I liked FFIV too, but the gameplay wasn't really anything too original compared to other FF games released around the same time. (FF6 in particular.) On the contrary, FFXII is completely different from the rest of the games in the series, so that's also one of my favorites. xD But FFVIII is, and always will be my favorite. I figure as long as names are to remain the same at all times, I should maintain the one I was best known for. Honestly though, I dunno why people make such a big deal of this - it's just a damn name. I think I'm kind of glad that Darth shut down the name changes, since that means I don't have to worry about any more idiots with all those random as hell symbols in their names showing up. -.- That's just annoying to look at.
