can't even attack! The rest of this effect better make up for these disadvantages. Well lets see now....the main ability of this card is to limit your opponent's S/T abilities. (side note: two things you want to be very careful about when making effects is things that relate to Spell/Traps and drawing cards. Its very easy to make a card OP using these two things). Well that's a pretty handy effect! And even though Bun-Dian can't attack, its still got a healthy 2500/2500 so it can hold its own against most monsters in battle (note, I gave it high ATK/DEF, but its "balanced" because the poor sucker can't declare an attack anyway). But still, I'm not sure that makes him balanced. He's a pretty good wall, and he's limiting S/T. So to be safe, lets add another effect: your opponent can draw an extra card...at the cost of 500 LP. Uh oh, I might have made him UP now...he's still vulnerable to attack by stronger monsters, as well as the other 4 S/T slots...which brings us to the After effect: Well, you may have killed Bun-Dian, but he's calling friends! After your opponent finishes Bun-Dian off, you can pretty much instantly gain another monster to the field to either defend your LP, issue a new attack, or become tribute fodder. A die roll means you can get anything from utter crap (rolling a 1-4), or something halfway decent (5,6). In the end, no matter what you roll, having an extra monster on the field is handy. If nothing else, you can tribute right away and bring out a stronger monster. 4. Creativity:After you've mastered making long, perfect OCG effects, your next move is to make your cards creative. That means switching up on Summoning Conditions (nomi's are boring...how about instead of "This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set", you put something like, "If this card cannot be Set. If this card is Normal Summoned, halve its ATK and DEF", or "This card can only be Special Summoned when your opponent has 3 or more Spell Cards in their Graveyard"?). Pretty much just look for unconventional ideas.
When this card is Summoned, Special Summon 1 "Anarchist Token" (Beast-Type/DARK/2 Star/ATK 500/DEF 0) in Attack Position in all unoccupied Monster Card Zones. All monsters are switched to Attack Position and cannot change Battle Position. "Anarchist Tokens" cannot attack directly, cannot be Tributed, and their ATK and DEF cannot be increased. Whenever a card with the words "Law" or "Judgment" is played, destroy it. Whenever a player declares an attack or activates a Spell Card, the attacking player tosses a coin and calls it. If the he/she calls it incorrectly, the defending player can choose a new target for the attack or Spell Card Effect (including the attacking player). When this card is Summoned, double it's ATK and DEF. During your End Phase, decrease your Life Points by 500 for every monster you control besides this one. Once per turn, you can remove from play cards in your Graveyard equal to the total number of monsters you control to place all monsters you control under this card. This card gains 200 ATK and DEF for every card under it. When this card is targeted by a Spell, Trap, or Monster Effect, remove from play 1 card under this card and negate the effect. And there you have it. How to make other people think you're a pro at card making in 4 easy steps. Link to comment

OMGAKITTY
Well >_> Effect>>>>>OCG>>>>>Pic that is what I think. That would be true for making legitimately good cards. But for getting good reviews, OCG comes first. Link to comment
