You automatically joined as "Registered" when you sign up. If you get banned, you go into the banned group. As for the Moderator/Super Moderator groups, YCMaker or Falling Pizza will pick whomever they think will do a good job on the forum (Or that particular section that they appoint you for). The Former Moderator group consists of people that used to moderate the site, but don't anymore. And the Administrator group, which is just YCMaker (And Falling Pizza, at times).

I believe you are speaking of Clubs, to join one, just post asking if you can join, most clubs have a registration form you can fill out. If there are any requirements such as star level (2,3 etc.) then just post to raise your level.
