QueenIsAGreatBand
Last Monday, a store in Sandviken, Sweden, introduced a new policy. Energy drinks are no longer allowed to be sold to people under the age of 18. The reason for this was that parents & teachers had reported that the children had been "speeded" and "totally stoned" during class. Ever since the first can of Red Bull hit the market there have been speculations wether or not energy drinks are sugar-induced drugs or good sources of energy, and the debate has started boiling up aggressively just recently. One of the biggest subjects have been over the use of caffein in the drinks, people against energy drinks say that drinking soft drinks such as Burn can make you get hooked, while those for energy drinks say that the amount of caffein is less than in a cup of coffee but still coffee can be bought by minors as well. Some countries has already gone through with this policy, but here's the question:Should minors have the rights to buy energy drinks? For every swedish person interested, here's 2 links (swedish only, sorry!):http://www.metro.se/2009/03/19/40597/18arsgrans-for-red-bull-i-butik/http://www.aftonbladet.se/kropphalsa/article4683063.ab
Akira
Bullcrap. High energy drinks only have adverse effects if you consume copious quantities. I've drank an entire litre bottle of Kick over the period of an afternoon on several occasions and all it does is liven me up and keep me awake! Akira
It is true that more sensitive people may be affected by energy drinks in different ways but if they don't have the intelligence to not drink the stuff then they're stupid and it's their own fault. Bloodrun
Energy Drinks put me to sleep. But I drink em' anyway. Wait, correction, the only energy drinks that have the slightest effect on me, is Java Monster. Everything else is like another Soda Source. OMGAKITTY
lol, go drink coffee then. But really, you shouldn't be taking any sort of strong stimulant. Things you learn while hyped up on caffeine are harder to recall unless you are in the same state when you are trying to recall it. Well, I guess you could chug a monster before a test, and then it would be ok...

Legend Zero
All energy drinks taste the same to me. :? Most store owners probably don't care as to weather a kid buys there "harmful" drinks. I bet you could go there and by one without them checking an ID.
Slash
The only kind of Energy drink I usually drink is AMP energy, and I live in the US. So this probably won't affect me....:?
Jericho
This is totally stupid. It's called a sugar/caffine rush. It is in no way comparable to the effects of any illegal drugs or any drugs illegal to underage peoples.
Blue Lightning
This would be cause of the idiots drinking it like water. Even if it doesnt act as a sugura induced drug, its still filled with crap.

Amethyst Phoenix
These only hurt you if you drink like 20 a day >_>What we've learned here: Parents and teachers enjoy finding random things to whine about, and that parents and teachers need to actually research something before they weave their web of bulls**t. Willieh
If tobacco products are illegal to sell to minors, then so should energy drinks. They both have the same short term effects. Vice versa.

Akira
13 year old girls can die from drinking monster. I know a 14 year old girl who drinks a ton of Red Bull pretty much every day and all it does is bounce her off the walls xD It really won't do you harm unless you're underdeveloped or just sensitive to the stuff. QueenIsAGreatBand
Wait. OP says its 1 store and it isn't even a law. Its a store's policy. Yes, but if one store stops selling it to kids, and if this is a big store in that town, then other stores will follow on as well. Two other stores have already taken action! I tell you, if all stores in Sweden catch on to this... things might get ugly. (°`_´°)
