Would be nice to have one of those' date=' huh?

By the way, I've checked, and in Japanese, "Hentai" has nothing to do with porn/anime porn/pervert. It actually means "strange or anomaly"

Yuri means lily. Thus, why you see many Japanese people named Yuri.

And in anime, I've heard many characters say "hentai" meaning "pervert". It's pretty weird.

Yes, you are very correct in your statement. The term hentai is wapanese; a Japanese would never understand what you want if you are asking for "hentai". "Ero" is the way to go. (not that you need to ask for directions to it ; D)

Or perhaps "Ecchi", which interesting enough, is the Japanese pronunciation of H... from "hentai". ^_^ So westerns has contributed to create one of the most common words in anime/manga.

Hello, by the way, I am home from Japan. : D

Two weeks of pleasure for everyone, except my wallet.

Holo bed sheets, two large figurines, two small, new hugging pillow, wall scroll, t-shirt... <3 Spice and Wolf <3

On the subject of favourite genres, I would say it is romance/magical girlfriend. However I have yet to seen no really good series under that category. My two favourite series "Spice and Wolf" and "Initial D" might fall under (some wierd) "realistic"-category.

But I do enjoy a good laugh like Full Metal Panic Fumoffu!, Hetalia or Majokko Tsukune-chan. : D

It has a simple reason. As earlier mentioned it means "abnormal" ~ "different". In Japan, being different or having "different interests" is a "bad" thing. So when the girls shout "hentai" they mean "you, who is differently more perverted than the normal guy".

That is at least my conclusion, based on my experience. : 3

I seriously doubt that you will learn the etymology of Japanese words wherever you study Japanese. >_>

Regarding H - ecchi, I think I read that at wikipedia. : p

Holo is very knowledgeable.

*bows*

Holo-sensei' date=' you are wise.

I want to learn Japanese someday...

Besides basic phrases.

Spending a couple hours a day playing visual novels gives results. ^_^

Living in Japan for ten months also.;D

(orz <- Japanese smiley for bowing)

Learning basic Japanese (not phrases) is not so hard. There are less than ten irregular verbs, in comparison to English's 200. Nouns have no plural form, or any form at all.

Basic grammar is also easy to overcome.

The hard parts with Japanese is the Kanji (learning ~2000 is most utterly disencouraging) and the particles perhaps. (There is text books only on the subject of particles and they are not that many). When moving to advanced levels finding the right word can be hard (especially in language white zones).

But, on basic level Japanese is very easy to learn. ; D

Go for it! Ganbare!

I attempted to learn Japanese with the help of those "Learn In your Car" CDs, but I didn't feel I was really getting anywhere. Only problem is, I won't be able to convince my parents to let me take Japanese lessons if I don't learn from the CDs.

I doubt it. Chinese and Japanese have very litle in common' date=' or so I heard.

[/quote']

Rightly so. Japan isolated themselves for about 1000+ years, so the primal Chinese that Mandarin and Cantonese descended from evolved completely differently in Japan.
