Death Note has been optioned for a live-action Hollywood remake. A 2007 article in The Star (Malaysia) states that more than ten film companies in the United States expressed interest in creating a remake.[26] Vertigo Entertainment is currently set to develop an American Death Note remake.[27] In April 2009' date=' it was announced that WB had acquired the rights to make a live-action version of the manga, and had hired Charley and Vlas Parlapanides to adapt the script. The new film will be based upon the original manga series rather than the existing live-action films.[28']

Fortunately, Zac Efron has not been confirmed on Wikipedia.

Death Note already has a Japanese-made live action Death Note movie. I guess it grossed good and the greedy American corporations wants a piece. Of course, however, they can't use the Japanese version and dub over it. That would very un-American. They have to use a crappy American-made plot, written by writers who had never in their lives ever heard or touched a Death Note manga or anime. They have to use crappy Disney promoted whores to play the characters, who are infinitely more cool than them.

The only thing possibly good that could come out of an American-made Death Note live action is good special effects. God save us all if they go through with it.

Actually' date=' they're going to stay faithful to the manga.

Do you actually believe an American movie maker is going to stay faithful to the manga? The Japanese have trouble staying true to the manga! The Americans will certainly screw it beyond recognition. Just look what they did to the Dragonball Z live action movie!!!

Both do not resemble an anime character nor would they be good at acting as one.

My final judgement on Death Note: Death Note is not considered true otaku, but it is somewhat of a 'gateway' otaku anime. Watching or reading Death Note would often lead to watching/reading other animes more otaku.

wrong, there is still much more to be done on bleach, as it has yet to be shown in the muramasa/human zanpukuto arc here in america, even in online manga format.

Do not treat me as a god. There is only one true god: Haruhi Suzumiya kami-sama. -.-

Sure you can call me Otakun.

Let us discuss the status of Death Note: mainstream or otaku?

This. It aired on Adult Swim, but was pulled from the air as far as I know. I am not sure if they even have it On Demand anymore...
