The sun is setting over an urban landscape. Rats scurry about the back alleys and the sounds of the last few people rushing home from work can be heard. The street lights have just flickered to life. A slight breeze blows through an almost empty street, carrying some debris along the sidewalk. As a discarded peice of paper comes to rest against a sign post, the view pans up to two teenagers with their duel discs in the middle of a friendly duel. "I activate the Quickplay Spell Card, "Book of Moon!" Your monster is changed to face-down Defense Position, and that means you can't attack," said Nolan. (Ken's "Venom Cobra" is flipped face-down). Nolan Ken2600 3000 Ken replied, "Fine. I Set 2 cards face-down and end my turn." "Then it's my turn! Draw!" (Nolan smiles as he stares at his card). "It's been fun Ken, I admit. But now it's time to end this Duel! I activate the Trap Card, "Grim Bargain." As long as this card is on the field, when I draw outside of the Draw Phase, I can discard 1 card to increase my Life Points by 500, and with my other Spell Card, "Life Drain," still on the field, every time I gain Life Points, you lose half that amount. I activate "Jar of Greed" to draw 1 card and I discard "Fake Miracle" to gain 500 Life Points!" Nolan Ken3100 2750 "Now I discard "The Stern Mystic" to activate "Lightning Vortex." Say goodbye to your monsters! I then activate "Poison of the Old Man" and increase my Life Points by 1200." Nolan Ken4300 2150 "Here's the last card of the Duel! I discard my entire hand to the Graveyard to activate the card I drew during the Draw Phase, "Serial Spell," to duplicate the effect of "Poison of the Old Man," this time using it's secondary effect to decrease your Life Points by 800!" Nolan Ken4300 1350 "That's not the end, Nolan! I still have 1350 Life Points! Or did you forget how to do basic math? (Nolan laughs at Kens joke) "No, my friend. I am aware of the current Life Point standings. You forget, however, that I still haven't declared an attack this turn!" "That doesn't matter. I activate "Threatening Roar." You can't declare an attack this turn!" "Then I activate my own Trap, "Royal Decree!" The effects of all Trap cards, except "Royal Decree" are negated! Now! "Battlefield Saint!" Attack his Life Points directly! Purging Strike!" Nolan Ken5500 0 (Ken and Nolan shake hands.) "Wow, Nolan! I still remember when you couldn't beat me to save your own life! Now, it seems like the roles have reversed!" "Thanks, Ken. That means a lot coming from you. I still don't think I'm ready though." "For what, that tourney that Urian is hosting at the Academy? That's just a casual event!" "But I wont be able to pay for my mother's surgery if I don't win the prize money. Not to mention that most of the other entrants are graduates from the Academy. The only training I have is what I've learned from you." "Try not to worry about that. If you do, you wont be able to concentrate on your dueling, and you'll lose for sure! Just try to have fun. That's what your mom would want for you anyway. Besides, even if you don't win, there are other ways to earn the money." "Alright, I'll try. I guess I'd better go. I need to go visit my mom and then rest up so I can be ready to continue my training tomorrow." "Okay." (Ken hesitates for a moment before continuing) "Well, take this with you. (Ken hands Nolan a small golden-colored box.). I think you may find it useful." "What is this?" "Just a few cards I came across. I think that they'll suit your Deck quite nicely." (Nolan thumbs through a few of the 20 or so cards) "Oh wow, Ken! Thanks! These cards are awesome! I can't wait to get home so I can work these into my Deck! Im sure I'll blow 'em away now!" "No problem. Just remember to keep calm and stay focused. Oh and most importantly, have fun!" (Nolan Looks over his shoulder as he runs off toward the local hospital) "I will! Thanks again Ken!" As Ken heads off in the opposite direction, he walks around a corner and is confronted by several hooded figures. "Did you do it?," asked one of the hooded figures. "Yes, I did," said Ken. "But I really don't think that it was necesary at this point. He's really an exceptional duelist." "Perhaps, but you know as well as I do what the prophecy says. Do you dare question the Order now? After all that you've seen and experienced?" "No. Certainly not. I'm just concerned that he may not be ready to unlock all that is in store just yet. I think maybe we should have waited until he needed the power. I don't want it to overwhelm him." "The prophecy says that the true destiny of the Dawn Bringer will not be revealed until some time after he learns of the power of those cards. Our time is limited, my friend. Do you not realize this?" "Yes, I suppose you're right. I've just grown attached to the boy, I guess." "That's understandable. You've been watching over him for 10 years now. I must remind you, though, that you cannot let your personal feelings override your duties." "You're right. I must be leaving now. We can't afford to raise suspiscion by meeting like this." "Very well. We will meet again soon." "Indeed, we will," said Ken as he continued on his way. THE NEXT DAY... Nolan sits up in bed and yawns. As he looks at his alarm clock, he suddenly flashes a double-take) Oh-no! I'm late! (In an instant, Nolan dashes through his small 1 bedroom appartment, throwing on clothes and swallowing a sandwich in a single bite as he rushes out the door. "It took you long enough, Nolan" shouted Sanuki. "Huff...Huff...sorry..." said Nolan as he tried to catch his breath. "Don't apologize! Show me that you were worth waiting for!" "Right. Let's start our training right now! I can't wait to test out these new cards!" Nolan and Sakuni exlaim simultaneously, "Duel!" Nolan Sanuki4000 4000 "I go first!" said Sanuki. "Draw! I Summon Quilbolt Hedgehog in Defense Position and Set 1 card face-down! That ends my turn!" "Fine! It's my turn! I Summon "M.Spirit - Glow" in Defense Position! Then I send your face-down card to the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 "Miracle Token" to my side of the field in Defense Position. I Set 1 card face-down and end my turn! Get ready to lose, Sanuki! My victory is almost certain!" "Dont be so sure! You may have new cards, but the question is, do you have the skill to win with them? Draw! (Sanuki smiles as the view zooms out a bit and you see the silhouets of the two duelests in the morning sun) This should be interesting..." More to come! Aelsthla-Mental
Hey, I like this fanfic... Not script format for a start. Although the brackets with (Nolan laughs at Kens joke) and the others may be unnecessary. Although there is a slight thing you may want to alter. "Venom Cobra was switched to defense mode (Book of Moon) to prevent a direct attack. Seems a silly move to do on a monster with 100 attack, but the main thing is that it DID attack when we later hear that a 2100 attack monster is out. Perhaps you forgot to tell us something? Was the field empty? Did the cobra have equips? Am i thinking of the wrong card? But anyway, it's looking good, and i'll keep an eye on this fanfic. Good luck! Radiant F.U.R.Y.™
It looks like I made a couple of errors concerning card effects and such...I dont intend to change the errors at this point however. Also, if you are wondering about cards being mentioned that arent in the deck list, this is because the decks are dynamic(meaning they update as the story progresses.) Nolan's deck list is reflective of where it stands at the end of the current chapter. I look forward to posting more chapters in the future.Oh, and you should check the first post for future chapters/characters.
