Thesius
What lv is your pokemon now because I think that Hyper Beam is best on an other pokemon and wait for the Ulta Fire Move that you can teach your fire starter Hyper beam is best on no Pokemon. I'll probably go with HG because of the ability to catch Growlithe. Can I find a fire stone before I beat the E4?
Clair
So my Quilava just evovled and I had so tm's in handy. So heres the moveset. Hyper Beam' date=' Protect, Focus Blast, Lava Plume Any ideas?[/quote'] -Protect-Hyper Beam H Beam is terribad, because it wastes a precious turn.Protect isn't really helpful and clogs up a moveslot. Clair
@Aximil: Yes. Protect is very useful in competitive play. ^^ It's worthless in game. There are better moves for Typh. :/
Xing
How is protect useful. You just waste a turn. You don't gain anything, unless they're poisoned or burned, but that's not that big.

You don't gain anything' date=' unless they're poisoned or burned, but that's not that big.[/quote'] You get to see which move they know, which could often result in you knowing it's whole moveset and item and nature and how it's EVed. If you knew anything about competetive battling, you'll know that that will give you a big edge.
BehindTheMask
Protect is good, because A) It allows your opponent to lock themselves into a move with a choice item allowing you to predict easier/force a switch. B) It gives you left over recovery C)Poison/Burn D) Explosion lulz E) scouts a move F) PP stall
Aximil
D) Explosion lulz Send out Swampert against their low health Metagross/Genger. Use Protect while they Explode and laugh your ass off.

I would laugh my A$$ off using that move until it ran out of powerpoints. Anyway if anyone needs codes made by the pro hacker then post here or PM me and BTM would you mind being in a pokemon hacking club with me on here. I provided a sprite editor a page or two back. It edits who you play as in the game. I've also got an EV/IV checker for you competitive players to use

Flame Dragon
I never really found a reason for Protect. I still don't like it. That's because you don't do competitive play. If you did you'd see it's a lot better. I've only ever used it on a couple pokemon but it helped a lot.

Me, Flame Dragon, and BehindTheMask gave you over a dozen examples of why it's good.
Cin
Beat the E4 and on my way to battle Sabrina. Lance was painful I had to Max Revive my Froslass after it got killed with FireBlast from a Dragonite. Gyarados was problematic and half my team was suicide fodder....I sent out my near dead Ty (I can't remember why it was near dead) just to revive Froslass and it did kill a Dragonite. Protect makes me cringe when I think about it. In XD, the Explosion/Protect, Earthquake/Protect combos. I can see why it is useful in Competitive battling. (Even with the Computer/In Game examples) Team is 53/

HitoKage
Can the Pokemon that are in-game trades be shiny? Also, what about the Electrode at Rocket's Hideout in Mahogany, though I'm pretty sure those can be.
Anti-Apocryphal
It was obvious that after Platinum (and Arceus =O)' date=' they could not make a 5th generation. Too obvious. If you did not know that, go suicide because you are an idiot. Seriously, Arceus is God. What comes after God, except maybe the Devil? But Darkrai/Giratina cover that. So just suicide, you idiot. No 5th gen. It was also obvious that Gold/Silver remakes were in the horizon.
