Ladies and gentlemen, it is my belief that our old friend Fenrir has been tipping us off the whole time, and after some searching on Wikipedia, I've come to a guess.

 

I believe...that the inspiration came from one boss...from one RPG...before the year 2000...

Well, anyway, Akbaa is the final boss from Arx Fatalis, and he's trying to possess the hero, Arx, probably through the form of a crimson mist.

Well, Oblivimon doesn't possess things, it uses their bodies as it's own after destroying whatever was in said body.

 

Now Lords & Ladies, I'll provide one last clue, but before I do, I would like to say that I know most of you are bound to get this wrong. There are a lot, I mean a lot of games on our earth to guess.

Very good Kuja, Oblivimon's design was from Giygas. Why, because giygas is F**KING awesome that's why. Want proof?
