Amethyst Phoenix
Final Fantasies VII, VIII, and XIIKH seriesFF Tactics (this is epic win)Chrono triggerXenogearsEDIT: Forgot to list WoW Davok is right, sort of. Technically every game involves you playing a role of some sort. The RPG game genre, however, is characterized by having your character(s) level up and develop as the game goes on (via a complex leveling system usually involving EXP, many stats, and gear). There's 2 categories: Turn-Based RPGS (like final fantasy) and Action RPGs (kingdom hearts)Turn based can also be split into traditional and strategy. Guest JoshIcy
Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age. Anyone who disagrees will be punished. Golden Sun was an awesome game.Definitely the best RPG series to hit the GBA. So I guess, since it can go head-to-head with ANY mainstream rpg...But Punish me, because I sincerely prefer FFVIII. The Slime Lord
My favorites are Mario RPG, Final Fantasies 4, 7, and 10, the first two generations of the Pokemon games (especially the first), Tales of Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia, and the original Paper Mario. Guest Supreme Gamesmaster
I believe that the concept of Role Playing Games is where you play the role of a character and control him going through a specific environment. If so' date=' FPS, TPS, other types of PS, and also the most common statistic based RPG (such as Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, etc) fit into this genre. Of course, I'm probably wrong and will be corrected immediately after this post. Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem and TWEWY.[/quote']The term RPG inherently implies statistic-based mechanics. All others are simply "video games", just as non-statistic-based RPGs are "role-plays".Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age. Anyone who disagrees will be punished. Umbra
I was obviously not counting D&D, which outclasses everything that could ever exist. Including IRL. But I have yet to find a plot that can stand up to the power of Golden Sun. From the very start - after a few compulsive minutes of Kradenspeak, damn the man - you get to see a floating eye, a chamber deep within a volcano, an eruption of said volcano while you are still in the chamber, the return of a dead character, and the solid epicness that is Saturos.
