Insult

Basically everyone I know in real life who refers to themselves as an otaku are the most annoying' date=' ignorant SOBs ever. I also find that many people I find online who consider themselves otaku are some of the most annoying, ignorant SOBs ever.

[/quote']

I find that kind of funny since one of your banners advertises the Otaku club. XD

I don't really call myself an Otaku, but it's the only general anime club that I could find that blocks those that only love annoyingly bad shows like Naruto and Bleach

... You're on a site based around creating fake cards for a children's card game. You've skedaddled way past childish.

And if you want mature anime' date=' there is...

Gantz

Girl's Bravo

Elfen Lied

...

...

and some other stuff I can't mention on this site.

[/quote']

Gantz

Nobody at my school's a visible otaku (except me), so the term doesn't get thrown around a lot. Eh, I consider it a compliment.

In Japan' date=' [b']Otaku is an insult, no question. It comes from the word otaku[/b], which is the honourific term for someone else's house, i.e. otaku's are losers who don't leave the house.

Lol.

As in, it comes from the word taku with the honourific o added because you're honouring the other person's house etc. In Japanese, they are kind of seperate words because the nerd kind is written in katakana (used for foreign words and sound effects and such) and the "proper" word is a kanji (chinese borrowing (although the o is in hiragana))

Uh, the Lol was referring to the bolded. Meaning, you just repeated the word twice, saying Otaku comes from itself <.<

お宅

Gyrus is referring to that. "お" = hiragana, "宅" = kanji.

Marvel, yes.

But what Amethyst said was in no way retarded.

  • 2 weeks later...

Otaku (literally, the Japanese real use) = someone who never leaves the house due to an obsessive hobby ex. mangas

Otaku (North American/European use) = someone who loves anime/manga more than the average person.

Therefore, it is supposed to be an insult, but it changed to a name for a person. I prefer the NA usage, as my name is Otaku-sama and I am not an obessive anime fan.
