Duel Academy. New Assignment for the Third Semester!!!

Yugi had all three Egyptian god cards and was actually serious.

They sucked' date=' despite being unbelievably broken.

Gx intro'd the Sacred Beasts (which can actually be used in a duel). Jaden was laid-back, but that was really fun about him

They sucked also.

5D's introduced new theme cards that didn't suck; which Extra Deck nowadays doesn't sport Stardust?

But the simple fact is that the first series has yugi.

Yusie fudo

Yugi motou.

Jaden Yuki.

Both GX and 5ds heroes last names all have something to do with yugi. Plus the Battle city Duel disks looked much better than the gx ones. And I had some good plots as well as some unforgetable characters such as seto kaiba and joey wheeler.

Who are they? Kidding.

Jaden is almost as unforgettable. He turned evil and (cliche'd as it is) fought the evil inside and broke free. All Yugi is (joke, somewhat serious) is some kid with multiple personality disorder...

Chazz Vs. Jaden? There is the fact that Kuriboh has a "brother" that is Epic at its Lv. 10 form... It killed Chazz's strongest beast with no effort. It could kill BEUD or B. Skull Dragon or even Dragon Master Knight (all 3200 ATK or higher)

here are the positives for each series as taken from the debate related posts:

yugioh:

-serious main character who is strong with ties to the ancient past and to an ancient legend

-simple cards were used in effective ways to overcome powerful creatures

-its the original. from this we can infer that its the only one actually related to kazuki takahashi's work, and is therefore what the series was supposed to be like

-the egyptian gods were in this series. the egyptian gods likely directly inspired all other "Super Powerful Monster Archetypes" that came after (sacred beasts/synchro dragons/earthbound immortals)

-long and suspenseful duels

-characters are widely considered to be more memorable

GX:

-more laid back (positive only if you like a more laid back story)

-main character used multiple types of decks that were not just the same deck revamped

-more friends/rivals

-monster spirits/real monsters effect the story

-usable "God Cards" in the form of the sacred beasts

5d's:

-the characters are more serious and are more active in their attempt to rescue others

-introduced synchros/tuners, riding duels/speed world

-has a group of duelist that all fight to save others, not just one and his friends

-more suspenseful again

-deeper backstories

and here are the negatives:

yugioh:

-too much general cheesy-ness (especially in the dub)

GX:

-many archetypes, but arguably only a few are effective in practice

-characters draw parallels to characters from the original

-too laid back/less suspense (though some people liked the attitude of this show, the general opinion is that it was worse)

-less suspense during duels as well (most only last an episode)

5d's:

-duels are "bigger" (thanks in part to the synchros/tuners) and have lost the simplicity of the duels in the original

-again, the characters are less original that the ones in the first series

though it is close, yugioh and yugioh 5d's have the most positive out of the three, but the fact that 5d's influenced the real life game more than both of the others combined goes a long way toward making it the winner. yugioh was created by kazuki takahashi directly in part, where the others were not, and had longer, more involving duels as well as shadow games in which the effects could be modified. in the other series it was just "loser loses his soul". 5d's has done a good job of returning to the more serious roots from which yugioh sprouted, and is more creative in many ways, but less creative in others. it is the fact that 5d's uses a team of main characters with (theoretically) equal powers that makes 5d's the winner today.

MVP for Team Yu-Gi-Oh! is ~Emo~ with seven distinct points of interest. MVP for Team GX is .:Lawliet:. with thirteen distinct points, and MVP for Team 5D's is 「tea.leaf」with seven.

all in all, it was a good debate, and it was a close one with no team really doing a worse job than any other. i'm a bit disappointed that only seven of ten members participated, but all i can do is hope that more of you join in next time.

now i'd like to ask everyone to tell up what team you were on, which show is your favorite, and if the debate affected your decision.
