My list has changed somewhat:

1. Paranoia Agent

2. Monster

3. Hunter X Hunter (2011)

4. Hajime no Ippo

5. Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

6. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Season 1)

7. Welcome to the N.H.K.

8. Neon Genesis Evangelion

9. Boogiepop Phantom

10. Mushishi

Hajime no Ippo was a hard one to rank. I may move it down to #5. I still need to re-watch Cowboy Bebop, Welcome to the N.H.K., Shiki, Mirai Nikki, Now and Then(,) Here and There, Monster, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Berserk, Code Geass, Clannad: After Story, and Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day. And probably Fate/Zero as well.

Nothing too big a change just... real glad I found Rayearth. Starting the long road to rereading Hayate though, so hopefully one day... I'll actually catch up again. ._.

Here's my update; the "?" in the numbered list means that I either need to re-watch it to better rank it or, in the case of #6 and #7, I'm not too sure of my ranking, and the second list is stuff that could likely breach my top fifteen/twenty after I re-watch it. But my top ten is pretty accurate.

(?)1. Paranoia Agent

4. Hunter X Hunter (2011)

5. Hajime no Ippo

(?)6. Mononoke

(?)7. Great Teacher Onizuka

8. Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

9. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Season 1)

(?)10. Neon Genesis Evangelion

(?)11. Welcome to the N.H.K.

12. One-Punch Man

(?)13. Boogiepop Phantom

14. Mushishi

(?)15. Yu Yu Hakusho

16. The Devil is a Part-Timer

?. Steins;Gate

?. Serial Experiments Lain

6. True Tears, Hanasaku Iroha, Tari Tari
9. Tamayura
10. Sketchbook

I need to do more manga reading though, because this is the same:

Hm, it has been a while, let me think.

1. Baccano (A recent rewatch proves this show is still the funking best god I'll never stop loving Baccano)

2. Shirobako (A more recent rewatch proves this show la lal al al la la la la I'll never stop loving Shirobako)

3. Kara no Kyoukai, if I have to be specific then the fifth movie (Somehow it felt a little less amazing when I gave some of the films a rewatch. Still appreciate it a lot though)

4. Denpa Teki na Kanojo (The directing style floors me. It feels like a typical mystery light novel from a few years ago but the directing keeps it amazing).

5. Superdimension Fortress Macross (Mad respect)

6. Heartcatch Precure (Recently finished, loved a lot, can't think of many flaws for a little girls' show)

7. .hack//SIGN (The finale weakens it, understandably)

Can't be bothered for the last 3.

1. Kino no Tabi (prefers the LN a lot more but this is still my favorite)

2. Super Dimension Fortress Macross (not much need to be said)

3. Eureka Seven (best couple ever)

4. Jutai Kokuchi (Probably still one of my favorite lost in another world story)

5. Fate/Zero (Well, not much to be said, really)

6. Aoi Bungaku (their adaptation of Run, Melos and No Longer Human is superb)

7. Blue Gale Xabungle (weird choice, but it's one of my favorite retro anime)

8. Revolutionary Girl Utena (favorite mahou shoujo, if this even counts)

9. Your Lie in April (not much need to be said)

10. Danshi Kokosei no Nichijou (based Bombergrape)

not counting manga, movies/ova series, and anime-like mediums.

We doin' reasons now?

  1. Aikatsu! (longest shoujo I've ever seen. Unless you count all the Precure in one like I am. For me, the gradual build up actually works in it's favor far more than I've ever seen in shounen that actually end up taking this long... or longer. Also idols)
  2. Precure (Since I'm up to date... and most of them don't have as huge a flaw as Suite... Dokidoki comes close, technically, but I don't really mind it)
  3. Clannad (emotional jet coaster)
  4. Kokoro Connect (same as above?)
  5. Angelic Layer (Never thought I would like a completely tournament anime so much... and really, this is adaption expansion at its finest)
  6. Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (funniest ever... makes fun of all sorts of manga related things... and I still feel a tinge of desperation... I mean, I really want dat romance to do something.. though clearly won't)
  7. Love Live! School Idol Project (I just love being cancer. Also idols)
  8. Zettai Karen Children (being a good X-Men anime before there was an X-Men anime)
  9. D-Frag! (funniest ever... retorts)
  10. Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue (This really inspired me... inspired me to watch more anime... so it gets to just barely make top 10 for a small bit... and after this break I hope to come back in full force and live up to ever having used Nagi as a name)
  11. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (this comes from right when it ended and it was probably in my top 5... a time when Hina said it was basically her favorite thing in any meduim, or at least sounded like it would be pretty close to that. And I do still agree, it is better than Toradora overall)
  12. Toradora! (...what? You thought I wouldn't have THE romance in at least my top 20 I'm doing for no reason?)
  13. Your Lie in April (not much needs to be said. Especially after same as Clannad)
  14. Hayate the Combat Butler (well... my random findings did introduce me to my favorite manga)
  15. Kanon 2006 (it did introduce me to the emotional jet coaster that is Clannad, and is a fair bit of one itself)
  16. Yuru Yuri (let's just throw out my quick succession of comedies, it is my fav genre overall)
  17. Seitokai Yakuindomo (I really shouldn't, but...)
  18. Nichijou (that was those comedies)
  19. Tari Tari (idk... I guess, it's just really solid without really even doing the romance)
  20. Beck (well not normally my kind of music, but definitely don't dislike. Not to mention, anime makes everything awesome?)

I knew my reasons would be longer, damn.

Let's see:

Anime

1. Aria (its just a perfect anime for me, a slow paced, peaceful and happy SOL)

2. Love Live (anime with best set of characters that is awfully easy to get attached to)

3. Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de aru (its a perfect mix drama and sol, with nicely balanced of comedy and drama)

4. Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V (best yugioh series with actual interesting plot and relevant side characters...the other arent even comparable)

5. Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?? (I love cute girls doing cute things anime...and this is the best one)

Manga

1. Doraemon (despite being kid's manga, its really interesting seeing how futuristic gadgets interact with normal life is never boring)

2. Detective Conan (While having crazy amount of filler and repetitive....the main plot is really good)

3. Saki (Its just like yugioh, normal game made intense, except this one is much crazier, making a game that look boring feel intense)

4. GakkouGurashi (Cute Girls doing cute things + Zombie Apocalypse...perfect)

5. Tsubasa Chronicles (Multi-world adventures filles with cool characters)

OMG another Aria fan!

As for my favorites... to be honest I need to rewatch them so I don't really have any right now. Except the Monogatari Series. I love the Monogatari Series. And Aria.

I could be wrong, but isn't your entire list slice-of-life series? I'm not trying to sound insulting, but I always encourage anime watchers to explore all the genres (although horror is a rough genre with anime). Plus, with slice-of-life series, Welcome to the N.H.K. is really good and if Ping Pong: The Animation counts (I feel like it does; it's not really about the sport), then that's a very good series as well. I've watched Clannad, and I always recommend people who've watched it to try Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.

Well to my knowledge in that list, at least some of the second one, the fourth one, maybe the eighth one, and the thirteenth one pretty much aren't. I'm not sure if Clannad or D-Frag count either. And even then, the ones I've seen from that list, many are really varied and different from each other. And more importantly there's nothing to suggest the poster hasn't watched shows of other genres, just that they don't rank in their favorites list.

Yeah, mostly... Zettai definitely not, especially with me labeling it as X-Men, but I could see everything else as having a lot more of those elements. However, there are some that may seem like it, but are more drama or just plain too out there, kind of like what Mitcher has already said. I would still say Beck is SoL, but just on the fairly dramatic side while Your Lie in April, is like I just mentioned, too dramatic to count.

[spoiler=Just seeing how I think they're actually more like...]

Aikatsu - Fair. Nothing especially out of the ordinary in the grand scheme of things

Precure - Well... really... besides the obvious fantasy element, pretty much the most action packed magical girl franchise I've seen, however there is a lot of average things episodes get centered around

Clannad - Yes. I would say it counts

Kokoro Connect - Arguably... I mean, it must have SoL on MAL for a reason. There is a more supernatural aspect than Clannad, but it handles it in such a way that I just can't argue, personally

Angelic Layer - Tournaments. It is fighting (but with toys), it plays the battles out very much like a sport in a stadium. With that being the center point, it really is more like a sport or some kind of game anime most, which isn't what you'd usually count as SoL

Nozaki-Kun - Well... I sometimes have trouble telling if some the the absurd things that happen in comedies at times should count. Nichijou definitely blows everything out the window and that still counts, but this isn't listed on MAL. I don't really know, I was going to just say "Through and through" so... that

Love Live - Yeah. Like Aikatsu, it's idols, only it really is more normal, so can't argue there

Zettai Karen Children - Already said all I needed

D-Frag! - Yeah, I didn't think I could count this either. It's obvious how people would think it was, but it's clearly just as absurd as NIchijou, so... going with MAL it says it isn't. A little confused here

Aokana - Fairly dramatic, puts all the emphasis on a sport. A made up sport, but a sport nonetheless

Sakurasou & Toradora & Yuru Yuri & Seitokai & Tari Tari & Beck-  I don't really need clarification on how obviously SoL these ones are, but I checked just in case

Your Lie in April - Some things are, as already said, too dramatic to count

Hayate - I would say it places the parody game far too often with some hilarious, but legitimate action all the same too

Kanon - Same as Clannad. Somewhat supernatural, but less so than Kokoro, so I'm kind of forced to say yeah. I mean not like a really mind admitting.

13/20 more than half. I do have a predisposed interest in a more modern setting, not necessarily realistic, so that must certain explain a lot.

And yeah, others mostly don't rank personally, but I can really enjoy them. Currently really enjoying Kuroko's Basketball into the last season now. Always find a way to enjoy an action when there's a season I'm more into than this current one. Anohana (not sure where that stands on the whole Slice of Life actually. I'm kind of of the opinion that it is too blatantly supernatural unlike what I've already mentioned, but if it is then I'm kind of just acknowledging that I've watched it and will take your other suggestions to mind) is quite feelsy (I think I cried more at the end of the movie than my first watch of the series).

Oh and JoJo is essentially a masterpiece. I know I said it wasn't really that great writing wise in that other thread, but apart from how enjoyable it is, I forgot to include the fact that it does do battles in plenty of different ways from the norm with some of the stands there are. Since it is technically one huge story, though I know from reading a little about it and first hand experience with the first 1-3, every part kind of pulls some main genre difference a la movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe... once Part 4 ends and I watch it, I still have hopes I'd enjoy it so at that point, I think it could seriously knock down at least a couple (even with me really not appreciating Part 3's toilet humor). I thought way too much about this... well I kind of think it was worth it, for some reason.

The thing about D-Frag is that it HAS a plot. Every of its story arc has a clear beginning, buildup, and conclusion. Sure some chapters are fairly relaxing but the most memorable moments and the majority of the manga/anime are from story arcs. It's just that the stories themselves and the premise of each arc is absolutely ridiculous and sometimes arbitrary and the manga accepts that and runs with it while throwing out retorts like there's no tomorrow. Its a brilliant comedy, probably one of my favorites and if my list included manga it'd be in there somewhere, maybe. But definitely I can't view it as an SoL at all, it just doesn't fit.

Yeah had I given that particular thing more thought though, I do believe I would have at least mentioned it does indeed do the plot. Somehow. Understandable to not exactly know, like I said, but it's totally something.
